Rating: Summary: good game sluggish performance Review: I am running a P-4 system with 512megs ram, radeon 9700 pro etc.. I find the game enjoyable to play and the graphics are very good. I get great fps until there are many npc's with alot of weapons discharges going on, then it goes downhill from there. The same performance hit happens with FSAA turned off. I think the game has memory leaks and that can be fixed with patches I believe. Atari was under pressure to release the game and may have cut a few corners.
Rating: Summary: Nothing like the orignal Review: It seems to be a trend in the video game world to make a game that has little or nothing to do with the original. Such is the case with Unreal 2. The original Unreal was an interesting game for a few reasons. In the course of the story you were dumped into an alien environment that was hostile and wondrous at the same time. Nothing was explained to you and you were left to your own devices to figure out the world. It was a story idea that works very well with first person shooters. Now quiet a few years later we are given Unreal 2. A game that has little or nothing to do with the original. One gets the impression that the developers decided to buy the rights to the name to push an otherwise boring game idea. Nothing original is done here. The story is boring and totally pointless. This is nothing new in the first person shooter gender but it seems pointless to keep doing things we have all seen before. So like all first person shooters before we look for the innovations. Something that sets the game above the rest of the pack. Playing the game I could not find it. The graphics are quiet nice but the level design only get interesting at the end of the game. Since this game is a true single player game it's over way too fast and the replay value is pretty much zero. It's sad to see a original game like Unreal turned into a game that will be totally forgotten in a very short time. It's a shame really because the game is NOT bad but just not as good as it could have been. A different story line, something closer to the original and less goofy.
Rating: Summary: Great Game for testing your machine Review: ...And that is exactly why I bought this overpriced shooter. It looks great and plays fine on my machine; but I have a high-powered mobo, a high-powered P4 processor and 1GB of RAM. People grumbling about this games performance should have read the requirements before purchasing it; they warn you that Unreal 2 is "optimized" for a P4 1Ghz processor. The "minimum" requirements are a joke! However, I did get the GPF when I enabled EAX sound - KA-BLOOEY!! - but I restarted Unreal 2 without re-booting my PC. In my opinion, this is just the prototype of games to come, just like the first Unreal game. I'll enjoy playing with this one until more engrossing Unreal 2-based games come out.
Rating: Summary: Unreal 2 Buy or Bust? Review: Unreal 2 has been long awaited by long time gamers since the oringinal. I own and beat this game twice already on medium difficulty and even now I plan on playing again on Hard. Unreal 2 has about 10-15 hours of gameplay. With about 23 missons including interludes where you learn information abotu your crew and your next misson. The story is based in the same universe as Unreal 1 but the similarites are limited, the Skaarj are back and well, that's it. But that still does not stop the the game from being great. The story concentaits around John Dultan Ex-marine who now partrols a sector of space with his 3 crew mates for the TCA(Terran Colonial Authority) the story progreses as you must find ancient artifacts that threaten the future of the galaxy. With a large variety of levels from frozen tundras to deserts and inside a living planet. The game is best when the last two levels come into play and you feel as if there purpose to your cause. If you've been waiting for Unreal 2, don't let anything stop you. But if your new, get all the info you can before buying.
Rating: Summary: The best game ever! Review: I don't know what to tell all these people complaining about molasses game play. This game was built with the intentions of sucking the juice right out of a hardcore gamer's top-of-the-line machine, and give people a decent reason to buy a machien like that, other than just impressing yourself over how fast windows loads up. This game is NOT for grandma' machines, and the producers did that on purpose. Taking a step forward, they are. Yes, the game is COSTLY on computer resources, but that's what makes it GREAT if you have them. After MUCH hoarding of money, I now have a Radeon 9700 PRO, 512 MB RAM, 2.0 GHz processor, 107 GB hard-drive. The game runs smoothly (not surprising) but best of all it has graphics that are UNGODLY and utilize all of that pent-up power for once! Everyone realises the new Doom will have the same requirements, if not higher, right? Technology is getting better... as games are taking advantage of that, you've got to get off your grandma's machine to use them, unfortunately.
Rating: Summary: Time to Upgrade Review: I've only played it for a few days so far. Glossy, polished, finished quality. So far, haven't encountered any bugs (except the ones you kill in the game). Typical storyline, with a few twists, but nothing yet that stands out as being "ground-breaking". It's probably one of the most visually stunning games out. I say probably because my computer (fastest thing going a year ago) doesn't have what it takes to run the game with all the eye candy enabled. Regardless of what it says on the box, you won't realize the game's full potential without a killer computer. P4 1.2 GHz or greater recommended? More like 2.4 GHz 384 MB RAM recommended? More like 512 MB GeForce 3 or Radeon 8500 recommended? Maybe, but should have at least 128 on-board RAM Check this one out... 3 Gig of hard drive space. My install currently uses 2.4 Gig when the game isn't running. Still... even with a bland game setup, the game runs and looks great.
Rating: Summary: Over Hyped Review: Over Hyped? I think so. The graphics are not that good, the frame rate is quite low. I've seen similar (and much older) games that have better visuals, Half Life is one for example. Even on my AMD 1800XP and nVidia GeForce 3 Ti500 Unreal II is barely playable. As for audio, the effects are okay, but the voice "acting" is very poor. I played the game for an hour or so and came away feeling that I've seen it all before, just done much better. No need for this one, wait for something better.
Rating: Summary: Fun Game Review: This game was fun to play. The first thing that you notice is the large maps look great, and the scenery is fantastic. Using the sniper rifle on the large maps was tons of fun. Never finished the last mission cause got bored of blowing up robots--started to remind me of Interplay's Descent game. Wish that it had more outdoor maps, but it was still a ton of fun.
Rating: Summary: An OK game but, not groundbreaking Review: I will make this fairly short. I liked the first Unreal alot. It was revolutionary for it's time with graphics not seen before... If you had the best hardware to turn everything up. Unreal had great lighting, creepy atmosphere, great view distance, and a multi-layer sky that moved very nicely. Many cool games have come out since with some great ones like 'Return To Castle Wolfenstein.' Now we have Unreal 2 and with the improvements in graphics these days, along with much faster Pc's and Video cards I was hoping for U2 to have the character of the first game. I just didn't see the same character in U2. The graphics are good but, compared to recent games like RTCW or even the latest Unreal Tournament, I didn't like how generic the game looked. Like I said, U1 was quite a step forward when it came out. U2 just seems plain in comparison. Gameplay is pretty good but, there are many other FPS games I enjoyed more. So U2 was OK but, I was a little disappointed
Rating: Summary: Great but short Review: Unreal II really brings back singleplayer to the FPS genre. The story isn't that impressive but works enough to make the game fun and dramatic. Also the characters are developed very well adding alot to Unreal II. The graphics and sound are fantastic, the only draw back with this game is that it's very short with no secret modes to unlock. And there is the lack of multiplayer, though that is handled in Unreal Tournament 2003
