Rating: Summary: A Great Game! Review: i love this game. I went from Mechwarrior 3 to this and i'm pleased. The only thing i don't like is the way you place the weapons. In the earlier games you just stuck a weapon in the arm and it fit. I also didn't like the 2-D people and animals. It was so cool in Mechwarrior 3 to watch people explode in a satisfying shower of blood. I was also pleased they brought some of the old'Mechs from the Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries game. The mechs look awesome!! I only don't like how the owens and puma look. Their heads stick out to much. They look like retarted turtles. All in all i love this game.
Rating: Summary: Tips and a Review Review: I myself have been a diehard Mechwarrior fan all my life and have all of the Mw games (with the exception of pirate moon). I enjoyed the double lance action but In my opinion it was it bit overated because whenever your lancematescame under heavyfire they would get "confused" and fire at a FLEA with no arms instead of the Templar blasting its rear and sometimes (very rarely) your lance would fire at you. I also cannot stress that microsoft should get a new terrain engine to replace those trees and "rocks". Other than the terrain I think this game is good and the fact that I can tick off the Steiners really rocks. And I would just like all players to know 7 key things 1. If you want to salvage go for the head it the easiet way to disable a mech and it to your repetoire. 2.Repairing takes time so try to keep a few mechs handy so you do not have to miss out on that killer mission just because your WOLFHOUND is damaged. 3. Watch where you step because ther could be mines(I know your out there!) and you set off trigger points for ambushes and if you stay behind the trigger lines and you see the enemy you can destroy them without return fire. 4. If your a novice or having a hard time with mission just equip you mech with all ER Large lasers and plenty of heart sinks (Double Heartsinks if you can) and you watch your enemmies turn to dust. Note: Only do this as a last resort because it takes all the fun out off the gamme to know the AI weakness and it takes a degree of firing and pacing to make this technique work. 5. Solaris 7 is a great way to get extra cash but, you have to work for every c-bill of it. And if you want to win take a HELLHOUND into the medium class if you can manage it. 6.One glitch that was very annoying was if you put an ULTRA CLASS AUTOCANNON20onyour mech in battle it would show up as a 10 instead of a 20! 7. When picking you lance pick someone with high blindfighting because all other skill will go up to 90or even 100.
Rating: Summary: Best of the series so far Review: I own all of the Mechwarrior series that run on the PC except for the very first installment. This one is by the best of the lot. I love some of the new Mechs intriduced in this game - my personal favorite is the Gladiator in the assault class with the Hellhound in the medium class. Now if only MS will release MechAssault on the PC I will be truly happy.
Rating: Summary: Do yourself a favor and get Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries Review: I play the actual board game and after playing this game I am disappointed. If you are into a huge arcade slugfest with little or no realism and wizkids abomination looks then get it. It's a game all about the bigger you are and the more ballistics you have the more kills you get.
They should have kept the game as a simulator but they changed it into a jacked up 1st person/3rd person shooter because of non BattleTech players who are too confused about controls and how a 'Mech actually works. So what you get is a dumbed down game with no real BattleTech in it (aren't energy weapons the primary weapons for a Mech anyway? So why are those so week.) but something that competes with all the stupid gundam. You can't even make some of the variants for the Clan `Mechs in this game or get into actual designing!
Fan of BattleTech? Get the board game, MechWarrior 2 Mercenaries because it is the greatest game I have ever played and MechWarrior 3 if you want something pretty close to the board game. Support the Classic BattleTech community, not a mainstream Microsoft butcher. I hope the money I put forth in this game will make MechWarrior 5 right, if it ever comes out...
One final thing, the most important thing is the Clan Technological edge over the Inner Sphere. Well, that does not exist in MechWarrior 4 and ruins one of the important BattleTech aspects.
Rating: Summary: Just played the game over again. Review: I recenlty got a new video card for my computer that let me view stuff at a 1024 x 768 resolution on my tv using the s-video cable so i stuck my computer in my living room and hooked it up to my tv and my surround receiver just to see what it would look like.
THIS GAME IS BEST WHEN USED WITH A REALLY BIG WOOFER.
Oh my god it was awesome. I loved this game when i played it the first time (by first time i mean completing it with all three allegences) but when you play it on a 600 watt system you can feel 1/8th of a mile away and on a 36 inch screen that makes big mechs feel big you add a whole different dimension of reality to it. If you have a s-video output on your video card go set your computer up in the living room.
