Rating: Summary: Katarn vs. the Sarlacc! Review: The best level is the one in which Katarn falls into the maw of the Sarlacc, where he learns a new definition of pain as he is slowly digested over 1000 years! Warning: That level takes place in real time, so it might take a while to complete. The only power available is Force Decompose, so don't even try Force Jump. And your puny Jedi Mind Trick won't work on me--I mean him!
Rating: Summary: whoever wrote "unbelivable" is stupid Review: First off, this game won't be relesed for almost a year, so ever wrote "unbelievable" is making a lots of stuff up. By the time this game is released, this game may be way behind the pack, or way ahead; no one knows because it is almost a year from now. Don't listen to him. Besides, who would beleive "some guy from Bonerland"?
Rating: Summary: Still good in 2004 Review: I recently got high-end computer that can play all the graphics-intensive games I've wanted to play for years, like Black & White and Neverwinter Nights. While I was buying those games, I also picked up this one because I'd been interested in the series for a while and was impressed by the reviews. I was a little concerned that it wouldn't even run properly on my new machine, but if worst came to worst I could always play it on the old one. However, to my great pleasure it does run on my computer (128Mb ATI Radeon 9700, 2.8GHz Intel Pentium 4, 512Mb RAM, Windows XP), although it's a little hyper--I turned the mouse sensitivity all the way down and it's just barely manageable. The only problems I've had are that it crashes from time to time when I'm loading or saving a game--and restarting it takes less time than waiting for levels to load in some games on my old computer, so that doesn't bother me much--and the cutscenes don't play right--the sound is out of sync and after a while they start to skip. Otherwise, it runs beautifully. The graphics are a little dated (the water is the worst; it looks like shag carpet), but all things considered not terrible, and they don't in anyway detract from the enjoyment for me. In terms of gameplay, I love it. I've never been a huge fan of shooter games (Doom gave me nightmares when I was a teenager and turned me off to them for a long time), and yet of the half-dozen games I got for my new computer, it's this one that I can play for six or eight hours straight and not even realize it. I like NWN, I like B&W, but I love Jedi Knight. My favorite things about it: you can play in either 1st or 3rd person, which I find extremely helpful, because when I'm navigating a narrow ledge I like to be able to see my feet, but if I'm shooting an enemy who's just a speck in the distance, the 1st person crosshair is useful; I've never seen controls so thoroughly customizable; having a lightsaber kicks arse; Jedi powers kick arse; and I find myself using almost all of my weapons in different contexts, rather than always going with the most powerful weapon available--lightsaber is great for taking down a few enemies quietly, especially with its ability to block incoming fire; stormtrooper rifle is great for thinning out crowds, and in 3rd person because you don't have to aim it very precisely; thermal grenades are good for sneaking up on groups of enemies, especially from above, and for detonating mines; crossbow is good for precision sniping in 1st person; I use the railgun similarly to the stormtrooper rifle but it's precise enough to work better in 1st person; etc... So, all in all, a great game which holds its own against newer, more technologically advanced games. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Great for any star wars fan Review: This is a great follow -up to Jedi Outcast. This is almost the exact same game since it has some of the same weapons, music and characters only this one had much better graphics. Any fan of star wars will probably love this game. You can play this game in either first-person or third-person mode. I always like to play games that are in third-person mode but I still remember first-person mode from dark forces.Plot: You play a student named Jaden Korr, who comes to the jedi academy to learn to be a jedi. You learn how to use a lightsaber and how to use the force. At first, you go on a few missions, some with Kyle Katarn from Jedi Outcast. But mainly you help Luke, Kyle and other students to try to stop a dark jedi, Tavion, from siphoning force power from many different locations to ressurect Marka Ragnos[a dead sith lord]. Weapons: Here is a list of the weapons: lightsaber, blaster pistol, E-11 blaster rifle, disputer rifle, wookie bowcaster, imperial heavy repeater, magnetic gun, golan arms flachette weapon, stouker concussion rifle, merr-sonn portable missle system and other throwable weapons. These weapons do come in handy but it's best to use a lightsaber. There's not much I can tell you about the weapons except that most of them you have probably seen in Jedi outcast. I was surprised to see that this game was much easier than the Jedi Outcast but I still think this is a cool game. If you're a star wars fan, buy this game TODAY!
Rating: Summary: Great Follow-Up To Jedi Outcast!!! Review: I know some have said that if you've got Jedi Outcast to not bother with this game. However, I beg to differ!!! Jedi Academy is a great follow-up to Jedi Outcast, with Kyle Katarn now teaching at the Academy on Yavin 4 with Master Skywalker. You create your own character, which adds a new variant to the game, and get to choose from three different lightsaber configurations. The premise is that you are now, as the title implies, at the Jedi Academy undergoing training. While you start off at the academy, don't get settled in as you're soon off to others worlds to complete missions, everywhere from Hoth to good ole Tantooine! Did I mention you'll get to work with new Force powers as well!?! I highly recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of Star Wars, or is a fan of the Jedi Knight series of games. I look forward to the next game in the series of Jedi Knight games!!
