Rating: Summary: Adventure Gaming at its best Review: I've played a good many adventure games in my day, but Grim Fandango ranks above all others. Whereas most games tend to flounder at some point and force you to run around in circles for no good reason, this game sustains its momentum throughout. What makes this most impressive is the fact that this game is relatively huge in terms of its scenes and characters. This is not a game you will play in one day and then stash away at the bottom of the pile. While the ending is a little disappointing in terms of excitement, the task of getting there is consistently fresh and rewarding. Completing the action is a bit of a challenge, as well--I found many of the puzzles to be significantly complex, and I admit I would never have completed the game without the help of some walkthroughs posted on the Web. I would never even have noticed a couple of rooms or locations on my own. I've never excelled at figuring adventure puzzles out, but I am sure that hard-core adventure gamers will find a wonderfully challenging experience playing this game.Other than moments of puzzle complexity, I have nothing negative to say about this game whatsoever. The graphics are top-notch in every single case; the music is wonderful and a great complement to the action; the characters are interesting and fun; and the story holds up pretty well throughout. The characters are unique in the way they are drawn, being inhabitants of the Land of the Dead, but human faces would have been terribly inappropriate. A lot of attention and detail went into every scene, every recorded voice, and the entire musical score. As far as my own experience goes, there are no bugs to be found in the software; the geniuses behind Grim Fandango did not release this game until it was completely finished. LucasArts has done what it does best, creating a world much different from our own but seemingly almost as real and certainly more exciting and enjoyable. I really love this game.
Rating: Summary: LucasArts makes another great game! Review: This game is one of the best games along with the Monkey Island series. The game starts with a dead guy named Manny Calavera who sells travel tickets to people who are dead. This game has decent graphics but the real great thing about this game is the story and fun. The story is really alot deeper than my description. This game is challenging and will take you a while to complete. This game is one of the best. Buy it!
Rating: Summary: It's all true Review: All the good things you've heard about this game are completely true. The art direction, music, voice acting, and general atmosphere come together perfectly to create an incredibly origninal and witty game, and even now, something like four years after it was originally released, it's still tremendous fun to play. If you like adventure games, comedy, jazz music, or if you own a computer, you will not regret paying ten bucks for what is still one of the best adventure games you can get.
Rating: Summary: This game has *everything* Review: Lots of fun, excitement, dramatic moments... this game has all I could possibly ask for in an adventure. Heavy in film noir influence (a misterious dame, a world weary hero, a likeble sidekick), Grim Fandango never drags thru any part of it. The atmosphere is great, the locations well imagined, the background (based on Mexico's Day of the Dead) fits perfectly. The voice acting is superb and there's even a death scene that managed to get a tear out of my eye. I recommend this game to anyone interested in the genre (be it adventure games, film noir, or Lucas Arts games in general).
Rating: Summary: Grim Fandango shows the brighter side of death. Review: After playing the Monkey Island games I thought I would never find another one as fun to play. But I was wrong. Grim Fandango is that game. Just starting off the game is fun and it only gets better. Packed with hundreds of puzzles to propell you through this underworld of limbo and filled with interesting characters at every turn, this is one game you will never be ashamed to own. You are a travel agent to the dead and you are on a mission to expose the corrupt organization yuo work for. Sound hard. Well it's not. It could take you a while to get through and it is a challenge to solve the puzzles that will get you to your goal, but the game is so fun and humorous that the time will just fly by. I have owned this game for a while and I have to say that I love playing it. I have finished it about 4 times and it gets funnier everytime I load it up. If you love funny adventure games in the Monkey Island style, Grim Fandango is the game for you. And it is made by LucasArts...the same company that makes quality games like all the Star Wars line and my personal favorite, Monkey Island. Get this game and see the brighter side of death.
Rating: Summary: fantastic Review: Lots of fun, and quite funny. Makes me wonder why so many other companies don't make fun adventure games anymore.
Rating: Summary: Grim Fandango Review: Grim Fandango jewel case edition is definitely worth your money. The game immediately swallows the player whole with an intriguing story line; colorful, meticulously-designed artwork and characters; superb voice acting; and mood-setting music. You play Manuel Calavera, and there's more beneath the supposed "legitimate" travel agency that you work for in the Land of the Dead that what meets the eye. This travel agency, the Department of the Dead, issues ways of travel for souls to go to the Ninth Heaven. You need a promotion, but it seems that your boss keeps giving your colleague all the premium customers, leaving you with the 2nd rate ones. You must find out what exactly is going on before it's too late... The only bad thing about this game is that it ended too soon! I could not get enough of all the awesome elements of Grim Fandango. It is definitely not one of those games with a thin storyline; the plot in Grim Fandango is deep and enthralling, and the humor definitely spices up the setting. Buy it!
Rating: Summary: A MUST Have for the adventure game lover!!! Review: Alright, where do I begin?! I love this game on so many levels it's hard to decide. I must admit it's probably not a kids game since the puzzles are some where between medium to hard and theres smoking (I hate smoking). Anyway, I play adventure games and flight simulators and I'm very critical in my reviews. This game is great because the main characters pesonality is very realistic and down to earth. He actually seems like a normal guy you might actually meet on the streets... except hes dead... and a skeleton. Anyway, I enjoy writing on the side and I an tell that alot of work was put into the story line. It keeps you guessing while always foreshadowing of whats going to happen next. I found myself enjoying solving the puzzles and playing the game the same way I enjoy a good mystery or adventure book. The music was VERY cool. I actually ended up buying the soundtrack from lucas arts. Shut up! I'm normal! sorta. The puzzles are very well thought out as well but sometimes get a little challenging unless you have the ability to think "out of the box" so-to-speak. The game takes HOURS or more realistically DAYS to finish and that gives you a chance to play it again! Even when your english paper is due the next day and you're out of red bull, but thats okay because you can just skip class and say you're sick unless stupid professor Swells is your neighbor... oh, sorry. Anyway, this game rocks the casba and you should buy it!
Rating: Summary: Its not quite Casablanca, but its close enough for coolness Review: Take a great video game. Pump it full of low key lighting and high contrast dark and light toned colors. You have Grim Fandango, a game that would have been cool enough without all the neat visuals and beautiful music, but that is ultimately made wonderful by the additional time spent on it. This game is deep, involving, and generally a fun time. There's a strategy guide too, in case you need help with some of the sticky spots. ....You will definitely NOT be wasting your time.
Rating: Summary: The best adventure game I've ever played!!! Review: Grim Fandago has everything. Interesting art design. A great plot. Thoughtful puzzles. Fun characters. Nice music. Every adventure game fan should play this one without a doubt!
