Rating: Summary: The greatest game! Review: This is a good good game. You can almost go in any car or tank you see. Great selection of guns and it has really good grapics.
Rating: Summary: Great Game Review: This is one of the best games ever! It is amazingly realistic. If you are shot in the chest or head good-bye. Leg: limp or have to crawl. Arm: lets just say it's going to take a few shots to bring a guy down. The enemy AI is great also. They throw grenades, target officers not grunts, and have very keen eyes. The single player missions are incredible! My favorite is when you land on the beach and have to capture a airport. It's ... hard, but very fun. Anyone who likes FPS should buy this game!
Rating: Summary: THE GAME Review: Operation Flashpoint is the best game I've played. You start as a private and you go through the ranks. It is not a first person shooter, you can drive, be a gunner or comander of tanks and helicopters, planes also. It features chopers like UH-60, Black Hawk, the russian famous HIND and other attack fighters as the SU-27 and the A10. The first time when yu play the game, it seems imposible, you get shot from everywhere and you do not know who is who. When you get the hang of it it starts to become thrilling and the perfect game. You also get to be grenadiers and machine gunners, snipers, mortar, engeenier(mines) and with the updates there are new tabks and weapons and aircraft. If you buy this game... you wont regret it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent and Well Published Software! Review: When I ordered Command and Conquer Renegade from Best-Buy,I found out that it would not run on my computer.I cancelled my order and bought Operation Flashpoint:Cold War Crisis.I have to be brutally honest with you, because there is no game that I know of that lets you assault enemy bases with platoons of infantry, with tanks, jeeps, helicopters, and MANY more armored vehicles backing you up. The game puts you in first or third person view of Corporal, Dave Armstrong. There are some levels where you have the option to play as Russian Spetz Natz officers, but only three or four. This game truly shows you what war is really like, and that it is not easy fighting a war-especially in enemy territory. So, what happens in this game? The object is to force back the Soviet Union from creating a possible World War III.It is basically about teamwork, and being able to cooperate with your fellow soldiers. The Graphics are so realistic, that even when you put them all the way down, they are amazing. The weapons at your disposal are so real-looking.When you run, the gun bobs up and down and left to right, and fires wildly when in motion. Sound,hmmmmmmmm...Sound, I would have to say is OK, but not the best. The AK74 sound different on single shot, than it does on burst and full auto. The PK machine gun sounds very strange, and it doesn't sound like any gun I know of! Gameplay...Ahem,drumrolls,please.'Pada Pada Pada Pada Pada'!Well, there's not much to say, but...Ahem...THE BEST OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!The Gameplay is the best, to tell you the truth.I pretty much described it in the first couple of paragraphs. If you would like to check out some of my other reviews, I did one for Tiberian Sun, and Hot Wheels Stunt Track Driver 2 Gettin' Dirty...
Rating: Summary: Hope you have an empty calendar... Review: First off, this is definitely NOT a game for everyone. If you are perfectly happy playing games wherein you can take thirty rounds in the chest, carry 82 different weapons at once, and mow down hordes of stupid enemies that can't shoot straight; then you will most likely not want to waste your money on this game. However, if you're looking for something that is different from your typical shooter, this is definitely the game for you. That said, what makes this game so special is the astounding realism. You are not a human tank, one round in the right spot and you're dead, if you're lucky you might take two rounds some where else. Also, if you are wounded then the wounds will have some sort of tangible effect instead of just lowering a health meter. If you take hits in both legs, you'll be forced to crawl everywhere, a hit in one or both arms and you will have a more difficult time aiming your weapon. Also, no 'strafing' or otherwise firing on the move here, you can do it, if you really want to do nothing other than give away your position and annoy the enemy, then go ahead and do it. Though you can sort of aim using an on-screen crosshair, it isn't very accurate (sort of a 'shoot from the hip' method, it would seem), you'll be much better off going to 'gunsight mode'. This is a mode that simulates looking through the sights of a weapon, your aim will be much better this way, just as with a real weapon. Finally, the AI, both friendly and hostile, is very good. Don't be surprised if the enemy drops you from 200 or more yards away without a scope (with a scope, they're apt to drop you from 500 or more yards away). Also, your squadmates are much more than Bullet Catchers in this game, they know how to use their weapons just as effectively as the enemy AI and they are not stupid. They don't moronically run around in the middle of a firefight, rather, they go prone and try to get to cover. When they fight you'll see them using good tactics, they'll fire and then move to avoid having their position pinpointed. One will give suppressing fire while another advances, then the one that just advanced will cover his buddy. They'll also use the right weapons on the right targets, if there is an enemy APC or tank, they'll put their M-16 away and attack with their LAW launcher, if they have no anti-tank weapon, they'll sensibly try to avoid the armored vehicle. It is a very good thing that your squadmates are effective as you will need them. There is no room for Rambos in this game, this is especially emphasized when you get to command your own squad. It is a truly awesome experience to see your team function like a well oiled machine because of your commands, and the successful elimination of a skilled enemy force through teamwork is a far more fulfilling experience than is mowing down hordes of moronic foes by yourself. There are literally hundreds of other little details. From shadows on everything that lengthen as the sun sets, to having to factor in drop when firing on something far away, the terror as a tank's squeaking treads trundle past within feet of the bushes you are hiding in, or the fright of being under fire from a long distance when the bullets arrive just a little ahead of the sound of the gun (as in reality) and the rush you get as you try to spot the distant enemy. That said, the game is not without its flaws. To start with, you'll definitely want to patch it before playing in order to fix a number of niggling little bugs. Also, the graphics are not very good (though the quality of the game is more important than eye candy IMO). The sound of weapons fire and most other effects is pretty good, but the voice overs and voice acting can be annoying and cheesy. While the premise of the story sounds good (a conflict between NATO and the Soviet Union on three islands in 1985), its really not that impressive. Rather than the conflict actually being instigated by either government, it instead has been instigated by a rather insane Soviet general that, for reasons unknown and never really much elaborated upon, wants to start a war. The 'mad general gets large force and starts war because he wants to or something' theme is pretty lame IMO, I would have found something that had more depth to be more satisfying (something perhaps like the reasons behind the ficticious conflict in Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising). However, its not completely bad, some of the characters are rather engaging and the missions from their perspective tend to make you actually care about them. Also, some of the battles require some pretty serious horsepower to run (one of the newest upgrade packages included a single mission battle recommended only for 1ghz or above computers!). It runs fantastic on my Duron 750 with 128mb RAM and 32mb 3d card. Finally, while I have gone on at great length about its realism, that is entirely from the infantry man perspective. There are parts wherein you command a tank or fly a helicoptor and, while these are quite fun, they are certainly not realistic. Though you can play from a 'pilot' perspective wherein the equipment and surroundings within the vehicle are quite realistic seeming, these sequences are best played from a third person viewpoint that gives it more of an arcade feel. Still, these sequences are a nice addition to the game. All in all, the game is an excellent tactical shooter that emphasizes quick thinking and executing of that thought over spastic reflexes. Plus, you get a neat and fairly easy to learn mission editor so you can make your own scenarios. Definitely the best [money] I have ever spent on a game.