Rating: Summary: Fun Game! Review: This was a really fun game to play. I picked it up from the library and enjoyed playing it for the two weeks I had it. This was much better than Jedi Knight:Dark Forces 2, you get lots of cool weapons and the graphics are great. In this game Kyle Katarn is trying to stop fallen Jedi Desann who has found the Valley of the Jedi and is trying to empower others with the Force.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT!!! Review: I love this game!! (don't even rate this review because it's not a review!) It's exceptional at online play and story mode...I agree with all the people who gave the game 5-stars read their reviews!!!
Rating: Summary: Hmmmm Review: Can't say I'm too impressed. The new sabers are a nice addition, all be it available a bit late in the game. The new moves are nothing but eye candy, as is the character creation. The light/dark choice was a complete let down, after playing DF2:JK. The mission tier system, while a good concept is seriously flawed. Some of the force powers from JO multiplayer are a nice addition to SP. The multiplayer side could be good, if not for the community. It's basically dumbed-down JO. I'm not too keen on the force restriction on special moves, ahh no more rage-speed-DFA destroying. Nobody seems to fight, instead everyone stands around & chats, & punish people with their user made mods, should you try. EX; server admin can kill you, put you to 'sleep', & other ridiculous things through 'admin-mods' which are basically server side cheats, for as much as lighting your saber. Not exactly the games fault, but the communities. Just letting those who play games for the MP competitive scene know that they may want to skip this title, as I should have.
Rating: Summary: What happened?!!!? Review: This game was my introduction to Jedi Knight series. The only Star Wars game I had played before this was Knights of the Old Republic (which I loved). After finishing it I was excited about more Star Wars gaming and I tried Jedi Academy.
The game seemed to be a mixed bag: there was some great things like ability to customize your character and choosing between saber styles. The acrobatics were fantastic. But these alone were not enough to save the game: some of the graphics looked really bad especially outdoor environments. In general everything felt like it was made in great hurry: the textures, lightning and everything felt unpolished. Quake III engine is capable of much better when levels are planned with artistic vision. Character animations in cutscenes looked clumsy and unfinished. But the biggest problem with the game was the story (or the lack of it). Overall the game feels like you had different fan made maps put together.
I know a lot of people probably wanted more lightsaber combat. Well you certainly got that with this game. The problem is that it gets VERY repetitive after a while. In movies the saber fights were used sparingly and always connected to major turning points in the plot. Now it is just endless repetition (didn't I beat this guy already? Like 100 times!!!)
I recently tried Jedi Outcast (the previous game in the serie) and I was SHOCKED to realize just how much better it was in almost every way: the graphics, the plot, the missions all had real touch of quality in it. It seems Raven tried to improve some elements in the game and totally forgot everything that made Jedi Outcast such a classic. Or more likely this product just had to be finished with a real tight deadline. That just how it feels like: an unfinished product which COULD have been great if they had maintained the quality of previous game. I truly recommend Knights of the Old Republic and Jedi Outcast over this.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Jedi fighting, poor controls. Review: Let me start out by saying that I've played all the Jedi Knight games since back in the old Windows 95 days. I'm a fan of this series, but as good as Jedi Academy is I wasn't able to give it 5 stars because of one simple reason ... KOTOR.
KOTOR (or Knights of the Old Republic) is another Star Wars game in which you can assume the role of a Jedi ... and in my opinion, KOTOR (and KOTOR II) does a better job. Even though Jedi Academy gives you a lightsaber to start with and offers more Jedi powers to control, the problem is, well ... control.
Jedi Academy requires you to use a complex set of keyboard and mouse controls in order to control your character ... and considering how hard the enemies are (even in easy/Padawan mode) you need the controls to be as simple as possible for combat. In KOTOR, you can do almost everything with just the mouse.
I consider myself to be an experienced PC gamer, so keyboard and mouse controls are nothing new to me, but Jedi Academy requires me to jump all over the keyboard to control my character. Maybe KOTOR spoiled me, but seeing how simple the controls can be makes me angry when I have to play a similar game with MUCH more complex controls.
Anyway, graphics aren't bad and voice acting is pretty good. If you like being a Jedi I still recommend this game, but if your only experience with Star Wars games is KOTOR or KOTOR II then you probably won't like the controls in this game. Also, this game ran flawlessly on my P4 2.8Ghz machine with 1Gig of RAM and an 128MB ATI card.
