Summary: Pretty good, but not quite CS good!
Review: This game is good, but not as good as Counter-Strike. The graphics are good, as is the sound. The difficulty is BAD, the enemy is very smart, hidding everywhere! That is what makes the game realistics though. Single player is fun, multiplayer sucks for now, few rooms and poor players await you in cyberspace. All in all, a good but not great game.

Summary: War made great
Review: When judging something, one must and can only compare it to what one already knows. OpFlash it the latest in a growing sub genre of realistic military shooter/stratigy games. Spec-Ops invented it and Rainbow Six made it popular. What OpFlash brings to the table is the first real game that simulates war. The small cramped corridors of R6 are gone. Replace by rolling hills and lush forests. The forests are indeed interesting, you could walk past an enemy and never know it. And the wide open spaces mean you can be killed at almost any moment. R6 made action intense with the threat of behind every door death awaits. OpFlash gives you that threat at every moment as you walk along, not knowing if that is a bush or a sniper on the hill. It makes for a much more interesting game, and removes the commando mentality. I spent half the fight just hoping the AI would kill each other off. That said, the AI lacks real tactics. While this game is full of realistic combat, realistic strategy need not apply. Forces will run head first in the open for all to see in to a position ware the enemy is well protected. While I might have a machine gunner or a medic, what is the point if he just runs in and gets killed fast? Shouldn't those types be holding back to support the others? While the AI knows how to shoot and toss grenades it doesn't know much else.
Also all the vehicles are drivable. It was a blast to fly the attack choppers. Great fun. Most of the ground vehicles are not so impressive, but hard to beat an empty Jeep when you need one. This adds a significant advantage to who ever controls even the lightest tank. As well as adds to the realism as you are dropped off, transported and picked up by vehicles. Seeing troops jog over bush to a hovering Black Hawk seems like a scene right out of a war documentary. The theme of OpFlash is interesting. It is set in 1985. This means that while automatic weapons are common, high power automatic assault rifles with IR sniper scopes and silencers are not. It is modern, but not high-tech, old but not ancient. The enemy is armed with much the same things you are, you don't have to worry about laser guided automatic grenade launchers.
That said, much of the combat is at range, when the targets you are told to attack are at 500 feet, you do kinda wish for a IR sniper scope. Sadly you must make due with what ever rifle you are given. At least you can pick up a different one from fallen friends and foes. The combat is so frantic, learn to hug the ground when rounds start popping, it can be upsetting that it is not more forgiving. If I fail I must start back ware my last save, or retry, point was. Also you are allowed only one save per mission. So if you get killed by a enemy tank four hundred feet away that you can't destroy, is that fun? No. Is it real? Yes. Times like that I wish that was wasn't as much focus on realism and more on plain fun.
Other than that, OpFlash is an enjoyable and impressive game to behold. With plenty of good ideas and options to keep the player on edge and entertained.

Summary: Great Concept , but Unrealistic shooting in several missions
Review: OK. Cool Concept, however its unreal when enemies troops kill you from the distance of approx. 700ft or more unless they snipers. First, of all they cant even see you, especially at night at that distance and when you on the ground. Keep in mind I am not talking about helicopters, tanks and bmp just troops. If it was that easy any war would end up very soon. An addition, make sure you have a decent NVidia card to enjoy.
Overall game is just ok. So far the list of games that are more real are Delta Force Land Warrior, Hidden and Dangerous (wait for H&D 2), Project IGI by Eidos(unfortunately there is no save option) and Rogue Spear.

Summary: Great game, but needs work.
Review: Ok, where to start.. I only gave this game 2 stars instead of 5 because it is much like a beta version. The game, although awesome, really pisses me off. Europe has only v1.0 and v1.1 so good luck trying to play with anyone from over there. I havent played the game that much other than the multiplayer aspect of it. I guess that I was looking for a WWII online type of game, and got it to some extent. The multiplayer is poor, but it works sometimes. I have a P3 1ghz, 256 ram and a 2mbit cable connection. The game lags for me when in any vechile other than a small car. If they keep working on this game, and give us a couple of patches..I think that this game will be worthy of 5 Stars.

Review: this is the best war game ever. the graphics are the best.

Summary: The sheer scope of this game is unbelievable.
Review: This game will come the defacto standard in combat simulators for years to come. The only thing that comes close in realism is the free U.T. Mod Infiltration (five stars also), but INF can't scratch the scope of what has been accomplished here with maps and vehicles.

You'll need a fast computer and some tweaking to enjoy it, but if you got the horsepower be prepared for some of the most intense action ever seen. The Quake style of maps has been thrown out the window, your now in a lush world where everything is scale including buildings, aircraft, anti-aircraft, lakes, oceans and vehicles. The town you need to get to is 1.5 km away, hop in the jeep and drive there via driving simulator! Not in the mood to drive? Try your hand at piloting the A-10 or Apache that's over at the landing strip. Perform strafing runs on enemy convoys. Don't worry about getting shot down, just hit the eject button to realistically parachute to earth where you can continue your assault.

Ground combat takes a while to get the hand of, they broke the arcade mold and went for realism. Don't expect to survive long if your used to Quake styles of fighting. You have to run, crouch and crawl like it's the real thing. The bots are not dummies, they're hiding in the bushes waiting to pick you off.

This is the closest thing to virtual reality ever. If you wanted to see what future game design would bring us, you don't have to wait any longer. If you got the horsepower, get Operation Flashpoint.

