Summary: Excellent game, requires a powerful computer
Review: An excellent game, I cannot recommend it highly enough. Some people would complain about the controls, but they are missing the point: this is not an action game. It is not a shooter, you are not playing this game to kill monsters. The slow, weak character is the entire point of the game: to instill fear. If you could backflip over a monster and sidestep around it while putting a bullet in its head, it would drain every drop of atmosphere and realism from this game.

And realism is here in droves. This game has, without question, some of the best graphics in any game to date. I feel sympathy for people who say this game does not run on their computers, but you should look carefully at the system requirements and make sure yours match. And if all else fails, get the PS2 version, because for fans of the horror genre this is not a game you can afford to miss.

Summary: for people having problems....
Review: anyone saying their video card is not good enough for the game should have read the game specs. The game requires a video card with pixel & vertex shader capability, which if on most agp video cards even the cheap geforce 4 ti4200. On the bottom of the box, it says geforce mx400 not supported (...). Besides all of the technical complaining people are doing, the game is very cool, scary, and beatiful artistically if you have the correct specs to play it. The controls are exactly the same as ps2 controls if you have a pc controller like a sidewinder,(even an improvement over silent hill 2 controls) plus if you hate pc controllers, you can buy a usb adapter to plug a ps2 contoller into your pc at radioshack. Just thought these reviews needed some clearing up due to the excessive low grades it got over simple technical issues.

Summary: Will not work
Review: Even with the recommended specs and updated drivers I cannot get this game to install correctly. It keeps crashing my computer and skipping installation disks and then saying the installation is complete. I'm not sure what the problem is but the game definitely has some technical issues. Avoid.

Summary: Not your typical game
Review: For anyone who may be mistaken: this is NOT a first person shooter! You do shoot at things, but it has a super easy mode for a reason: the people who don't like to fight and prefer the storyline. On the second part of that: this game is a sequal in every sense of the word. Not only does it follow the Silent Hill cult and mythology, she is the child from the first Silent Hill game. (she's been reborn, what, 3 times?) Lastly, I can't say much about the PC version: I played the Playstation 2 version, which may be a little easier to handle. I don't know. But she can get frustrating at times if you run into stuff. This is a good game if you want your emotions played with, just like the first two. But for this one it's best if you play, or at least read a spoiler on, the first game that was out. The music is top notch, once again composed by SH producer Akira Yamaoka. The first area is the most frustrating part, but once you're past that the story picks up quite a bit. All in all a good game, but probably better if you're a Silent Hill fan to begin with.

Summary: Great game that runs fine on my Dell...
Review: Hmm... The game installed, loaded and ran just fine on a 2.53G Pentium 4, with 512M RAM, WINXP, 30G hard drive, Radeon 9600 card (all on a Dell- NOT recommended anymore- I want tech support, not someone in India that I can't understand and whose only advice is to "reinstall Windows"- thanks Dell, for deserting the users that made you what you are!). This said, SH3 continues the tradition of really creepy gaming. The graphics are beautifully rendered and the sound effects... D@MN! Play this alone in the dark by candlelight! As with SH1, the scariest thing is the oppressive atmosphere of dread... what's coming next? My main complaints are: 1) As always, the voice acting is bad (but getting better), and 2) The controls are strange on a PC and take some getting used to! Things might be easier with a USP gamepad, but all the pads available seem to be a junk these days. SH1 was my favorite PS1 game, and this one lives up to the tradition well. In other words, parts of this will make your hair stand straight up! Definitely recommended for those who have a decent computer and actually know how to use it. Bottom line is: I) if you like horror games this one is a winner, and II) if you are writing a review and are stupid/uneducated, for God's sake use spellcheck to avoid looking like a total idiot!

Summary: This game still terrifies me.
Review: I first played this on the PS2 with a friend of mine. I recently bought if for my PC.

