Summary: Not ready for prime time yet...
Review: Unfortunatly the horror stories of glitches and lock-ups for some computers applied for me this time. I got the game to run only by turning everything down to stupid. Even though I downloaded the v1.1 patch, the graphics effects never did materialize and although I could see the potential behind the poor performance, nothing I could do would bring it to life. I have a P-III 800mhz with 256k ram, Rage Furry Max 128 video card, Sound Blaster and 32x CD ROM - not good enough I guess. I also disliked their suggested "Ctrl-Alt-Delete-turn all the background programs off" hassle ( which did no good ) and will wait to see if the up comming patches address this unstable program's bugs. Operation Flashpoint worked fine right out of the box and so should this one.

Summary: Battlefield 1942 - The Pearl Harbor of War Games
Review: I find it interesting that Amazon had a bunch of negative reviews for this game. Now there are none. Where'd they go? Anyway, this is a terrible game. I have a 2.2 MhZ, 1024 Meg RAM, Radeon 8500, AND the patches and still the game drops out or freezes on me, even on the lowest settings. Graphics are marginal. A few things like the vehicles or buildings are OK but where are the jungles. What I hate is having to drive everywhere through open fields. It takes such a long time to find anyone to fight. Even then, it isn't fair because they appear out of nowhere, then you see a bullet flying towards you and then you're dead. Save your money and buy Medal of Honor instead. Battlefield 1942 is not even in the same class.

Summary: Excellent Carnage Potential
Review: Battlefield 1942 does not do anything revolutionary, but it does nearly everything that previous war-themed FPS games have done, except better. It is an excellent example of the fantastic possibilities that are presented in multiplayer for broadband users, in number of players, the addition of complex vehicles, and the complexity of play. However, it lacks in accessibility and realism, and so falls short of greatness. But it is still undeniably fun.

What sold me on 1942 (even before I saw screenshots) was the potential to have 64 people playing simultaenously, with a large number of vehicles of every sort in use. While this does not happen often, I have played in one or two 64-person games which were intense and full of carnage. I can do this, because I have a brand-new computer, 2.4 ghz, and am connected to a University network. Many people cannot, unfortunately, so such huge games are rare. But the game is just as enjoyable with 32 players, which appears to be the norm on most servers.

Once I actually got to sit down and fool around with 1942, I found the vehicles to be the best-engineered part of the game. The controls are intuitive and the scripting is solid, I have yet to see a major bug or flaw pop up in a game. Ships beach when you get them too close to shore, Jeeps roll over if you take corners too sharply, and explode if you ram into a tree at full throttle. The planes, which I adore, take some getting used to, but they are fantastically useful, and expand the game significantly. The static defenses, too, are useful and can be destroyed in most cases.

There are five 'kits' in Battlefield for soldiers on each side to pick from, differing only slightly between the Allies and Axis. With so many vehicles in the mix, using the kits in harmony with them is key to engineering a solid team strategy. The radio is fairly well done, allowing communication between team members to usually take place with only two keystrokes and an indicator on the smoothly-wrought minimap. These elements make numerous tactics possible.

Battlefield 1942 is NOT Operation Flashpoint. Soldiers can take a hell of a lot of abuse before they drop, so that you may find yourself spraying bullets at fairly short range to no avail. Also, the environment is fairly static. You cannot destroy vegetation or buildings.

Finally, the single-player mode serves as little but an introduction to multiplayer. This game exists only for multiplayer. If you don't have broadband, forget it. But otherwise, enjoy what is one of the best examples of multiplayer World War Two simulation on the market.

Summary: amazing
Review: fight a war from either the axis or allied perspective. About 20 missions, that can be played as a campaign but missions are in different orders each time. fight the war as anti-tank, infantry, mechanic, sniper, medic, pilot aircraft, ships, tanks, and jeeps.

Graphics are very well done. A lot of fun and well worth [amt].
One feature i enjoy a lot is the multiplayer feature. Over 1000 people play daily with one another of the internet.

Summary: This Game Is Great!
Review: I really love this game, its the perfect combination or Counter-Strike and the Tribes series, with giant maps, and massaive multiplayer games that go up to 64 players. The only drawback to this game is long load times, on my 1.5 ghz 384 mb RAM cpu. But if you are willing to wait through the long load times, and have a good sized amount of RAM, then I reccommend getting this game, because it's fun and I play it everyday.

Summary: What a game!
Review: Battlefield 1942 picks up where Tribes 2 left off in terms of gameplay, offering fast paced multiplayer action with air, land, and sea vehicles. But 1942 is far better than Tribes2, offering a clearer concept of combined arms, and set in world war 2 rather than a science fiction universe.

Never has the Rock Paper Scissors of combined arms been presented in such a fun and realistic manner. Not only must the player choose a class with strengths and weaknesses, he must also decide whether to be infantry, a driver, a pilot, a gunner, etc. Each role demands other roles for support. This is truly a game of teamwork, and a visceral movie-like glimpse into the birth of combined arms.

The graphics are beautiful and the gameplay is excellent over a fast internet connection. Make sure you have that, and a good computer, before buying this game. Do not buy this game for the single player. The single player opponents are stupid and annoying and you are better off swallowing your fear and diving straight into multiplayer. As a multiplayer game, Battlefield 1942 is without peer.

Summary: ..., this game is good
Review: ok first off, half of these people complaining about lock ups and stuff like that shouldn't even be alloud to review... ok we don't wanna hear that the game can't handle your pentium 2 with a voodoo card and all that ... this is only for people who play the FULL version game... seriously... its like giving a review to a book you never read...

ok, now to the real review..
this game has many diffrent choices on what you want to do, you could be a medic, engineer, assult etc.. and you have a big variaty on what viehicals you want to go in (if you even want to) and its a hell of a lot of fun trying to capture all the outposts, or have a great dog fight...

Good-
Big variaty of viehicals
diffrent modes of play
can have axis or allied weapons\ spawn points
a great clan base game

Bad-
Can get kind of boring sometimes
takes a bit to load (a good 30-50 seconds)
there can be alot of ... people in the game.. (TKs)

and all those people who say get medal of honor... well i have that game too.. but i don't think its as good (some times its the BEST) but in medal of honor there are alot of ... who use shotguns and Rocket launchers which totaly take the fun out.. and you can't drive in tanks or anything.. and in medal of honor not too many maps to play..

i suggest getting this game when the price drops, its very fun...

and for the people who said they couldn't find the patch and all that ... well you guys ... i found the patch and downloaded it in like a minute while you guys spend all day looking for the link that says "patch" on their website...

Summary: Great concept, needs a little fine tuning
Review: I've played the single player and mulitplayer demos, and both are really fun and addicting. The single player works almost flawlessly, except for the fact that the AI is kinda stupid when on foot. But the multiplayer needs a little work. It takes me about 5 tries to get into a server without crashing or disconnecting, and when I do get in, most servers lag so badly I have to leave. Occasionally I'll get into a good server with minimal lag. Another problem is it's almost impossible to kill someone without a high-explosive weapon like grenades or bazookas. I've unloaded 3 clips from a thompson into someone and they still didn't die. The airplane controlls get a little sketchy sometimes as well. Overall, if EA manages to fix these bugs, BF1942 would be a must-buy.
