Summary: The one shot one kill legacy continues!
Review: Rainbow Six 3 is a continuation of the rainbow six trilogy. It's based on unreal's glorious engine, allowing much more immerse, realistic, and improved lighting and shadow and texturing effects to be added to the game's immersion. These effects indeeed relate to splinter cell's graphics features!

And are very realistic, and provide a scary immersion. Modern 3D sound board support with EAX and 3D audio with dolby surround really adds a real feeling, and can be quite useful to detect your enemies in a situation where vision cannot come to aid. Game-play still remains the hyper realistic soul one shot one kill remains, and the action is more fast paced and not as stealthy as it was in the other two rainbow six games.

The A.I is relatively good but not great, when it comes to finding their scripted triggers and paths, they do not always suffice. Other wise, A.I is decent. Single player campaigns and even custom campaigns proove to be very difficult, but with a load of weapons and more movement variety of options, more use of high-tech equipement, more enemies and much more realistic immersive environments, and much more commands and interaction, rainbow six 3 prooves a bit simpler than it's prequels.

Multiplayer is very fun, and Counter-Strike inspired. All these modes like death match in realistic locations with all the weapons and stuff is very cool. Night vision adds more immersion to the game, and the fast paced action more possible with the UNREAL engine really makes the game a more enjoyable experience. Another problem; the physics engine!

I anticipated way more from the unreal engine's rag doll physics. For an example: When you kill an enemy, they do not realistically fall to the ground like in games such as UT2K3. The storyline is a bit thin, nothing special.

And a little uninspiring, plus boring. And more! Generally, although, despite the game's minor flaws is a very enjoyable experience, thus, rainbow six still retaines the soul purpose of the rainbow six series games! But isn't a must have for people who haven't played the rainbow six series games or do not really relate to them, but that's OK, because for rainbow six fans this is a must-have without a doubt. And that's the really sweet spot. :P

Summary: Something is rotten in the state of Raven Shield
Review: ok lets go.

Gameplay-.

First of all you cant save during a mission(wich are very hard by the way) so you are forced to replay the same boring scenario over and over.
If you lose a specialist during a mission, you dont get any replacements, so you could find yourself short on snipers and such later in the game, or replay a mission and try not to lose any men wich is almost an MISSION IMPOSSIBLE.

Missionplanner-.

There is also an overly comlicated "mission planner" but mostly i just use the default mission plans that never work and usually end up in a mission failure.

Recoil-.
Ok i play alot of games with high recoil, and i am all for realism but this is to much.
The recoil on the handguns, smg and rifles is ridiculus.
And to combat that, they have an inbuild aimbot(sjibbí i can let the computer aim for me).

TEAMMATE AI-.

There is no command for your team to cover a direction from wich enemys are suspected to come from.
The game is designed to make AI teammates cover all directions. Thus half the team is looking 12'o clock while taking fire from 6'o clock.
The Teamate AI is very frustrating, as they teamblock you and get you shot in the back, while they cover the wrong directions.

Good bits-.

The graphics are very good and that is always a bonus.
But the game itself is not so good.

Summary: Great tactical first person shooter
Review: This is a great tacticle first person shooter. Be warned action shooter fans this probly isnt for you, this game requires patience and you probly just wont breeze through every level on the first try. I also found some of the later mission a bit on teh difficutl side. There is a stealth mission which requires you not to be seen let alone shoot someone which I found very out of place and frustrating. I'd also like the adress the issue of how it will run. Anther review somewhere areound here said that it will definately run fine on an nvidia card (from personal experience) but didn't know how it would work on an ati card. I'm running an ati card, have everything cranked to max and it runs perfect. Actually I believe the game is ati optimised seeing an ati advertisement packaged with the game. Now back to how the game plays. This game is a hyperrealistic fps if yourve never played a rainbow six game before, 1-2 shots kills you. I found the multiplayer fun, but it isn't for everyone, its a counterstrike inspired multiplayer game in most aspects, once your dead your out of the round. As a whole this isdefinatly a fun game, but not for everyone.

Summary: Read this if you are having trouble deciding on this one!
Review: Many people have been hearing terrible rumors regarding horrible gameplay even on the most advanced of systems. I can tell you this is not the truth. I too was concerned with such tales of horror but I finally got the time and downloaded the demo. I cranked the graphics and resolution on my machine and the game ran very smooth. I was kinda wondering what the heck? Wheres all these god-aweful problems? Well, it seems that Nvidia users will not experience near the problems that ATI users will. I'm a Nvidia graphics card user and have experienced zero problems. But the ATI graphics card users may. So if your an ATI owner you may want to download the demo first and see how it works for you.

