Rating: Summary: Puts you right there on the beach Review: MOHAA is an excellent World War II FPS. I personally like it better than Return to Castle Wolfenstein just because its so much more realistic. No zombies or whatnot in this one. The graphics could be a bit more refined but still they are very good. I was reading some of the other reviews and I noticed people saying that lines were taken directly out of Saving Private Ryan from the d-day scene. This is true. In fact its almost funny how similar the d-day part is to the d-day part in Private Ryan. Its not just the dialouge either, its also the events. You reach the top of the beach, blow the shingles, go through, snipe the Germans hiding behind the sandbags (sound familiar?). I was dissapointed also with the lack of blood. Blood and even dismemberment would have made this game so real. It would have put you into world war II (..or saving private ryan). Graphics and gameplay aside, the sound is terrific. I loved the effects and just switching weapons was a joy for me (I don't know why but I have a thing with sound effects and sound quality). Overall this game is an extremely good WWII shooter and if you are into WWII... this game is for you.
Rating: Summary: Worth the purchase Review: I found this game to be well worth the purchase. My brother and I started playing the game from a recomendation of a friend. From the first moment of gameplay you will be engaged. All the missions are amazing, the graphics and gameplay are great. The best part of this game for me so far is the online play, but be warned- anybody with slow internet connection will not be happy playing this online. I would reccomend this game to anybody into first person games.
Rating: Summary: Perhaps best FPS ever Review: This is perhaps the best first-person shooter ever. Everything is right, from the jogging pace to the weapons. Unlike Half-Life, the running speed of the character isn't 100 mph; the character moves at a normal, expected running pace. The levels are difficult without having to have bosses at the end of each level. The end level is somewhat disappointing though. HOWEVER, the "Omaha Beach" level is incredible! And believe it or not, the multiplayer version of Omaha beach is even better. I've played Omaha Beach online maybe a hundred times; it's perhaps the best multiplayer map ever. The game is worth getting just for that one multiplayer map. Unfortunately, the single-player version basically uses only half of that map (if you've played both online and single player, you know what I mean). All in all, an incredible game. I've also played Return to Castle Wolfenstein; they're about even, but RtCW has a more action feel: you'll be fighting bosses and zombies and running around a lot more.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic FPS Review: I was hooked on this game shortly after the multiplayer demo came out and have been playing it ever since. The single player game drops you right in the middle of WWII and allows you to experience some of the most well known battles of the war. Each campaign demands different techniques. In some you are storming through bunkers machine gunning everything in sight, while another puts you in the middle of a dreary sniper-ridden village where paranoia reigns supreme. Along the way you'll work with and be assisted by other troops who are more than willing to put themselves in harms way for you. My only complaint is that the single player game is a bit too short. There were more missions than I was expecting, but I wanted more. The multiplayer game is a different beast all together. There is a different set of maps for multiplayer. The games range from free-for-all (deathmatch) to objective based team matches. The multiplayer game is as least as much fun as the single player. The biggest downside here is the use of Gamespy. The game has an internal browser for finding network games, but you'll probably find yourself using Gamespy since the internal browse is quite poor. With Gamespy you'll be subjected to watching ads (unless you decide to register it) just to find a game to play. Finally, I just have to say the initial release of this game was terribly buggy. After playing the demo for months with no problems I installed the release version to have it continuously crash on me early in the game. I was stuck with a non-working game until the patch was finally released. I had similar experiences with F1 2001 and Black & White. EA's initial releases are clearly beta (at best) and should be treated as such (ie: don't expect much until the first patch is out). Luckily the patch for MOH is out now and most of the problems appear to be resolved.
Rating: Summary: Hands down- the best ever Review: For months I waited in anticipation for EA to put out Medal of Honor:Allied Assault. I spent any free moment reading reviews, looking at previews, and pacing in front of my computer. Thankfully, the game delivered. MOHAA is hands down the best game I have ever played. The graphics are first class, the realism is frightening and the storyline is inspirational. After only a few levels you are thrust on your own to save the free world from the scourge of the Nazis. Anytime after when you are given help, the soldiers will just follow your lead. The Omaha beach level is easily one of the best in video game history, I am practically scared to go try it again and again. The realism is unbelievable; full interaction with the people around you. It is scripted for the most part, but those at EA know how to write a good story. Yes, this is a FPS, so characteristics of typical shoot-em-up games exist (multiple SMG rounds just to slow a guy down), but EA has found a way to at the same time make it an interesting, detailed and mind-blowing. From the frozen north of Trondheim to the forests of Germany, this FPS is different in the sense that it has the ability to downplay your character, make you realise that one man can't win a war, but one man can make a difference. The first level in return to Schermzen is very chilling, since its dark, its snowing, and you can't see anyone that's shooting at you. That final mission is very lenghty and it turned into a great story. Sure it doesn't have the one-shot-you're-dead feature of other realistic shooters, but it gives a challenge to succeed, especially on the hard difficulty. When EA continues the MOH series on PC, I'll go back to pacing in front of my computer.
Rating: Summary: Never seen a game crash this often Review: A fun game to play, but this game has so many bugs that makes it almost impossible to play. It can bring down Win 2000 server with no problem. Do a search on the game's name and "crash" to see what I am talking about. I've played many games, but this one is the one with biggest number of problems that I have ever seen.
