Summary: The Real Truth About Mafia
Review: Mafia is the best game i have ever played. It never gets boring, its so entertaining, and the grafics are the best ever. 9.3 stars out of 10.0 due to some tennical work. but i say a 10.0 anyway. 2x larger world than GTA3 and more missions. I have hade it for 2 weeks or more and i still haven't beat it. there are a ton of shootouts when you have to protect your boss and friends. But im not trying to give the game away i just recommend you buy this if you like games like and beeter than GTA3 but just a different time line thats all. two settings you get to due and that is free roam, story mode, and free ride extream but you have to beat the game before you get free ride extream mode and it includes no cops COOL! you can go to a gun shop and buy weapons and all shorts of stuff its so real! Buy this game its the best game ever to come out in HISTORY! i wonder what number two will be like? but i dont whant to give the game away so buy it and you will know what i am talking about bye.

Summary: AWESOME!
Review: This game was absolutely superb!
Mafia is like GTA3 in alot of ways but it also brings a welcomed uniqueness to the table as well. The cars and weapons were all very good even the cut scenes were cool(unlike in GTA3 where the character faces were just scary). The only problem though is the AI but aside from that the game kicks. The storyline of the game was extremely good as well, a little sad at the end though but never the less impresive.
Now if they would only take all the positive aspects from Mafia and GTA3 and create on kick [butt] game.

Summary: The TRUTH about MAFIA
Review: If you LIKE driving games - Mafia is for you!!!
If you DON'T like driving around & around & around & around (HoHum) & around some more then pick something else.
Mafia could be a real good game if it weren't for a few things.
1) You don't have the option to QUICK SAVE or SAVE when you choose. The game auto-saves at certain points during the missions for you. Most missions are TIMED and most have to be played more than once or twice or more to beat the clock - this can get repetitive and oh so boring. 2) Most (if not all) the missions involve DRIVING from one end of the map to the other - nothing takes place close to where you already are - again more endless driving. 3) If you have a joy stick you MIGHT be OK driving - forget about using the keyboard - it's not easy.
4) The mouse pointer is "FLOATY" it's not stable. Using the settings and controls I tried to fine tune the floatiness but nothing helped. If you get sea sick easy I would pass on this game. I felt like I had very little control and it's hard to aim
a gun, etc.
If you've played EVERYTHING else - then give this a try
otherwise ....... I would PASS and get that other game you have your eye on.

Summary: Dizzying Game
Review: I had fun playing this game, as it is addictive. it mainly includes driving different cars, shooting, and some searching for object, but when moving upand down the staris or around corridors, when your back is against the wall, the camer azooms front then zooms out, this is sort of mind aerobics, and makes you feel dizzy.Aside from that it is a very involving and a first-class game.

Summary: Makes "Driving Miss Daisy" look like "Bullitt
Review: Okay you know the story to the game. You go from Jamook to Capo overnight. (Now that's making it in the family!) Anyway the game features a lot of driving and shooting, and never truly excels at either one.

First off on starting the game though many people with surround sound will notice that Mafia whacks your rear speakers and changes your system settings to two-speaker setup. How did that get through playtesting?

The game starts out great and seems like it could be promising but then you realize this is not GTA meets the Sopranos. Separating the game into two parts, Story Mode, and Free Ride is a big mistake because it makes the Story Mode very repetitive. Drive from Salieri's Bar to point B. Now this gets OLD real quick because nothing happens during this time. Why make the player drive across town to start the mission when nothing ever happens on the way there? Just start at the mission. The game does shine when it comes to a variety of missions though bad AI, clipping problems, and shoddy weapon damage hamper them. Many missions feature you teaming up with Paulie, and Sam who love to run into enemy fields of fire and your own! I don't know how many times Paulie ran into my los while I'm blazing away with my Tommy gun. Speaking of blazing how come it takes three or four shots to the head to bring down these goons? Note; when using the baseball bat you can take out a goon from behind with one swing to the head, but if you use a gun it takes three shots.

As for the cars, yes they handle realistic which means "High Speed" chases top off at 70mph until you "Unlock" the roadsters. Having to "Unlock" a car to steal it makes for some very absurd situations. After all several models have no driver side windows which makes you look like an idiot as you stand there cracking the lock when all you have to do is reach in and unlock it. The most bizarre cases are when you steal convertibles, and roadsters with no top! Why stand there and pick the lock? Jump in stupid! Heck why even pick the locks, when you got the coppers on your tail? Just smash the window and unlock it like a sensible crook.

The game can have its moments but you will put up with a lot of frustration.

Summary: Quickly Became One Of My All-Time Favorite Video Games
Review: Simply a great experience for those that enjoy PC games.

Tony Angelo is a cab driver that is lonely and down on his luck in the 1930's. After picking up some mobsters in his taxi one day he is thrown into a chaotic, wild ride that takes him to the top rankings of a Mafia family where betrayal, murder, life changing plot twists and turns are a part of every day life.

The main characters are memorable and wonderfully voice acted. The facial textures and animation are probably the best of the current PC games, and the graphics engine, while a system hog, are so good it makes it feel like real cinema.

The action scenes are challenging but fun to play over and over until you accomplish your goal. And every little detail boasts 1930's gangster era novelty, from the brick roads and trolleys, to the clothes, hairstyles, weapons and cars.