Summary: U.S. customer isn't too satisfied
Review: I'm not much for writing negative review, but I had to put in my two cents for this one. The concept of this game is great as far as being able to interact with many of the vehicles, etc., but the product is far less than what you would expect from a first person shooter when comparing it with other titles such as Rainbow Six - Rogue Spear - No One Lives Forever (the best in my opinion). The movement in the first person perspective is choppy and the default controls are not the greatest. The ability to alter the keyboard/mouse controls is very confusing.
The graphics are not as good as what I have been used to seeing in FPS games in this day and age of realism. The verbal acting is also lacking to an extreme. If you are looking for a game to just go in and shoot-em-up, then this game is not for you. You will get killed very quickly. Very frustrating when you are trying to get rid of frustration.
If you are one who likes squad based FPS, then I would stick to games such as Rogue Spear, Rainbow Six, or even the very first Delta Force. All three of these games far excede this one in my opinion, even though they are somewhat dated by now. I pre-orded this game for its release in the U.S. thinking it was going to be great because of all the wonderful reviews it was getting from other "international" customers. I was wrong. Bottom line...Save your money and hold out for something better.

Summary: Overblown
Review: I wanted to like this game. I haven't had much fun in the FPS arena since Doom, so I was ready to have some. First, I like the modeled fatigue, the engagement ranges, and the terrain in general. What I didn't like are the figures, they look horrible up close!, I didn't like the radar homing tanks and APC's that zero in on your location after one shot from 400 yards, on the tactical slope, under bushes. Secondly, I couldn't quite figure out what the squad leader was yelling, and who is #2, etc. But the two biggest dissapointments are:

Multiplayer, one of the reasons I bought it, seems to be in a beta form still. So many features don't function, and joining, hosting and starting a game is problematic.

Control Layout, I hate freakin' mouses! and that's pretty much it unless you want to try and monkey about with the bleedin' keyboard. The control set up menu lists joystick, but it doesn't seem to work beyond the hat switch changing views. Geez, would it be too much to include joystick support? That way, I could program the stick/throttle/rudder set up so I wouldn't have to be typing like crazy on the keyboard at the same time I'm swiping around the mouse/trackball/thumbwheel.

Anyway, it does seem to have some depth, but the enemy AI, never fails to notice you, even 200 meters away, low-crawling through dense undergrowth. I give it three, behind the four stars I gave CFS2, that missed for the poor AI and multiplayer options.

Summary: Potential Unrealized
Review: I found this game to be something of a disappointment. For one thing, take the 'recommended' requirements very seriously (PIII, 128 M RAM, 3d card with 16 M). My machine exceeded the 'minimum' requirements but I experienced many problems with the graphics. It was difficult for me to resolve distant targets (which apparently could see me clearly), resulting in my death in under 1 or 2 minutes into the mission. Another irritation was that I couldn't ever sneak up on anybody because the AI fools in my squad would start shooting and yelling and throwing grenades the instant they saw an enemy (200 meters sometimes). We would then be picked off from great distances one by one, by small blips on the horizon. It reminded me of Delta Force, which I think sucks for this reason. (I tried using the menu commands to tell the squad to proceed quietly, but those options were always grayed out.) Some of the maps seemed impossibly difficult. The insertion point would be really far from the target, so I would sneak through the forest for 10 boring minutes, then peep out of the bushes at the enemy town, and pop! Game over. I know that some of this is the game's attempt at realism, but there is a balance between realism and playability that I think Bohemia Interactive missed. There aren't many single player missions, and several were of the 'go here, rendezvous with this squad, steal this car, then refuel', etc. variety. Why would I want to do any of this? Did I buy this game because I wanted to sneak around the Soviet countryside and pilfer vehicles? Finally, why is there only save point per game? I have plenty more to complain about but I'm out of time (and space).

Summary: Open-ended game design!
Review: Oh, this is a great game! The game it reminds me of most is Delta Force: Land Warrior, only with a much better A.I. and the ability to drive vehicles in your missions. My favorite part of Operation Flashpoint though has to be the great A.I. I spent four hours trying to get past the first mission, and never got frustrated doing so. You can get killed easily by being shot only once or twice, which means you will not be running and gunning. You will have to sneak and snipe, lying prone and crawling a lot through bushes and against buildings. You will use all cover available, both man-made and natural. Your enemies are also easy to kill, when you can find them. They are pretty sneaky too and will drop for cover when they spot you. Every time I got killed, I started over and adjusted my plans and tried the mission from a different angle. This game will make you think and be very careful. The tension is unbelievable! And knowing how mortal you are will make you jump out of your skin every time you hear a gunshot. Especially if it's been quiet for a while.

I gave this game five stars, even though it's not perfect, because it has achieved a lot that other five-star games have not been able to. It's the overall sense of being there that got me. The developers used their own custom engine for this, which is both good and bad. On the good side, it renders vast distances and hills like other engines could not, and, being a 'different' engine means it's unpredictable. After playing tons of Quake and Unreal-based games, a person knows the limitations of those engines and what to expect from them. It's nice playing something that feels new, even though it doesn't really look new. The graphics, while good, look sort of dated and the control is just shy of being perfect, but you have to admire the developers for not going the easy road and just licensing someone else's engine. They had specific goals when they built this game, and you can tell they did their damndest to achieve these goals. And in my opinion, they were successful.

I haven't had this much fun playing a game in a long time. Oh, and for reference, I'm running it on a two-year-old Pentium II 450 with 256 megs ram, and an NVidia TNT 1 video card with 16 megs video memory, and it runs pretty smooth at 800 x 600 resolution. The video options and resolution can be adjusted up or down to suit just about anybody though. So if you are tired of frag-fests and running and gunning and if you want a battle experience that feels real, Operation Flashpoint is the only way to go.
