Rating: Summary: Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet game Review: I'm a big fan of Mechwarrior 1, 2, and 3 and all but when I got this game I was blown away by how fun it was. Sure I hate FMV a lot, but the game is cool. The only thing I don't like to much is how you can only put specific types of weapons on a specific Mech. Over all I give this game 5 stars because of the story plot, the graphics, and the mechs. If you have been thinking about buying it, Buy it.
Rating: Summary: Can't Play What Won't Run Review: I have a brand, new state-of-the-art gaming PC and this game crashes it. Even under the more reliable Windows 2000, I even get an occasional bluescreen or unannounced reboot. From the looks of the Event Log messages about bad blocks on the CD, I bet this problem has something to do with CD-ROM copy protection. With the ORIGINAL CD in the drive it crashes. I'm noticing more game CDs that I can't make backup copies of. It's no coincidence that those same games are the ones that crash or hang on startup (when they check for non-standard sectors on the CD, I presume). I think game manufacturers should have to put a warning on non-standard CDs.
Rating: Summary: Oh yea, baby!!! Review: I have been a big fan of the Mechwarrior series since the first time I played Mechwarrior 2. This is a great game. The AI is much better with regards to lancemates than Mech 3. The game is also harder which, I think, makes it more fun to play. You actually have to work to win. The only thing I really wasnt cracked about was the live action video. I typically think that kind of thing is cheesey. The story behind it, however, was done well. In short...Buy it. It rules.
Rating: Summary: Three words Review: Let me start by saying three words. BUY THIS GAME. Now that I have gotten that out of my system Im going to give you reosons for youre new purchace. The action for this game is amazing and a reason enough to buy this game but thats not all this game has to offer. Storyline is important to me and all of the mek warrior series has it. There are apparantly 16 games made and so they have a lot to draw from. The acting is not memorable but looking at the people who have gotten oscars rescently it looks like good actors are hard to find (and no Im not an old man ranting about how good the actors where in the fiftys). The multi player is the best I have ever played and gives yet another reason for teens to not go outside (only joking). You can take this game as far as you want or as short as you want. the controls are easy compared to the games that came before but can become more advanced the more you learn. The expansion pack is on its way which should make it an even better game. all in all this game is a must and if youre computer can take it you have to get it.
Rating: Summary: Great graphics, great sound, but FMV that's as bad as 1996. Review: In the old days of games, right after Windows 95 made it easy for developers to include videos based on an already installed MPEG decoder, FMV (Full Motion Video) was all the rage. Games by several different publishers appeared, including Seirra and Origin. It's best to say that in most of these, the combination of terrible actors, poor video quality, and sound recordings that made stronger men then I weep didn't bode well, and eventually 99% of games dropped the standard. Wing Commander III & IV were different because they choose to use actual actors and sets, setting a standard never repeated. But in most games, voice actors could be hired for less and either animation or in-game cinematics could be used. Enter Mechwarrior IV. At it's core, it's a mechwarrior simulation with great graphics, a good story, fun multiplayer, and great arcade action.... but you have to sit through some of the WORST FMV EVER MADE to play the game. You can skip it, yes, but then you miss the plot that's semi-actually-interesting, and so eventually you start playing the game just for the multiplayer, because the FMV is **THAT** bad. Terrible, horrible FMV acting. I have no idea why the developers MS employeed thought that they had the formula to resurrrect a standard from non-suckitude, but they didn't, and the FMV hurts me so much I've never been able to complete this game because I just can't stand to see another FMV. Other than that, the game rocks.
Rating: Summary: Like Multi-player Action? Review: If you do, then buy this game and you will never leave your house! If you have a high-speed internet connection, you'll likely find that this game is more addicting than crack. The single-player campaign options are fun, but I just use them for practice for the multi-player. THAT's where the fun is! I forget to eat when I'm playing, and have probably lost 10 pounds in the past month.. I highly recommend you pay the extra money and get a microsoft sidewinder joystick. The game is built around this joystick, and it really makes the game much more enjoyable. Your standard gamepad is practically useless. Learning the game was easy. The mechlab is great, allows you to tweak the perfect mech to your liking.