Other then that problem (which i didn't even experience) this game is a freak'n blast! I have not had this much fun in the R6 series until now. If you liked any of the other rainbow games, get off your rump and get to the nearest game retailer! What a wonderful addition to the tac-sim based shooters. This may not be a game for you Quake or Counter Strike fans. This game requires skill beyond that off running around like a chicken with it's head cut off blasting people! My only gripe is that the rag doll physics used can be very unrealistic. For example you may shoot an enemy and see him fall to the ground and fold in half. This is not common but is an issue that should be noted. I personally think it is funny, :-) Also the enemy AI and can be extremely smart or at times very dumb. It adds a variety to the skill level of the enemies but some times is just stupid. If these minor problems can be looked over you have an excellent game here. UBI is currently working on a patch to fix the rag doll and some mod makers are working on the AI problems. Pick this one up if you don't think you will have hardware problems, its well worth it!

Summary: Rainbow Six 3 Raven Shield
Review: Best of the (Tom Clancy)series yet. Graphics are wonderful (most of the time) but choppy & slow when a major fire fight is on with smoke & frags going off everywhere. I have run into many bugs though:
A)Flashbangs: don't work-game turns off
B)Teammates will walk in front of your gun-hench commit suicide when sniping or in a fire fight.
C)The thermal vision(sencondary fire) hasn't found an enemy yet for me.
D)Night vision-screen just goes blank/black.
And few others I just can't remember right now.

But the pros in this game far outway the cons.
Being able to send teammates (espeically back-ups) into a hot zone (open doors ect.) before you is awesome & handy. Heartbeat sensors perpair you for what's round the corner or on the other side of a wall though limited to a 15 m. distance but make sure your team is quick to react because the time it takes you to put back the sensor & draw a weapon a tango will have your number & dial you into the grave, swift!
All the goodys will take months to master as I've found out.So many weapons for so many different combat situations makes this game a keeper NOT a TRADE-IN GAME.

This ain't like other 1st person shooters. Being able to program & play or just watch the battle is what MAKES this game! Not to mention the 50 plus weapons at your choosing. GET THIS GAME ! PLAY THIS GAME! LOSE SLEEP PLAYING THIS GAME ! SIGN the divorce papers next week type of game because your wife has become a computer video gamer widow. Get a bigger coffee pot & start brewin cause you won't want to stop playing. And there are many times through out this game I actually JUMPED or screamed. A big thrill to be surprised by the enemy, so be on your gaurd AT ALL TIMES !

So being a big fan of this series I'd give this game an 7 & half to an 8 out of ten. Not more because I find the fact that team-mates blocking shots (walkin in front of you) tring to get into postion & several pieces of equipment I was not able to use even with TECH support just ... annoying !

Summary: Fantastic First Person Tactical Shooter
Review: Ok, before I say anything let me remark that you should be buying this game for the multiplayer gaming. Why? Because this is where it really shines. If you are looking for a single player game, this is still an excellent game yet I would rate it four and a half stars if that is what your looking for. Either way it is a title to definitely put into your collection. Read on and I'll let you know why:

First, as you are probably already aware, the Unreal engine is used for this game which produces fantastic visuals, moody environments and a believable sense of immersion--all the things that a FPS really needs right? It doesn't stop there however. The gameplay is tense and each second leading up to the next staccato of gunfire will leave you anxious and gleeful. It is a perfect mix of first person action with a serious dose of realism charged into it.

That leads to the tactical part of the game. Unlike Unreal Tournament, Quake Arena and others that are of the FPS Genre, Rainbow Six has established itself as a premiere tactical shooter. If you've played others in the Rainbow Six series you'll be familiar with the style, otherwise let me put it this way:

Combat is extremely lethal and is quite final in its outcome. Someone will die and they will stay dead--at least during the match at hand. Bullets can wound but more often than not, they kill. Guns mimic their real life counterparts. The muzzles flare toward the ceiling when you let your fully automatic weapon unload. Reloading can take precious moments during a heated firefight. Each weapon holds various pros and cons that need to be considered for a coming engagement. Yet, for all it's worth the weapons are only a fractional part of the tactics involved.

