Summary: ..., this game is good
Review: ok first off, half of these people complaining about lock ups and stuff like that shouldn't even be alloud to review... ok we don't wanna hear that the game can't handle your pentium 2 with a voodoo card and all that ... this is only for people who play the FULL version game... seriously... its like giving a review to a book you never read...

ok, now to the real review..
this game has many diffrent choices on what you want to do, you could be a medic, engineer, assult etc.. and you have a big variaty on what viehicals you want to go in (if you even want to) and its a hell of a lot of fun trying to capture all the outposts, or have a great dog fight...

Good-
Big variaty of viehicals
diffrent modes of play
can have axis or allied weapons\ spawn points
a great clan base game

Bad-
Can get kind of boring sometimes
takes a bit to load (a good 30-50 seconds)
there can be alot of ... people in the game.. (TKs)

and all those people who say get medal of honor... well i have that game too.. but i don't think its as good (some times its the BEST) but in medal of honor there are alot of ... who use shotguns and Rocket launchers which totaly take the fun out.. and you can't drive in tanks or anything.. and in medal of honor not too many maps to play..

i suggest getting this game when the price drops, its very fun...

and for the people who said they couldn't find the patch and all that ... well you guys ... i found the patch and downloaded it in like a minute while you guys spend all day looking for the link that says "patch" on their website...

Summary: Great concept, needs a little fine tuning
Review: I've played the single player and mulitplayer demos, and both are really fun and addicting. The single player works almost flawlessly, except for the fact that the AI is kinda stupid when on foot. But the multiplayer needs a little work. It takes me about 5 tries to get into a server without crashing or disconnecting, and when I do get in, most servers lag so badly I have to leave. Occasionally I'll get into a good server with minimal lag. Another problem is it's almost impossible to kill someone without a high-explosive weapon like grenades or bazookas. I've unloaded 3 clips from a thompson into someone and they still didn't die. The airplane controlls get a little sketchy sometimes as well. Overall, if EA manages to fix these bugs, BF1942 would be a must-buy.

Summary: Its worse than nicotine!
Review: I don't usually come across a game where i spend as much time as i can on it. This is one of those. I being an experince Counter-Strike player got a real rush out of it. All of my friends and I were really impressed at all the things you could drive, pilot, or navigate. And even more impressed at the ease of it all. So far the only thing i still have troble with is piloting the airplanes because it more realistic than most of its kind. So far this is the best as it gets for a first person shooter.

Summary: Not Like Medal of Honor
Review: If you're expecting a game similar to Medal of Honor (MOH), you're expecting too much! First of all, I had to get a new graphics card (had TNT & that didn't work) just to play the game! After it was installed & I was FINALLY able to play, I was a little disappointed. Driving the vehicles is fun (although I have not mastered the planes) but you don't have the one-on-one battles with soldiers like you do in MOH. Most of the battles are fought using tanks. The graphics are good, but I thought MOH was better. I'm looking forward to THAT upgrade soon!!

Summary: The Good, The Bad, and the Laggy
Review: THE GOOD: The best online multiplayer action since Return to Castle Wolfenstein was released! Several weapons and classes of foot soldiers to choose from (medic, engineer, assault, sniper, anti-tank), and vehicles galore! Subs, battleships, bombers, fighters, tanks, artillery, and more. Parachute out of a fighter, man an AA gun, blast APC's with a variety of tanks, use a destroyer to bombard the beach. There is just so much to do in this game that each round can feel different depending on the vehicle and/or class of soldier you choose to use. Battlefield 1942 is every bit as ambitious as the hype that preceded it's release. It's an excellent game, and will provide hours of fun if you have a broadband internet connection and a fast enough 'puter to run it. And unlike many WWII shooters, which sport only American and German soldiers, BF 1942 contains troops and vehicles from all 5 major powers of the conflict: American, British, Russian, German, and Japanese. All of which speak in their native tongues and fight in every major theatre: Pacific, Western and Eastern fronts, and North Africa.

THE BAD: The single player campaign. If you can call it a campaign. It's merely the multiplayer maps against pathetic bots. If you aren't planning on, or do not have the connection to, play the game online: don't bother. This game was built with online play in mind, and that's it.

THE UGLY: The computing power and connection speed required to enjoy BF 1942 are huge. Even with a 1.47 ghz CPU, 512 megs of DDR RAM, and a 64 meg Geforce3, I still had to adjust the in game graphics settings to get it to run smoothly. It lags quite often, even in single player mode! Now that my settings are tweaked enough, the game runs fine, but still hits an occasional hiccup even over a 784k/256k DSL connection. Don't even bother if you have a dial-up.

BOTTOM LINE: If you have the computing power and the CABLE/DSL/T1 connection to run it smoothly, you won't find many games more fun than this one to play online. The maps, gameplay, vehicles, and soldier classes are all outstanding, and with the abundance of variety in tactical approaches, you'll never get bored. A fabulous game.