Rating: Summary: Microsoft Keeps the Series Alive... Review: Before I start my review, I would like to take this time to issue a warning: Do NOT get this game if you have a dangerously low tolerance for explosions and/or a middle-class computer. MechWarrior 4 packs in so much detail and speed that viewing this game is especially tough on slow computers (our computer actually filed a lawsuit against us for first-degree assault). Anyway, to avoid your computer trying to slash your credit rating (or something much more sinister) please use a Pentium III or equivalent. Another thing to mention is that this is a testosterone-fueled game, and will NOT help your computer's inferiority complex. Now, onto to the review!: MechWarrior 4 can be placed in the category of Robot Action. There are several other games that fall into this genre: Virtua On and all of the other MechWarrior series. In most Robot Action genres, you control robots with a wide array of weapons in an interactive arena. You will verse other robots in these arenas in attempts to kill, or blow up, these other robots. This genre will usually contain: Sci-fi violence, very little or no gore, and little language. This game is no exception; it is rated Teen. MechWarrior 4's gameplay is very fun. This can be linked to its weapon blasting, fast-paced, techno-blasting style. The game has both single player and multiplayer modes. Both are unique and have much to offer. MechWarrior also adds a Mechlab in which you can customize your favorite mechs to a huge extent. Its music and sound effects heighten the MechWarrior experience. To give you a closer look at MechWarrior I shall go into each of these subjects individually: Single Player Campaign: This mode pits you in the body of Ean Desari, an adolescent boy whose father was just killed because he refused and boycotted a trade. His death starts a small rebellion that includes you, Ean Desari. The campaign leads you on seven different sets of missions until you overthrow the "evil empire". To gain good MechWarrior experience, you will have to take this mode. Instant Action: To quickly build up your skills, this mode is the best. Featuring four different ways to battle (Mission Play, Wave, Master Trials and Tutorial) this mode is fun, challenging, and most of all, the very best. And I'm not kidding when I say this mode is the best. Mechlab: This isn't really a mode, as it is a trivial feature of MechWarrior. It appears in the Instant Action mode, the Single Player Campaign, and the Multiplayer Mode. The Mechlab allows you to take an already made mech and change everything from weapons to individual points of armor. It's surprising to see how much your favorite mech can change! This mode is the greatest in the one-player modes, as you can make perfect teams. Multiplayer: Now in MechWarrior you can play against people from around the world; and like most online games you can chat with your team. The chat is concentrated on the battle so you don't get any riffraff chat like "any fems here" etc... The Multiplayer Mode has much more options if you host a game. Some examples are: Restrict Mechs and/or Components, and Choose Your Type of Game (there are several different modes; each fun and unique). Even if you don't have some buddies to play with, you can use a computer player (called bots) that are supplied by ZoneStats. If you don't have a high-speed modem, then don't worry: I have a 24.4 kb. modem and I still get pumped up graphics and sound. THE FINAL WORD: This game is an absolute blast! Tons of weapons, a very flexible design, and a long and gripping single player campaign make this a great buy. Of course, the need for a great computer ... and the steep price are a bit on the con side of things. However, there are too many great things about this game to stop you from buying it. You will get your moneys worth. You will be satisfied. And most of all, You will not regret buying it.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST PC EXPERIENCE EVER Review: REMEMBER ALL THE HYPE WE HAD OVER MECHWARRIOR 2. WELL ITS BACK ONLY BIGGER,BADDER,& BETTER THAN BEFORE. I HAVE HAD MORE FUN OUT OF THIS GAME THAN ANY I HAVE EVER PLAYED ON THE PC(INCLUDING MECHWARRIOR 2,DOOM,HALF-LIFE,THE ORIGINAL PRINCE OF PERSIA,OR ANY OF THE GREATS. THE GRAPHICS ROCK AND THE MECHS LOOK INCREDIBLE. YOU WILL NEVER GET BORED WITH THIS GAME BECAUSE OF ALL THE OPTIONS YOU HAVE IN THE MECHLAB AND EVEN THE LEVEL OPTIONS ARE COUNTLESS. THE URBAN LEVELS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN MY PERSONAL FAVORITE LEVELS IN ALL THE MECHWARRIOR GAMES SO WHEN I FIRST GOT THIS GAME I WENT RIGHT TO INSTANT ACTION TO THE CITY STREETS AND IT BLEW MY MIND. THE BUILDINGS AND STREETS HAVE NEVER LOOKED BETTER.THE MOUNTAIN,SNOW,SWAMP,DESERT,AND LUNAR LEVELS LOOK AWESOME ALSO. THE WEAPONS ARE VERY NASTY AND SOME OF THE COMBINATIONS WILL BLOW SOME OF THE ENEMY MECHS AWAY IN ONE OR TWO SHOTS!JUST DONT GET TWO CLOSE! I LIKE HOW YOU CAN SALVAGE THE CLAN MECHS AND THEIR TECHNOLOGY TO YOUR OWN. I RECOMEND THIS GAME TO ALL GAMERS AND I BET THAT ANYONE WHO LOVES TO PLAY GAMES WITH GIANT ROBOTS BLOWING EACH OTHER UP WILL BE MORE THAN IMPRESSED WITH THIS GAME. I HAVE HAD THIS GAME FOR 8 OR 9 MONTHS AND IT IS STILL MY FAVORITE GAME.I CANT WAIT TILL THE EXPANSION BLACK KNIGHT COMES OUT IN THE FALL.
Rating: Summary: Loads of Mechanized fun! Review: It takes some time getting used to piloting a 'mech, but once you get the hang of it it's really a blast. The graphics are very nice, with believable 'mech movements, nice weapon animations, and terrifying explosions. Gameplay is addictive, but not all mindless fragging. I found that in several missions, the best way to survive was to evade the enemy rather than duke it out. I think Mechwarrior 4 is more attractive to players of space simulation games than to first person shooter fans. I don't like shooters at all, but I love this game!
Rating: Summary: Mechwarrior made easy Review: To me it seems more time was spent on the storyline/video recording than game development. The actors didn't say anything I really wanted to hear and it just wasn't as satisfying blowing things up as it was in MW3. Even with a good PC (Pent 4 1.4G w/all the trimmings) it gets choppy in battle. I recommend if want to pretend you are a blond hair blue eyed kid and you want to see video's of people "talking", but if you wanna rip a mechs leg off with an Auto Cannon, stick to MW3.