First off, I'd recommend a controller similar to a PS2; this game is made for controller based play and won't work as well with the standard keyboard and mouse. Also, pay lots of attention to the technical specifications which (copied directly from the box since Amazon doesn't list them) are as follows:

Minimum System Requirements:
Windows XP/ME/2000/98
1 GHz Pentium III or Athlon processor (or equivalent)
256 MB RAM
GeForce 3 Ti/Radeon 8500 Video Chipset w/32 MB VRAM
DirectX 8.1b (included on CD/DVD)
DirectX 8.1 Compliant sound card
4X CD-ROM or 2X DVD-ROM drive
4.7 GB free hard drive space

Recommended System Requirements
Windows XP/2000
1.4 GHz Pentium 4 or Athlon Processor
512 MB RAM
GeForce4 Ti or GeForce FX graphics cards
8X CD-ROM or 4X DVD-ROM drive
5.2 GB free hard disk space
USB Gamepad controller

Supported video chipsets:
NVIDIA GeForceFX, GeForce4Ti, GeForce3Ti (GeForce MX series not supported) ATI Radeon 9800, 9700, 9600, 9500, 9200, 9100, 9000, 8500 Matrox Parhelia

This game is gorgeous, but you won't see that with the minimum system requirements. If you are a big fan of the series or have been looking for an excuse to upgrade your system but don't have the current specs, this would be a good time to upgrade (most of the new games coming in the next year or so will be of similar requirements). Note that with the recommended system requirements (I'm not sure about the minimum), this game looks just as good as it does on the PS2.

Now, as far as the game is concerned:

The game rocks. It's scary and complex. If you can play this alone in the dark for an extended period of time, you are a braver soul than I. The gameplay is variable in both action and riddle difficulty, so you can enjoy this game regardless of your tastes. The sounds are awesome and terrifying; you can tell a lot of work went into making this game as unsettling as humanly possible without being as disturbing as humanly possible. With several endings the replay value on this game is quite high, especially since some of the gameplay is not linear.

The soundtrack, which is included, has some awesome music on it (along with some of the more usual background music we've all come to know and love) as well as some intriguing dialogue from the game. The soundtrack alone makes this worth buying, since most imported game soundtracks go for nearly as much as you can pay for the whole game.

I should point out that this game comes in both dvd and cd-rom formats. There is no difference in the price between them, but I think amazon only carries the cd-rom version of the game (which is an amazing five discs total). If you want the dvd version, I'd recommend going to the nearest funcoland, babbages, or equivalent gaming store.

At twenty bucks or so, this game is well worth buying and will definitely show you what pc graphics can really do.

Summary: Getting old
Review: I have to say that this game is creepy. It gives my ugly feelings inside. Not scarey, creepy which is just as effective in many respects. However, we've seen the walking through corridors in the dark with a flashlight thing in Silent Hill 2. And those feaky monsters sometimes just make no sense. One of them looks like a nipple with two legs. How about some old fashioned zombies or something? At least the monsters in Silent Hill 2 were somewhat humanoid - like dummy's. If you've never played the series before, start with Silent Hill 2. For ten bucks, this isn't bad at all, but it's less together than the one before it. The monsters are just annoying and the maps are repetitive.

Summary: 4-5 stars
Review: I never give a 5 star review but this game is very close to a 5 star game. YOU WILL JUMP from this game (or maybe twitch). It has a religion based storyline that keeps you wondering what's going to happen next.
You're given a choice in 2D or 3D controls. I recommend 3D controls but other people say that they like 2D. To each his own.
I played it on the easy difficulty and easy puzzle setting and it was actually a little too easy. As you can see, this gives the game replay potential. Play on easy Difficulty but hard puzzles, or hard difficulty with easy puzzles.
Now the tiny little bad side. The monsters are a little repetitious but once you clear a room it's cleared. no respawning of more monsters just cuz you returned. when you start a new chapter, it will introduce a new monster but you'll probably see more of them as the game goes on.
Pick this up and enjoy it multiple times.
