Summary: Excellent Game
Review: Very good game. Enjoyable. Can be played on non graphics card enable PCs but very slowly with alot of ram. It would be slugish on missions with nebulas. Computers with Graphics card, will will be very good. On my cheap ATI Xpert 128 32mb card, it ran very well except for slugish controls and stretching ships when engaging warp drive.I liked the graphics and playability. It's cross between Armada and Starfleet Command. They could have added more ship controls like in Starfleet Command though. It is worth the money.

Summary: GREAT GAME --- lousy support/introduction
Review: well, first of all you gotta know that i really LIKE this game. I installed it on my machine, and didn't have any crashes... but thats on a high-end system on the latest version 1.03. The graphics are great, missions and level design are okay, sounds are great, and it has a lot of depth. I actually feel to be in the battles, much more as in ST:ARMADA. Now, I would give it 5 stars. But i have to substract 1 for the missing manual. try to figure out how the thing works without one. Every damned $5.99 game has one, and a complex strategic sim is lackin a simple manual??? OH, C'mon! another star goes for the (As far as i know) missing LAN multiplayer and Skimish mode. When you're done with the single player campaign, your only option is to play over the internet - and that sucks! It is a GREAT game, and with a bit more work it would rock. but that way it's just another startrek disappointment - at least talkin about serious LACKS in multiplayer and support. By it at your own risk.

Summary: Dominion Wars is good, but not top-notch
Review: Well, I've played through this game for about a day now. I can honestly say I find a lot I like. The graphics are, for the most part, very lush and pretty. The battles are downright cool in some parts. The game has an overall feel much like that of the Starfleet Command series, minus a lot of the complexity.

However, like the Starfleet Command series, it's sad that the game suffers from a lot of bugginess issues. I've had repeated problems loading saved games. Dominion Wars also crashes randomly at some points. The music sometimes doesn't play for no apparent reason. Judging from the release date for this title (which was pushed back numerous times), I fear they didn't really polish up the game as much as they could have. Instead they went for the easy route and rushed development to get the game out. Also, this game has absolutely no instruction booklet to speak of. Similarly, the in-game tutorial is sadly lacking seen as how there is no interaction, just a bunch of static screens with a woman narrating what to do. So at first, you're gonna be on your own as far as learning the game goes.

It would also have been nice if there were more differentiation between the Dominion and Federation sides. As it is, the rank names, music, computer voice, and basic interface are the same for both sides. It would be very, very nice if you could name ships, too.

Don't get me wrong - this is a good game, and one I'll play once some patches come out for it. But it's not what it could have been, and that's kind of disappointing.

Summary: Could have been so much better.
Review: With only a few exceptions, the Star Trek License has been a breeding ground for mediocre to very poor video games. Dominion Wars is not one of these exceptions.

The bundling of Star Trek: Starship Creator Warp 2 is a nice addition but it doesn't make up for the games flaws. The only strength that Dominion Wars has is its graphics. The graphics in the game are definitely some of the best I have ever seen. The ship models and lighting effects are so good, I thought I was watching the show at some points. From there the game starts to go down hill. The sound is good at best. CD quality music but lack luster voice acting. The plot isn't to engaging, the title of the game tells you what the plot is even before you open the box. "Game play" is where the game really starts to falter. There is no real strategy to the game. It has basically two types of missions; destroy every enemy ship on the map or protect "this" from "that".

The game is unbelievable when compared to the TV show. In the last mission of the Federation/Klingon Alliance missions you have to assault and capture Cardassia Prime. You get a total of 8 warships and 5 troop transports. 6 Galaxy class (ships actually commanded by you), 1 Romulan Warbird, 1 Klingon Vor'cha, 2 Klingon Transports, and 3 Federation Tranports. Cardasia defense fleet: 12-15 Cardassian/Dominion/Breen ships, 10-12 weapons platforms, and 4 shield generators. Seems a bit one-sided doesn't it. And yet, you win.

The real problem with Dominion Wars is it's not a true 3D RTS. Had the game designers given us more ships and a true 3D environment to move around in, this game would have been one of, if not the best, Star Trek game out there. It may have been able to go toe to toe with Homeworld. Maybe that is why Simon & Schuster didn't do it. They were afraid of the comparison to Homeworld.