Summary: Great game with even greater potential in the future
Review: After reading some of the negative reviews, I felt compelled to write a review of my own for the game. First off, in general I dislike FPS games as they are typically very shallow and monotonous. BF1942 is a bit of a change from the normal mold and offers a much wider variety of gameplay. There are numerous vehicles/planes to use and several different classes of infantry to play, all with different strategies and strengths/weaknesses. This helps keep the game fresh, as if you get tired of being an assault infantry, you can take a break and go on some bombing runs, or sit back and take out enemy planes with anti-aircraft, or hide and do some sniping. Teamwork also plays a significant role in the game. You really do have to work with your teammates to some degree in order to win the game. Going solo Rambo-style might get you a few kills, but it will do little to secure any flags for your team and inevitably will just get you killed. Unfortunately the game is still fairly new, and there are a lot of rambos/hero-wanna-bes in the game still. As time progresses hopefully there will be more more solid teamwork at play instead of individualism.

To address some of the negative remarks about the game.
1) Yes, the computer AI currently stinks. But this is a multiplayer game, not a single player game. You can play SP if you want to, but MP is where the fun is. So AI really isn't much of an issue for me since I don't play single player.

2) I don't really think I have that beefy of a system (AMD 1600+, geforce ti4200), but my graphics are very smooth at 1152x862 and every graphic option at high. It was flawless at 1024x768. At 1152 it is a tad less smooth, but still perfectly acceptable. There are several fixes for choppiness that some of the complainers might not have tried. This includes turning on hardware accelleration for sound (by default its off) and also reducing the sound quality from the default.

3) Lag. I have never had a problem with lag. As long as you have 150 ping or under to the server its not been an issue with me. This may be back if you use 56k, but broadband is fine. Plenty of different servers so you can find one that works.

4) I have never crashed once, so I can't comment on the problems others have had in this area.

5) getting the patch. Not sure why others have had problems - I downloaded it easily on my first day.

Also, the patch 1.2 is currently in development to further tweak the lag code + some other stuff.

So overall this is a very fun game - this coming from someone who doesn't like FPS's usually. It does have a bit of a learning curve, and you need to learn to work with your teammates to truly be effective.

Summary: I'm Sorry, But I'm Very Disappointed In This Game!
Review: I was really looking forward to buying and playing Battlefield 1942. I had heard so much hype about it. You know what? You need a super computer to play this game. Now don't tell me to go buy a newer computer because I already have a new computer. I have a Dell 1.7GHz with 256MB RAM and a 32MB Nvidia Geforce 4 Graphics Card. No matter what setting I put this game on, this game lags and movement of everything is very slow. I ended up taking the game back to the store and putting in a preorder for the expansion pack to Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, which comes out next month. I never had any trouble at all with Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and it ran as smooth as silk on my computer. Electronic Arts (EA) has published both Battlefield 1942 and Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and I can't believe they would let Battlefield 1942 be published with all of the bugs in it. This game needs alot of work and alot of patches to be able to work right. I'm very disappointed that EA released this game so early with so many bugs.

Summary: This is great! I haven't stopped playing...
Review: The concept behind this game is great. WW II. All theatre of the war. Islands, beaches, deserts, woods, winter... Planes, tanks, half tracks, jeeps, bombers, battleships, landing craft... Everything can be controlled.

It's awesome. The only down side is you need a pretty hefty machine to run it. I am running a P3/650 with 256 meg RAM, GEFroce 256 with 32 mag RAM video card and a SoundBlaster Live! sound card. Even with that, I have to have all the settings down to the minimum in order to keep it from becoming choppy.

EA has released the first patch and are promising the second patch in the near future.

The game comes with a single player campaign and an instant battle. But, it's real strength is the online multi player. It can support up to 64 players at one time. It is a client server game, not peer to peer. It has a built in interface to a master server that keep track of all the registered servers. Right now, there are usually 850 - 900 servers online everyday with about 9,000 players.

There are about 15 maps available. The maps vary in size from pretty small and chaotic (Omaha Beach) the very large and strategic (El Alamein). The interface to the controls are very simple. It is still considered a first person shooter, but there is a lot of simulation in it as well... Planes, tanks, machinegun bunkers, AA guns...

I am not normally interested in first person shooters. They all seem to be Quake knockoff with better graphics and sound. But this one is different. There are so many things to do. So many ways to play. If EA can stay up with the patches, this one should become on of the big hits on the Internet.

Lot's of fun!!!

Summary: Lockups and crashes
Review: Allied Assult worked just great, but Battlefield 1942 locks up and crashes so often it is unplayable. I'm sure it's something conflicting with background tasks or another configuration problem, but who wants to spend all day trying to figure out how to make the product work? I recommend trying another game and let the designers spend more time cleaning up the next version.

Summary: Best online wargame FPS ive ever played
Review: This is what we all hoped operation flashpoint would be like. This is what we all thought medal of honor would be like. It is the by far the greatest FPS based on WW2 ever created. It has a perfect balance between what real war is like and what play war is like, and a perfect balance between the allies and the axis.

You can do anything in this game. Play a frontline soldier, an anti tank, a medic, a scout/sniper, or an engineer. You can also man stationary MGs, flak turrets, and shore batteries. And ofcourse you can drive tanks, jeeps, APCs, divers, bombers, fighters, battleships and submarines. Its all in this game and perfectly blended to make the best wargame ever.

The graphics arnt state of the art but they're good and if your really big on graphics you'll find that the gameplay makes up for it. The only bad things ide have to say about the game are that there are a few bugs which all games do when they're first released and the AI glitches which dont really matter because the real game is online.

I would recommend this game to everyone that enjoys all forms of FPS's and definetly to those you like warfare games espicially WW2. If you like games like Medal of Honor this just might not be the game for you because its alot more intense and sophisticated. This concludes my review, if you dont believe me....
