Summary: Sluggish, Slow and un-responsive
Review: I have yet to return a single game, but this will be the one. Halo: Combat Evolved, has breathtaking visuals, a better-than-average storyline and great weapons. But the PC version is hampered by horridly sluggish game play. I have a 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 and a GeForce FX 5600 Ultra (128 MB), Serial ATA Hard Drive and 1 GB of DDR 400 system RAM. The game is still sluggish to the point of being unplayable if there are more than 6 characters on the screen.

It's an exercise in frustration trying to aim with the effective frame rate of 8 frames/second or worse. This performance (or lack thereof) is simply unacceptable. If the game can run on a 733 MHz Xbox without dropping below 30 frames per second why can't it do the same on my PC?

This game hasn't yet "evolved" for the PC, despite it's availability on store shelves

Summary: I hate this game
Review: Bungie really pulled this game out of their ass. Multiplayer sucks and everything about the game lags and I'm on a brand new system. It lacks so many necessary features for an online pc game. The only fun part is the vehicles, and that's only when it's not lagging so bad.

Summary: A very over-rated game
Review: I have friends at work that have been talking about how great this game is for some time now (x-box version), so I have been eagerly awaiting it's arrival on PC. If the last first person shooter you played is the original Doom, then Halo will seem like a big improvement. All I can say is save your money and download the Unreal Tournament 2003 demo instead. In my opinion, every aspect of UT2003 is better than Halo (graphics, excitement, sound etc.). In addition, I am running this game on a fairly maxed out system with an AMD 2500+ overclocked to 3200+ stats and a Radeon 9700 Pro graphics card and the game chugs when there is too much action on the screen. This should not be the case on a game that is pretty much 2 years old.

Summary: Great!!..for the most part
Review: As a person who has a personal hatred for console gaming (mainly because of the control method) you can Imagine my ellation when I learned of a Halo release for PC. At which pointed I waited...and waited..and then waited some more, then when when IT was supposed to come out I waited agian, finally HALO for PC was released, the game is quite fun, it can be both hardcore and fun at the same time. Multiplayer is probably the best part for me as you can now have OH MY GOD 16players, luckily microsoft didnt expect us to share our monitors with 16 other poeple, the graphics by my standards are decent the gameplay is very fun and immersive in single player, the music is perfect as far as im concerned. but the game truly shines in multiplayer as I said earlier, and now with the ability to use mouse and keyboard ones control can be fast as a greased pig wanted for butchering... THe primary reason I have not given HAlo PC 5 stars is that it has issues with stability, Exception erors, compatibility issues, and you will sometimes fall through the floor while playing the game, luckily you die almost instantly so you arent stuck forever.

Overall Halo is a good buy, for both XBOX players and PC gamers alike because it is filled with lots of new content and you can make it look perty!..thats all I care about

Summary: Just a little tweaking and your ready to go...
Review: Microsofts Halo is an excellent game. It will hold it's own
in the FPS genre. My personal favorit is still Unreal 2k3 and
Tron, but Halo is just as great. Fun game and action. The assault
vehicles are GREAT. Now my pc is on the low end of the gaming
spectrum compared the the lastest soupped up computers.
My system: Dell 8100 Dimension, 1.3Ghz P4, 330w PS, Nvidia ti4600
128mb video card. The only tweaking I had to do was download
the latest Nvidia drivers, (45.23), and I was rocking.

So don't let the negative comments about it not playing well
on some systems. Like any new FPS high end game you buy, there
are some things you need to tweak to get running just the way
you like. GO AHEAD AND BUY THE DARN GAME!

Summary: Looks good, plays good
Review: Since I'm not into the multiplayer thing, I can not comment on that experience. But as far as single player goes, I haven't had any problems. The game runs fine on my modest machine. P4 2.26, 512 ram, radeon 9500 pro. The frame rate has been fine with all the settings set to the max, and at 1024x768 resolution. Having never seen the game on xbox, or actually never seen an xbox, I think the game is really good. It maybe a couple of years old, but the combat is definitly a different experience then most other fps, and just as exciting. Graphically it looks pretty good. The scenary is spectacular. It's definitly a good game.

Summary: umm...
Review: ok, this will be short and sweet.

should you have to spend an hour or more downloading new drivers and tweaking a game for max performance? no.

can most people fix their PC Halo problems by doing that? yes.

with a p4 2.5ghz, 716 rd ram, and ati 9800 pro card, this game looks SICK. i love it. with high res and details, i'm getting 70+ fps. no problem. just be sure to turn vsync on (under the Options menu of the game).

i turned everything down the first night due to lag issues. the next night the dedicated server patch was released and i was able to run the game maxed out once again. just play on a dedicated server. it's that easy.

sorry for folks who have to run the game at lower settings, but it still looks good (a lot like the xbox version). but if you have a fast machine, just grab the latest drivers for your card and you should be set.

and the online play? all that and some apple chips. plus tax. warthogs hauling *** everywhere (with one of more folks inside. one of the best aspects of this game is having two teammates ride along and shoot everything around you as you drive), non-stop gun fire, massive explosions all around, Banshees crashing down from above, and the Scorpion tanks! mad chaos. and hey, the vehicles never take any damage (so you can shoot a Banshee out of the sky and hop right in). using the mouse look makes driving a warthog as easy as breathing. that's a BIG plus for the PC version. the new weapons are also a welcome addition.

what more do you want? the single player game looks amazing and the online play is all kinds of fun. the new maps are perfect for the kind of vehcile-based action you want out of this game. 'nuff said.

Summary: Halo PC
Review: I am a big fan of first person shooters, such as Medal of Honor, half-life, and halo. In an attempt to convert halo from XBox to PC Gearbox and Bungie came together to create one of the best games of all time. Halo has a great storyline and the variety of weapons and levels in the game is unbelieveable. This game is certainly a buyer.

Summary: Beauty, but only for the Beast PC.
Review: This game is definately more fun than most other FPS's in single player mode. Unfortunately you will need a monster of a PC + Video Card to enjoy the graphics enhancements at an acceptable frame rate. When you hike up all your Video Card settings and in-game Graphics settings, you will certainly be impressed by what surrounds you during gameplay. My AMD1.8XP + ATI 9700Pro could not let me enjoy the amazing beauty of this game without instilling feelings of nausea.
If you choose to compromise resolution+detail+ansitrophic filtering+antialiasing for a faster frame-rate, don't expect a "pee in your pants" reaction from yourself and your anxious friends. But if your PC's performance score rivals that of Pixar's Renderfarm, Halo for PC is certainly worth a few nights of missed sleep.

Summary: Framerates are killing me!!!!
Review: First off, I lowered the res, lowered the textures, the game can hit 60 fps, if you run it at 640 x 480, with the textures low and the rest of the settings off. I even lowered anisotropic filtering on my card settings, it made some difference.

This game should NOT be more GPU and CPU intensive as a game like Morrowind. I'm sorry whatever argument you can come up with won't justify the terrible optimization that went along with this game.

It's the new standard in videogame production these days. Concern yourself with graphics and the rest comes later. Let's gouge the people by making games super graphic intensive that they have to go out and buy $500(Can) or $200(US) worth of a videocard.

This computer age is just barbaric, it's really good what we can do, but it's nothing more than strong-arm tactics.

Xbox owners feel proud, your $500(Can), $200(US) system lets you play games that are optimized properly.