Rating: Summary: The greatest game ever created Review: I started out getting hooked on Mechwarrior 2. MW4 is my favorite all time game. You can play on the MSN Gaming Zone....with a total of 16 players at the same time! There are MANY leagues for online play, and many "units" to join. Engage in combat against the computer, or against humans online. Team play is fabulous. I use voice communications programs with the game and you talk while you fight. I use Battlecom for voice. Graphics are excellent. You need a good computer to play this. You should also get the IS and CLAN "Mechpaks". Getting Mechwarrior 4 is also recommended. You can download additional maps for Mercenaries at various websites. The Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro joystick is great with this game. To me, games like QUAKE are no comparison. You pilot a walking tank, from 35 to 100 tons. Many types. You have to configure and choose weapons. Lasers, missles, cannon, the works. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Mechwarrior 4 freelance Review: I was stoked to get this game when I heaard about it. I loved that MW:Vengance limited what type of weapons you could mount in the mech chassis. That said, Mercenaries is a vast improvement with the ability to move to different planets and carry out missions for different factions. It says that it's fully compatible with the two offical mech packs so I purchased them as well. This was less then true as none of the new mech designes were avaialable for purchase or salvage in the single player story, but the new weapons and electronics are available. The mech pack designs do show up in the solaris arenas as oppoents but I have yet to receive one as salvage or on the free market.
Rating: Summary: Sim-Lite, Alot of fun for the money Review: If you're a PC gamer (i.e. more avanced than the average console player) you'd be hard pressed to find a better action/sim game for the cash. The thing to remember about Mechwarrior is that it is sim-lite. Yeah, there are some controls to memorize, but unlike, say Falcon 4.0, you won't completley forget how to play if life keeps you away from the computer for more than 2 weeks. The controls make sense and give you just enough immersion to make you feel like you're actually piloting a 80-ton robot. Your mechs are completley customizable (which is also the case in Mechwarrior 4 and the expansion) which is a great way to allow for player expression and to tailor the game to the way YOU want to play. Like sniping? Add long-range missiles and extended range PPC cannons. Like dirty fighting up close? Throw on some autocannons and extra armor. Your enemies are can be pretty tough if you're a newbie, but fear not- the difficulty level is customizable. Your lance-mates also follow orders much better in this game, for some reason. Although their behavior will occasionally have you scratching your head, if you know what to expect you can command them to victory almost every time. The graphics are great, but not bleeding edge by any means. While the environments aren't always superb, the missle trails, beam weapons, the way mechs react to damage, and the mechs themselves all look fantastic and really add to the immersion. This game runs at a high framerate on a mid-range system, which usually is a welcome trade off for eye-candy. Mechs move fluidly, and massive battles never bog your system down. If you've never played a Mechwarrior game before, I recommend Mechwarrior 4: Vengance, especially if you can get it for the same price. MW4:Vengance will give you a good, solid intro to the mechs, weapons, leading lancemates and combat skillz. Of course if you've played Mechwarrior 2, 3 or 4 before- what are you waiting for, quit reading this and buy it now!
Rating: Summary: The most expensive mission pack yet! Review: It seems like the folks at Microsoft have decided to squeeze every possible nickel out of diehard MW fans, without really giving them much in return. Given the outageous price, the cheesy intro, and the dubious claim of 50 new missions (15 of them are just arena matches, and many others are "recycled" to pad the total number), the emphasis is clearly on getting as much money as possible, with minimal coding and design time. If this is all we have to look forward to, RIP MW saga. Little if any work seems to have gone into updating a rather dated graphics engine. A few more detailed skins, and "new" hw that's really just minor tweaks of the old hw, doesn't impress much. In fact, the engine is a bit more sluggish - I can easily play Vengeance and Black Knight at 1600x1280, Mercenaries is often choppy even at 1280x1024. The missions are nothing special. They all seem to be either incredibly easy, or else 4 to 1 odds slugfests, without much middle ground. Very few offer any opportunity to choose your tactics and improve the odds, and the only real thinking the game requires seems to be aimed more at Business majors than gamers. As for having 8 mechs, ok, so now I have even more people getting in my way and not doing what I told them to. Big deal. One continuing annoyance - the interface for working with mechs and missions is as pathetic as ever. I guess "real programmers" don't do menus? All in all, Mercenaries is little more than a highly overpriced mission pack - and frankly, the missions in Black Knight are a still lot more fun. It's time for Microsoft to stop milking this game, and actually improve it. When you finish Mercs, there's a very strong hint that a mission pack is in the future. After spending fifty bucks on this one, I'm not sure I'm interested.
Rating: Summary: I preformed plastic surgery on this game Review: Just a few words. This game could hve been remarkable, but as it stand now, it needs a little work. Thank you. I tweaked a few things on my computer, now the game runs smooth. To get the best results out of this game, simply run a mission for about a minute, or two, and the game will smoothen itself out.The Mek Paks, was the cause of most of the problems, and shared files, can offset the game somewhat, sometimes.