Rating: Summary: awesome game Review: Download the demo to try it yourself. The game is the best first person type game I've played. Especially if you like the movie Saving Private Ryan or the HBO series Band of Brothers last year you'll love this. Gameplay-wise it reminds me of the James Bond playstation2 and nintendo64 games. The Normandy invasion level though is incredible and surreal. The only drawback is when there are a bunch of people and actions going on at the same time the graphics get choppy and the sound may go out, but that's the problem with all PC games. The only other consideration you might want to think about is if you prefer the gameplay of playstation 2 games, because a Medal of Honor game for Playstation 2 is coming out June 6th. Myself I'm glad to purchase both this PC game and the upcoming PS2 game.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Pure fun in a WWII atmosphere... Review: Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (MOH) is without a doubt one of the most entertaining first-person shooter games I've played in quite some time. The game begins a U.S. Army Ranger on a secret mission in Algiers and continues with a journey through the history of the western European campaign in WWII. In MOH, you find yourself riding Tiger tanks, sniping Nazis in the rubble of bombed-out European villages, sabotaging U-Boats, assaulting Nazi camps in a torrid blizzard and even storming the Beaches of Omaha. Usually, when I replay missions in first-person shooters (FPS), it is because I am bored with the game and looking for anything that will allow me to enjoy it again. While playing MOH, I found myself purposefully restarting missions because I enjoyed them so much. The mission that allows your soldier to storm the Beaches of Omaha is straight out of the opening scene in the film "Saving Private Ryan." If you are a fan of FPS games that use snipers in single-player missions, you will get a kick out of MOH as it has some of the best sniper missions I've ever played in an FPS. Each mission in MOH is a change from the previous one. I've rarely seen so much variety in single-player missions in an FPS. The graphics for MOH are impressive but you'll need an expensive video card to see the full effort artists put into this game. It's rare but I don't have many negative things to say about MOH. Grenades are a large part of any FPS based on WWII and I feel the mechanics for grenade throwing in MOH could be better. MOH needs more objective style maps for multi-player but the MOD community is working on it at a frantic pace and supposedly the developers will be releasing more maps in the future as well as an expansion pack. ACTION FANS - 5 STARS - If you prefer an FPS with quick and easy movement/mechanics, you might not enjoy MOH as much as other FPS games. In other words, MOH is based more in realism than non-stop action. Your character moves slower, the weapons have kick back, you can't jump like an NBA basketball player, etc. This bothers some people who prefer a FPS with more of an arcade style. When I started playing MOH, I had just finished the game Return to Castle Wolfenstein which played like the aforementioned arcade tempo. It took some getting use to but once I had the hang of it I enjoyed MOH more than most FPS games I've played. I found the mechanics of the game to be a nice compromise, not as rigid as a game like Rainbow Six, but not as unrealistic or too easy like Unreal Tournament. It's easy to play but difficult to master and the style of play in MOH keeps one person from dominating every online game. STRATEGY FANS - 2 STARS - MOH is another shoot 'em up that probably won't appeal to gamers that like to stick with strategy games. If you haven't played an FPS and are willing to give them a chance, I would recommend MOH as an introduction to the genre. ADVENTURE/RPG FANS - 3 STARS - Just as I suggested MOH as an introduction to the FPS genre for strategy game fans, I believe MOH would be a fun experience for fans of RPG games. If you enjoy watching WWII movies, you will probably get a kick out of MOH. It's better than most action games but only you know how much tolerance you have for these types of games. X FACTOR - BATTLE OF THE WWII SHOOTERS - 5 STARS - Recently, the PC gaming community has seen a rush on FPS games with a WWII theme. Return to Castle Wolfenstein and the Day of Defeat mod for Half-Life are only a few. After playing all of them, I have to say MOH was the best WWII experience. It would be fair to say that some of the other WWII FPS multi-player modes are slightly more entertaining but taking everything into account, MOH is the superior product. BUGS - 4 STARS - I didn't encounter a single crash with the single-player mode in MOH but the multiplayer format crashed a few times. Not a major problem and it will probably decrease as more patches are released. There is a glitch in one of the multiplayer maps that allows anyone who wishes to cheat to move underneath the map thus hiding them from view and allowing them to clean house on the enemy but few know how to do it and it will probably be fixed in a future patch. REPLAY VALUE - 5 STARS - MOH uses the same Quake engine that several first-person shooters employ. As I write this review, an official editor has been released and it is basically a modified version of the Quake mapping tools. Luckily, many gamers already know how to modify games that use this popular engine so a full-scale MOD community is already in place with not only multi-player maps in progress but many single-player scenarios being worked on. MOH's single-player missions have plenty of replay value as I even played some missions more than twice. One negative aspect of the multi-player mode is that the most exciting maps are objective maps (require your team to complete goals to win the game) and unfortunately there are only four objective maps included in the game. Deathmatch maps in MOH are your typical deathmatch maps, fun every once in awhile but not entertaining enough to keep your attention for long. A great version of deathmatch maps in MOH is the round-based mode which allows only life per player and is fun to watch as your team either wipes out the enemy or is mercilessly crushed. MOH has a very dedicated online community and looks to have a boatload of MODs, maps, skins and other great additions for a long time.
Rating: Summary: A Sweet Game!! Review: When my U.S. History class started its World War II unit, I got a A+. Why? Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Not only is it the best and most fun first-person shooter I'v ever played, it is very historically accurate. I recommend this game to anyone even remotely interested in WWII, or anyone who loves a good, fun game to sit back, relax, and play. The single player very fun but probably the best part is fighting on a team or for yourself online against other human players. This is a must-have game!