Doors can be opened "fluidly"--that is slowly and not completely. Enough for you to toss a flashbang or peek inside at the tango lingering within. Corners can be leaned around in a "fluid" and natural manner. Your choice of approach into an area can mean instant death or heartfluttering success. Tactics matter far more than mere rampage.

During multiplayer gaming you can even use a map to give brief direction and instruction to your mates, coordinating your attack on computer controlled tangos (i.e., terrorists) or witty and ever sinister human controlled opponents.

Gameplay online really makes this game blossom into its full potential and offers co-operative and adversarial play with several game types sure to fill your attention. While the single player game is well done, it is a bit repetitive and short. In fact, several of the maps are reused during later missions, meaning that you'll have to carry out a mission at the same location only under different conditions (i.e. at night, etc.).

If you like to edit games, you will also find that the available content feels a bit sparse compared to others that use the Unreal engine as a basis. Still, it is adequate and will be familiar if you've ever edited for Unreal before with only slight variations to the standard.

Overall it's a worthwhile game that should belong on the shelf of everyone that enjoys FPS games. Even if FPS games aren't your standard game of choice, this one deserves to be one of the rare times that you pick up one from the genre. Undoubtedly there are many hours of gameplay for both the single and multiplayer interest.

Summary: RavenShield is great, except for multi-player mode
Review: For those of you who like 1st person shooters, this game is excellent. If you've player Rogue Spear and got addicted like I did then step up to this game. The graphics are excellent. There are new weapons including tear gas, claymors, and automatic pistols for side arms. I still prefer the Eagle over all of them though. You can also customize weapons w/ silencers, high capacity mags, and even thremal scopes on sniper rifles. Oh yea, w/ the thermal scope you can shoot through doors.

The AI is pretty good. Terrorists will chase you and even throw grenades at you. When you frag an enemy they have some pretty interesting death poses. []

Team controls have improved from Rogue Spear too. Now you can switch between individual team members, not just teams. Great for calling on that sniper when you need him.

Now the bad part - the multi player internet option is VERY buggy. I've had the game for 3 weeks and still can't play online. I've been trouble shooting the problems w/ the tech support staff at ubi.com and still no luck. The game has a CD key validation system that does not work for many of us online gamers. They've asked me to disable firewalls, windows settings, download patches, even contact my ISP and check for blocked ports. Way too much work. I'm still trying to get online but it's not looking good. Half the fun of this game is playing online and in Ubi Softs quest to curb software piracy, they have frustrated the honest people who buy their games... One you can burn two hours on and keep wanting more. Good luck to those of you who buy it!

Summary: Best Shooting Game EVER
Review: I have played many shooting games in my life but NO game comes close to this one. The details are fascinating and the gameplay even better. Not only this, but an expansion is coming in Jouly and you will need this game for even a better experience. DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS GAME!

Summary: NO save game function!
Review: Bought this after playing (and loving) Ghost Recon Gold - the first Clancy game I've ever played. Learning curve was steep coming from games like Return to Wolfenstein, Quake, Half-Life etc. but well worth the effort. Raven Shield looked to have so much promise but although the graphics and gameplay are excellent, the AI is real flaky. The previous articles written here cover well the good and bad points so I'll tell you what drops this from a four to a two star game for me - NO SAVE GAME ability.

Nothing like playing the same mission over, and over, and over because you make a single mistake and a hostage gets shot - hence the automatic mission failure. If there's a way to save I haven't found it and that's a game killer for me no matter how well it shines in other areas. If this doesn't bother you then by all means buy it, otherwise I'd recommend Ghost Recon and/or Sum of All Fears.

Summary: does not come close to previous R6 titles
Review: I have purchased and played every Tom Clancy title to date, both R6 and Ghost Recon. Noticed huge decline in release quality when UBI took over and released GR. It took a mod by the name of "Cold War" to make GR good.

Raven Shield was released with a CD Key verification issue from hell. I bought the game day one and had to switch from DSL to Cable to play MP. After playing for over a month now I have noticed the AI is not as good as previous R6 titles. It offers nothing new and in my opinion less that previous titles. The maps are weak. Yes, the graphics and sound are good, but I would expect them to be.

Bottom line, if you love first person shooters and especially Rogue Spear, prepare to be wowed at first, and bored a month from now. I am now waiting for Swat 4: Urban Justice.
