Rating: Summary: The best and only STARship simulation out today. Review: To begin, this game rocks! As far as spaceship/fighter simulations, their a dime a dozen, but thier are very few STARship simulations where you take the captain's chair and bark orders to your crew(bark too loud and they'll be Mutiny on the Dauntless). The Graphics are spectatular at 1280x1024 and at 1600x1200, thier is only one glitch(I was aware of), and it's fixable if you change resolutions after saving your mission, your planet orbit and set course text will disappear, just change the resolution back again to what it was at start game. I haven't tried the voice commands yet, I don't have the software, but if you don't mind being labled 'crazy' by your neighbors, it is something to try out and sounds like fun to me(I haven't figured out how to get it to work with SB rec/player) The graphics are excellent, the acting is excellent(Patrick Stewert is your instructor!), but most important of all, the game play is the best of all! Their are a wide variaty of commands for each of your crew. "Disable ship's subsystems" would have been nice. The story(s) are also good, just like in "Judgement Rites". If you like Star Trek, definitly get this game, if you don't like Star Trek but like taking command, get this game as a great starship simulator.
Rating: Summary: Perspective Review: I tried the Demo and was intrigued, but not happy with the rendering of the bridge crew. I purchased the Full version and can say that it's everything I expected and a bit more. Plusses: Absolutely beautiful renderings of starships and stellar sights and sounds. This game provides a different sense of ship to ship combat with large vessels, where position and energy management count. Minuses: An annoying First Officer. Lacks one of Klingon Academy's more interesting features, which is the ability to issue commands (attack, defend, stand-down, etc.) to friendly vessels. You are trapped in the Captain's chair. It would be nice to explore the ship or at least the bridge. Also, it would be nice to have a choice of Bridge Officers with different strengths and weaknesses.
Rating: Summary: Bugs and Boring Review: Full of bugs. Slow to load and save. Becomes very boring after a short period.
Rating: Summary: Based on the Full Version Review: Excellent game so far (I haven't hit the end of it yet, it's actually rather long)..the plot is developing nicely, with some interesting twists (and I still haven't managed to even venture a good guess as to some of the things that are going on, it's good at being mysterious.) The graphics engine is good enough to get the job done, the bridge/characters are it's weakest component, it does really well at rendering the ships during combat. You get some of those cinematic moments where you fire a shot from your rear tubs right into a hole in the hull of a cardaissian ship and watch it blow the ship apart. Speaking of which, the damage modeling is AMAZING, you can literally cut parts of a ship away (which is a rather effective method of destroying a large number of subsystems at once.) Although everything is not 100% canon to the show, it is necessary to make the game balanced and fun. All in all, it's a fun game (which is what really counts, no?) and I highly recommend it to anyone who has always wanted to command a starship.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: I am a big star trek fan but i went into this game with doubts since so many ST games have been flops yet i know Totally games is a great company main reason i bought it this game is great good sound great fun and u get to command a starship im not great at reviews like this but if u like Indepence war or battle cruiser youll like this and if your are star trek fan youll love it
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good so far... Review: I just bought this game and it is really great. I was expecting it to be good since it was made by Totally Games, the company that made a lot of those great Star Wars games. What was really a pleasent surprise was how quickly I was able to learn the user interface. Using the mouse, you interact with the bridge crew: just point to a station and click the mouse. There are 4 Federation ship types that you can command: Sovereign, Akula, Galaxy and another near-Galaxy class sized ship. Just like in Klingon Academy, there is a skirmish mode where you can design your own battles. The only negative is that there is no joystick support that I can determine. The graphics and cutscenes are great.
Rating: Summary: Best of trek Review: Its like an episode with a war.... yeah you are "in command" of a galaxy class ship at first then you can command a soverign. It is a great game but you dont get the feel of the center chair since you seem to over use the tactical chair quite a bit. It is a great game though. Average play time is 20hrs to completion...
