Summary: Note to game creators.....3 WAYS TO PISS OFF FANS
Review: #1. CHEATING YOUR FANS

As you can plainly see, Unreal 2 has nothing to do with Unreal 1. Did they just need the royalties or what?! Let's look at a previous example that attempted to toss a sharp elbow in the stomach's of fans everywhere: Check out Deus ex 1 and 2. The fans were furious; they were lured into a poor imitation of Deus ex's former self. The only people who played Deus ex 2 were the people who had previously played Deus ex 1.....which leads me to my main point....if your going to hand out a different game that does not resemble your first game - you must change the title OR the fans will have to suffer through your shoddy second attempt at cash-flow - and review your game poorly.

#2. LEVEL DESIGN..PLEASE!

The creators of Unreal 2 tried a different approach in this game. For the first two levels it worked great. Then the level design got repetitive.....ironically, the exact opposite of what Unreal 1 had to offer. This is what the fans wanted, along with just the slightest, the smallest, most insincere of efforts to mince a story together - but the creators could not pull this task off.

#3. ENEMY MUST CONFORM WITH BACKGROUND

If you look past the fact that this is not related to Unreal and that the level design is a little uninspired - this still would have made a good "scare" tactic game like Doom 3; the AI is good and so are the guns - in fact, I actually had fun fighting Skaar and the other enemies. Unfortunately, the one thing that seems to remain the same with Unreal 2 is the character animation. The enemies seem all to cartoonish and UNREAL against the background of fantastically rendered scenes. You don't plug in the same animations of Doom 2 with Doom 3 and expect good results, do you? Take a look at the "spiders" in the HELL level on Unreal 2 - pathetic.

Thanks creators, you taught me an important lesson - RESEARCH. Good luck selling Unreal 3...this time I'll check the reviews before you get off so easily.

Summary: Downgrade ...
Review: Unreal 2 is definitely a downgrade from the original Unreal.
Besides the great scenery, great graphics and game engine there isn't much to this game. The storyline lacks depth and it fails to immerse the player. If you see this title in the bargain bin then maybe you should pick it up. Otherwise I wouldn't pay the money for it. There's a lot of other great single player fps titles out there. Unreal 2 definitely is not worth to be the successor of the Unreal franchise.
Disappointing

Summary: Looks like a victim of snobbism
Review: The plus:
+ Nice areas (good textures, particle effects, lightning and shadowing, overall nice graphic engine).
+ Good sound and music.

The minus:

- I dislike the character design. It's too colorful, too synthetic, just not realistic. The monsters are anything but scaring.

- While playing I'm getting more and more annoyed by the intermission sequences: There's too much of them, I cannot switch them off, and I'm not willing to play the game again because I will see then all these clips again.

- Overall the game is too 'stiff': The storyline is not even slightly interactive, for example it's not possible to kill your team mates or to destroy things where I'd find that appropriate. Although the maps are beautiful I miss those exiting secret areas where you can go in just for fun. So here again, I'm extremely forced into the progress of the game.

As a result I can't get just a little into Unreal 2. Neighter I develop feelings towards Aida, Isaak or Neban (which is what should happen if Unreal2 was a good game), nor does the atmosphere of the game only slightly effect my mood.
Playing Unreal 2 I more and more get the impression that the developers of the game wanted to present an 'awesome' technology with all the graphic and sound bombast and all the weapon effects and so on. The result is that the games misses anything what makes an Ego-Shooter interesting: the excitement, the affection of your mood, the ability to draw you inside.
It's not half as good as the original Unreal, and it's honestly the most boring Ego-Shooter I've ever played.

Summary: Good not Great Fun but not estatic
Review: It is a really great game cinimatics and graphics wise, but the gameplay story really wasn't the greatest. I would'nt bomb it though. Buy definitly or borrow from a friend.

Summary: Unreally really bad
Review: I have to be honest... I never finished this game. It was horrible. In fact, I'll be bold enough to say it was one of the worst games I've ever seen and played. In a day and age where we have truly innovative shooters such as Halo and Half Life, why, tell me why would someone release this drivel? First of all, allow me to quash some of the statements that various folks made above: This game is NOT polished. The cookie cutter environments are bland in design and are chock full of those invisible barriers that plague so many FPS games. And the animation is awful; next time you play any game try blinking your eyes really fast while looking at the screen. That's what enemies look like when they move/attack/die in Unreal 2. I can't stop laughing at the guy above who said "Stop with the complex plots. People want simplicity!" Did you have a hard time following the story, buddy? Don't speak for me or anyone else. I don't want simplicity. I like to play games that don't talk down to me. In all seriousness, this is one of the most linear, watered down bargain basement action titles that I've ever subjected myself to. What happened to you Atari? I have a suggestion for your new slogan: "Atari. Games For Stupid People."

Summary: Horrible
Review: Let's make something clear.... I think everyone needs to know this, especially the people who make games like this: Games are not movies, and games are meant to be played moreso than they are watched. In this game, the emphasis is taken away from gameplay and put towards graphics, cinematics (which you HAVE to watch and you can't leave, and they're very long), and plot. I just bought this today..... I watched about an hour's worth of cinematics, I had to "search" for something (what is this, "Myst"?), and I never even got to play the game because it crashed, despite the fact that I have a brand new Dell. All I can say is, I was already fuming by the time. When it crashed I just took the CD out, bent it in half until it broke and then threw it in the trash along with the other crap that came with it. That's the problem with these new games, it's all about graphics and not the game itself.

Moral of the story: GAMES ARE NOT MOVIES! AND STOP WITH THE COMPLEX PLOTS! PEOPLE LIKE SIMPLICITY!

Summary: Don't be fooled by the name! This is a great game!
Review: I read some of what other people said about this game. But I think the problem comes with trying to live up to the high expectations of Unreal 1. That is really the only problem I found in this game is that it had nothing to do with the first Unreal. Maybe some of the names of people and planets, some of the "Monsters" had a little of the same look. But for the most part everything else is different. And really I think if this game came out with a different name, nobody would be the wiser. I think this game is probably closer to Halo then it is to Unreal. (I mean running around in some suit, with some lady voice help guiding you.)
But with this all said, I thought this game was super! The graphics is what I was surprised at! This was probably the first "new" game I had gotten in over a year. I couldn't believe how great they looked, the "earth views" and other planets was just spectacular! The Guns were very creative! The "bad guys" were also creative.
It did bother me that the game had to "load" ever little while, but it shows how big the game is. The game was also a little short.
But I think for the price it was well worth it! I also think with the new Multiplayer add on you can download would make the game even better!
Bottom line, if you are expecting an Unreal 2. Don't, it has nothing to do with it. But if you want a good first person Shooting game, with creative guns, and "bad guys" go a head and buy it!
I have also heard this is coming out on XBOX, and is suppose to be really good with multiplayer action! I think that would be worth while too.!
