Rating: Summary: Well. . . . Review: I bought this game under the assuption that it would be fun. Boy was I wrong. Although this is a mob game, don't buy it thinking that you get to shoot people all the time. You don't. You have to drive. don't get me wrong, driving is fun, but driving at 40 miles per hour on nearly every mission loses it's fun after a while. This game is also hard. Not hard as in difficult to find things and get through spots, but it's one of the most tedious games I have ever played. And believe me, I've played a lot. what's the point of having a gun if you hardly get to use it. You get to drive around a city larger that one in GTA 3 and it takes over twice as long to get around. On the chance that you get to use a weapon, watch out, it seems as tho the enemys' weapons are always twice as powerful than yours, and they have twice as many bullets is every clip. On the subject of clips, there aren't any, so you have to sit for about 20 seconds and watch your guy fiddle with his gun. In a car, it takes about 30+ seconds. The only reason I gave Mafia two stars is because it has outstanding graphics and a decent story line. The game has ideas, but they just get lost in a 30 minute, 40 mile per hour drive. P.S. Freeride(a GTA3 knock-off attempt in the game, one of many)[is bad]. It has no purpose and you can't find anything you want to find. It also contains all of the errors in the above review.
Rating: Summary: Great Single Player Game, but Little Replay Value Review: I absolutely loved the single player story and game. I didn't see much value in the Free Ride modes and Free Ride Extreme seemed like a weak attempt at making the game longer. It is a short but very very sweet game.
Rating: Summary: Very Laggy and Boring Review: If you don't have a newer computer this game will be terrible for you. Although it only requires 128 mb this game is extremely glitchy and laggy even if you have 256mb. I also found this game very boring and repetetive. The first part of the game is very boring, all you do is drive people around. This game also has terrible AI, if you almost run someone over they will jump back and then continue walking. Not like in GTA3 when they start running away. The cars are bad too, if you park in the middle of the street they will just stay there they won't go around. I have a Gateway ME and I tried playing this game and its just to glitchy and laggy which ruins the fun. However I'm sure its fun if you can afford a brand new computer with a great video card and 1000mb of ram.
Rating: Summary: too good to be true Review: it is one of the most thrilling and exiting game I have played. If you are fond of games like hitman, nolfo or GTA-3 you would surely love this one. THIS GAME WILL SURELY TO BLOW YOU OFF YOUR SEAT!!!!

MAFIA IS ABOUT THE CRIME UNDERWORLD OF THE 1930S-AND YOU PLAY A TAXI CABBIE NAMED TOMMY(MY FAVORITE CHARACTER)WHO JUST HAPPENED TO BE AROUND WHEN TWO MOBSTERS CRASH THIER CAR BECUASE THEIR BEING CHASED BY OTHER MOBSTERS AND HOLD THEIR GUN TO TOMMYS HEAD AND SAY-TAKE US TO THIS BAR-SO THEY GET TO THE BAR AND THE NEXT DAY TOMMY IS STILL A TAXI DRIVER-UNTIL ONE PASSENGER WANTS TO GO IN THE NEIGHBERHOOD WHERE THE BAR IS-THEN THE MOBSTERS WHO WERE CHASING TOMMY AND THE OTHER MOBSTERS THE OTHER NIGHT GET AHOLD OF TOMMY-BUT HE GETS AWAY THROUGH AN ALLEY(THIS LEVEL WAS TRICKY BECUASE MY SISTER COULDNT GET THROUGH-BUT THE NEXT DAY I DID!) AND THE BAR OWNER KILLS THE MEN WHO WERE CHASING TOMMY-AND INVITE HIM INTO THEIR FAMILY OF CRIME-NOW TOMMY GETS TO BLOW UP THOSE FANCY CARS-RUN MOBSTERS OVER-AND KILL PEOPLE-WHAT A GREAT GAME! I LIKE HOW ONE PART OF THE GAME SEEMS LIKE YOUR WATCHING A MOVIE- THEN THE LEVEL BEGINS-THE GRAPHICS ARE SO GREAT-AND THE SOUNDS ARE GREAT TOO-ITS LIKE YOU ACTUALLY ARE WATCHING A MOVIE OR TV-AND WHEN A MAN GETS SHOT-MAN DOES THE BLOOD FLY OR WHAT! HOW BADLY I WANT THIS GAME FOR MYSELF-ITS THAT GREAT! SINCE I LOVE THE 30S-THE CARS AND THE MUSIC OF BACK THEN-AND MOBSTERS ARE REALLY COOL TOO! Rating: Summary: TEDIOUS Review: When a video game stops being entertaining, and becomes tedious its no longer any good. This is the case with Mafia. Sure it has the graphics of Max Payne, with the feel of GTA3 and a great story line, however its just about as fun as a tax audit. Mafia fails to deliver in every category exept the feeling of absolute displeasure at having to constantly repeat the same mundain task over and over and over and over again. Boring. A perfect example of this is the racing sequence, at the track early in the game. I assure you, this part of the game will leave you pulling your hair out in disgust. This game could have been great, sadly it comes up way short.