Rating: Summary: Great Game! Review: Star Trek Bridge Commander rocks! It has sweet graphics, 16 different playable ships ranging from the Romulan Warbird and the Sovereign-Class to a shuttle(Not powerful, but fun to mess around in). It has three different outcomes, voice activation technology(Not included), and a 700+ page script. Bridge Commander has one of the most flawless multiplayer setups I've ever seen. This game is GREAT! Buy it from a store as soon as you can; the shipping wait is torture.
Rating: Summary: Truly the Best Star Trek Game I Have Ever Played Review: I know it's probably going to become quite a tired phrase among us reviewers, but this truly is the best Star Trek game I have ever played. I'm sure we've all dreamed about sitting in the captain's chair snapping out orders to the rest of our crew, watching them desperately trying to perform their duties while the entire bridge is shaking from enemy disrupter fire, and this game completely delivers on that experience. Combine this game with one of the game voice recognition software packages out there and you have one awesome experience. Besides the combat, the plot of the game is pretty good too, and having Captain Picard and Data not just make cameos in this game but actually serve temporarily as part of your starship's crew or come in the Enterprise-E flying to your side during combat is truly memorable. What are you waiting for? How can you call yourself a true Star Trek fan if you don't desperately want this game or are playing it already?
Rating: Summary: Review of the single player Campaign (Limited in many ways¿) Review: Summary: Very good story by D.C. Fontana. The scripted mission format is quite heavy handed leaving you no real choice but to follow the almost obvious choice always given to you. Information is spoon feed to you and there is real deviation from the singular plot line of the campaign. If you choose to play on the harder campaign levels (captain, admiral) be prepared to listen to the same story line over and over to get back to the point where you failed your last attempt. This gets very old very fast. There is no way to jump over what you have already seen as the scripted dialog can not be bypassed. The single player skirmish mode(quick battle) is fun for a while, but quickly becomes boring since there is no User Interface to change the ship you fly. It can be done by renaming some of the gaming files. This was fine for the demo version but is much needed for the shipping product. Overall the game can be entertaining, just don't expect it to tax your mind that much. Would give it 2.5 stars. Suggest waiting for it to hit the bargin bin. If you want to spend 50+ dollars on something get the Star Trek Movies on DVD. Lets look at each of the Major claims: 1)You are the Captain ". Prepare to face the consequences of your decisions, as you issue orders affecting the course of the game" The game really falls flat here. The missions are highly sequential. You must do A before B and B before C. You are also spoon fed almost all the information you need as you need it. This is not a game where your creative solutions will fit. Either you do the missions as they are scripted and you are spoon fed information or you fail and the whole campaign stops right there. The missions are more like 1st year star fleet cadet missions then anything you saw Picard or Kick do on TV. 2)You have the bridge " Take responsibility for the fate of your ship and your crew, directing maneuvers, giving orders and managing individual stations" Yes and no. You can control each station manually and/or give orders to be carried out, but after playing a short time. You could easily become frustrated with the limited combat (tactical) controls for maneuvering your ship. If you have played a game like Star Fleet Command and are looking for that degree of control, then look elsewhere. However, you want to give are not looking for a high degree of control the controls probably fine. 3)You are in Control "Be prepared to react to a host of offensive and defensive scenarios, including enemy ambushes as well as escort and seek and destroy missions. Master many complex maneuvers including evasion, stealth, pursuit, combat, retrieval and deployment." This sounds much more exciting then the reality of the game. Your options are very limited here by the game controls. The scripted missions put you in a very sequential 'episodic' adventure with few real choices. The missions are very heavy handed in dealing with success or failure. It is almost purely black or white. This is unlike the TV episodes where picard or kirk did not always face clear choices with all the information spoon feed to them. Voice-Activated Technology Did not test this feature Featuring D.C. Fontana There is a fine story here worthy of series we have come to know, but the limits of the mission scripting really take away from any real control of events. You are driven down the plot line and feed just enough information at the right times to really make our choice almost always obvious and there is no real room for the 'creative' solutions you have seen on TV. D.C Fontana has an interesting and engaging story. However the mission format just does not do justice to really being in 'the big chair" Multiplayer Gaming Did not test this feature yet.