Mafia is probably the most stylish and immersive game since No One Lives Forever and Deus Ex. The third person controls work suprisingly well in the gun fight scenes, and there are plenty of different missions to keep it interesting and have you longing to find out what happens next.

There is too much about this game to go into more detail here, but I couldn't recommend a game more highly. It's a "grown up's" game unlike GTA3, which has similar mechanics, but in my opinion doesn't come close to the over-all production value and entertainment that Mafia offers.

If you have a decent computer system and video card, and you only bought one PC game this year, Mafia should be it! Simply one of the few video games that lived up to it's hype, a tremendous product I'll keep and remember forever. It's that good.

Summary: Game of the year
Review: This game has style.

The graphics are very good. The cutscenes look like a real movie. The ingame graphics are very good as well. The indoor missions are detailed to the extreme.

The sound is very good too. The main character's voice is very well done. The music is good...

But let's cut the boring stuff and get to the gameplay. In this game you witness the life a of the mobster Tommy Angelo... first hand. You are him. You witness him joining the mob, marrying, robbing a bank, and much more...

The game is a nice hybrid between Max Payne, Hitman and GTA3. The thing is though, it has been worked on for about 3-4 years. The work had began before GTA3 was even announced.

Oh, well, enough words. In very very short Mafia is an interactive movie that may appeal to fans of GTA3, Hitman or Max Payne.

In my opinion this is the single player game of the year along with Morrowind.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Superb "Interactive Movie"
Review: Mafia came out with very little publicity. Sometimes, those are the best games. Minus all the hype, a person can enjoy a game without all the high expectations that often are not realized. That's what happened with me here.

Not since the original No One Lives Forever, have I felt like I was "playing" a movie, not a game. Mafia has a deep storyline portrayed through well-produced cutscenes. Your character, Tommy Angelo, is a member of a Mafia family in the 1930's, in Lost Heaven, which seems a lot like Chicago. The game plays as a retrospective of the bigger events in his short career with "the family."

Mafia continues to be compared to Grand Theft Auto 3. In some ways, that's a correct assessment. But in most ways, they're very different. GTA3 is more of a cartoonish, over-the-top wild crime ride. Mafia is darker and more realistic. If you enjoyed GTA3, you may not enjoy Mafia, if you're expecting the same kind of experience.

If you're interested in a somewhat difficult, story-driven third person shooter, that also involves driving, you'll enjoy Mafia. The gameplay is a blast. Everything's here....reckless gunfights in different locales. Shoot-outs while driving vintage cars. Cops that actually pull you over for running red lights or speeding. Political assassinations. Rooftop chases. A bank robbery. Even a racing game within-the-game, which has become infamous for its difficulty, but still changes things up in a refreshing way. All of this taking place within a great storyline that takes twists and turns.

The reason I don't give it a full five stars is because of a few issues: You'll need a high end system to really get this game going. While this isn't necessarily a negative, it still has a penchant for slowdowns during unacceptable moments (mainly large gunfights when there's a lot of other activity on-screen). I know there have been a few gamers who have had other problems getting the game to run well at all. Collision detection is also a little weak in some areas and the AI isn't always too bright. When this involves characters you need to help protect, it's very annoying.

Overall, however, this is a superb "interactive movie." It takes some thinking and strategy, but it's well worth your time and money. Look for Mafia to be a game of the year candidate.

Summary: Blows Away GTA3!!!
Review: I have been playing Mafia for about two weeks now and I have to say that I am still completely in love with it. Like everyone else says, the graphics are absolutely amazing! The storyline and plot are very cool. I like how the game progresses throught the era, allowing surroundings and vehicles to age with the times. I also am a fan of GTA3 however I have it for PS2 so I guess I can not compare system speeds to that. As far as this particular game goes, I have had absolutely no problem with it for slowing down during gameplay. I have a P4 1.3GH, 768mb RAM, and 128mb ge-force4, so I suspect those are the reasons that it runs so smoothly. I absolutely can see how slower systems may not act as well, afterall there is a lot going in the game.
I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes the GTA type game...Plenty of murder, shooting, robbery, and pure straight up gangsters. Buy this game. You'll love it!

Summary: Do NOT play if you liked GTA III
Review: I was unfortunate enough to buy Mafia for my PC...

Sadly, it is perhaps the worst budget game I have ever played and am uninstalling it.

Why I hate this glorified budget game:
* Excellent graphics do NOT make up for poor gameplay and retarded AI.

* Some might think driving a car around at 20 MPH is cool, but I've played GTA III and know what a driving game should feel like. Running into people should NOT be like running into a static object such as a garbage can.

* AI?!? AI? Try this for fun: shoot a guy in a car at an intersection. The ENTIRE FRICKEN game is bogged down with traffic now because of ONE guy!?! Try that in GTA III to see what AI should do. (Maybe drive AROUND the dead body instead of dropping the frame rate in the single digits?

* Attack someone in a car and they sit there. No emotion, no reaction.

* GeForce3 Ti and it runs ~ 20 FPS in medium detail?
Bottom line: I've seen better games at Wal-Mart's budget bin.

I bought this because of a review on GameSpot and canceled my subscription membership after thier bogus review.