Rating: Summary: Medic! Review: Get ready, they're coming! I had to expand my catalog of cuss words after playing this clunker. Be prepared for much weeping, knashing of teeth, and learning the art of wrapping your own wounds. Very realistic gameplay is this shooter's strong point; almost a testomonial against modern warefare as few get out alive and winning is an alien concept. Remind self to never buy game with only one save port! That's my biggest grievance. Shopping for cheats, I eventually found some and now at least have a running chance at finishing the campaign games which are very good....Give my cheats or give me...well, you know. Several of the missions are great fun--until a machine gunner shows up! The AI is good, trust me--it doesn't forget faces and really gets upset when beaten! The designers evidently had several personality issues! Ever see Drowning Mona? After returning to this off and on for two months, I've learned to accept it on its own terms and even beaten it a few times. In Sniper I commandered a tank and took out most of the enemy base; boy, did that feel good! Then a RPG soldier blew me to kingdom come....like I said, the AI is a bitter, vindictive foe.
Rating: Summary: Awsome Realism First Person Shooter Review: I can't believe even the stars in the night sky are accurate. You can navigate by them at night! Small things like church clocks are accurate to game time. So many vehicles to drive, and people just keep modding more! By far the best First Person Realism Shooter, I've played. The graphics could be better and the movements could be more natural, but they've more than made up for that in the huge maps and dynamic gameplay. WOW!!!! A word of caution... If you don't like realism, don't expect this game to be an arcade type "run&gun" game. You won't find health packs lying around the field for no apparent reason. And if a Soviet sniper puts a 7.62 in your skull, or 1 dead center of the chest, it's all over. The vehicle guages and speedometers even work. See an explosion 200 Meters away, the sound will follow after it has time to reach you... This goes far beyond the accuracy I ever expected. Codemasters, and your design team deserve many awards and recognition for such a well produced underdog of a game.
Rating: Summary: PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BUYING THIS GAME! Review: Reasons to buy this game. 1. If you like a game that is FULL of bugs, such as graphics disapearing, men walking through walls, game locking up. Reasons not to buy this game. 1. If you like 1st persons shooters, this game is the WORST one that I have ever played. 2. The controls are HORRIBLE. The mouse moves very jerky in this game. The reason I bought this game was because of all the good reviews I read on this site. This makes me think that the makers of the game were the ones writing the reviews. I wasted 40 dollars on this game, and I can not even play it (because it is so buggy). I have a nice system Athlon 1600, 512 MB Ram, 64 Radeon card, so I know that the problem is not my machine. I am writing this so that I can save someone the frustration of spending good money on a worthless coaster.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding...but make sure to get the patches Review: Pros: Fantastic gameplay Excellent AI Very Realistic Intriguing story All-around addicting Cons: Needs the patches to play decently! Blocky graphics Mediocre sound and voice acting Cheezy music ...but the pros vastly outweigh the cons... This is a simulation, not an arcade game. It needs to be treated as such. It is very ambituous. It is very, very fun. Highly recommended....this is one of the treasures of 2001 games business.
Rating: Summary: Games may come, games may go ... Review: But this game will last forever. I purchased this game shortly after its release, as of this writing I've had it five months and still play it more than any other title. Ghost Recon may have better graphics, but that's all it's got on OFP. The gameplay is truly astonishing. The single player missions are difficult, yet playable, and cover a wide gamut of objectives. You may fly in to destroy a convoy via an Apache Longbow, or sneak into a camp alone, at night, to steal a car, grab documents, or drop some C4 on a fuel depot in the middle of a guarded village. You may have to take command of a squad of M1A1 Abrams tanks, or simply drive the CO around the base for an afternoon cigar. After you've exhausted the single player missions, there's still plenty to do with multiplayer games, which are loads of fun. Then there's creating your own missions with the mission editor. This is perhaps where I spend much of my time. A truly amazing masterpiece of entertainment. I've played newer games which are similar in style, but nothing yet has been able to lay a finger on Flashpoint for pure playability.