Rating: Summary: nothing personal Review: this is a great game. you have a choice of two different modes to play in: story mode, which is the main game, and Free Ride mode, which is basically GTA3 in the 1930s. this is a good idea, as it allows you to play around in Free Ride mode without messing up what you've done in the main game. you can even save your progress in Free Ride and come back to it at any time. also, as you progress in the main game, new cars and features are unlocked in Free Ride. and when you've completed the main story game, you can play Free Ride Extreme, which allows you to unlock even more cars and features in Free Ride mode. all this adds up to many hours of gameplay, and lots of fun. i may be in the minority here, but i think that driving is one of the best features of this game. the cars are very detailed, and the physics are meticulous. i'd imagine that the sluggishness of some (repeat.. SOME) of the vehicles is probably fairly true to form, as the cars of the 30s weren't quite built like they are today. in any case, the cars and the driving are one of the main things that adds the unique atmosphere that this game has so much of. finally, regardless of what the amazon editorial reviewer said, there is NO multiplayer of any kind. i read somewhere that it may be added in a future patch, but if MP was a major selling point for you, you may want to reconsider. on second thought, you should buy it anyway, because this game is sweet.
Rating: Summary: Sluggish and Awkward Review: This game is definitely one of the worst I've played. Mouse movement is really awkward. if your into games like Counter-Strike the aiming and shooting of weapons in this game will definitely frustrate you. It's hard to aim exactly because teh movement is sluggish. The radar on the screen when driving can use some improvement. A radar should have been used when just run on the street. It's difficult to tell which way or which door to run into. The radar with arrow points to a lot of dead ends if you are not sure where you are running. Doors you are supposed to enter should be more blatant.
Rating: Summary: Incredible game, great premise, lots of fun Review: The premise of Mafia is quite simple - you, as a high-level associate in the 1930s, are spilling your guts to a cop in hopes of leaving the family. The missions you complete are actually flashbacks as you tell your story. The latter-day storytelling and flashback missions are interwoven quite well, almost seamlessly. The missions start out quite simple and gradually get harder. A hint - get *real* good with cars, fast, as you will soon need to be able to race, and win, to proceed. Spend some time exploring the city - it is really quite engaging, with lots of traffic, pedestrians, and features such as bridges, underpasses, and detailed buildings. Overall this game is quite fun and engaging, and can quickly become addictive. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Could be better.... Review: I've been playing Mafia for about a week now and I'm addicted. However there are some things that could be better about it. For example the save feature is terrible, the game only auto-saves and only at certain points. Plus the police AI are a little to smart, making it difficult to do a lot of really fun stuff. In the actual 1930's gangsters could pretty much walk around with thompsons because there were no laws that covered sub machine guns. Now if they used it that was different, but in Mafia the police don't start shooting because you're shooting they take shots at you if you're seen with the gun. However that's really nit-picky and other then those few things the game is really awesome just be prepared to play the same sequence over and over again until you can get it perfect.
