Summary: Great Fun
Review: When I first purchased Counter-Strike I was a little dismayed at the learning curve. Unlike in other first person shooters, when you are killed in Counter-Strike you stay dead until the round is over, forced to watch the living players battle it out. This can be very frustrating for a beginning player, as most of their time will be spent like this. I'm sure it varies greatly, but I found it was about a month before I was spending more time alive than dead. This may sound like a prohibitive time commitment, but what you have to understand is how addictive this game is. For several months after getting it Counter-Strike dominated my free time. Even when I was doing other things, my mind would wander to rescuing hostages and planting bombs. This game gets you involved in way I'd never experienced before. When you win you are ecstatic, when you loose you are angry. But whether angry or happy, when you are playing you are totally immersed. This is partially a function of the good graphics, but mostly of the dynamic surround sound. Every footstep could be an approaching enemy or an ally come to save you. Every gunshot helps you find your camouflaged targets (unless they have silencers). The game does of course have a few drawbacks. Foremost among these are the length load times. You pick a server to log onto and then have to wait a minute or so before you can join the fray. Even in between levels expect to spend a good 45 seconds staring at the scoreboard while the next map loads. Another minor issue is the friendliness of some of the players. Due to the games intensity players can get very mad and the dialogue can quickly turn into vulgar flames. This said, most of the players, if not overly helpful to beginners, will at least give you time and space to learn the ropes. Overall I would give this game four and a half stars. For the whole star rating system I rounded up because in my mind the game's shear addictiveness outweighs any of its flaws. But I will end with a warning. If you do not have lots of time to put into a computer game don't buy Counter-Strike. After you start, there is no quitting.

Summary: It's like an addicting drug...
Review: Counter-Strike has successfully taken all of my spare time away. I dream about it at times...yeah, scary. But the truth of the matter is that previous posts are way too true. The game is way too addictive and can cause marital problems, or it could help a marriage if you both play. If you don't want to buy it it is a free download at ... but getting it on CD may be alot faster since the game is about 80+ MB. Plus you get all the other good online games. You won't be playing much of those however, I promise. Counter-Strike is all you will ever need in an online shooter. I even gave up my Ultima Online subscription, I just can't stop playing this game. It's true teamplay and none of that mindless deathmatch garbage. BUY IT! or download it, just get it.

Summary: I dare you to stop playing
Review: I have been playing games for 25 years, and working in the games industry for 5 yrs. I have played almost every computer and video game. But I have NEVER found a game more addictive than this. Please don't get frustrated the first time, it is a game that requires a totally different mid-set than a Quake III or even a Rainbow 6. You must use communication, your teammates, your eyes, your ears, everything. No other game gets my heart going like this one. You will know sheer adrenaline when you are the only member in your team and you must disarm a bomb and there are 3 guys out there gunning for YOU! Knowing that all of your team mates are watching after they die makes it even more exiting! GET THIS GAME RIGHT NOW, and I dare you to stop playing!

Summary: Very Addictive
Review: First, I did not buy this retail version since I already own Half-Life; I dwonloased Counter-strike off the internet and from what I have been seeing on various BB's, there are only minor functional differences. Anyway, the game tries to be realistic in pitting Terroists against counter-terroists in a variety of sceneriors. The weapons are based on real weapons and are the coolest part of the game. You can unload with a large machine-gun, or stand off a bit, zoom in, and snipe people with your sniper rifle (one shot, one kill). However, you have to save up money to buy the better weapons. Unlike most FPS games, if you die, you have to wait until the mission is accomplished, (which is usually no more than 2 minutes, assuming you die early); you do not respawn immediatly upon death. This can be frustrating but adds to the addictivness of the game as you plot your vengence. The graphics are average since it relies on older technology, the Quake II engine, but are adequate. (Aside: I hope the developers use the new graphics engine coming out by the makers of Unreal). Finally, the community of internet players is widely developed and it is one of the most played games over the internet. This is a very fun, very addictive game.

Review: MY friend told me about this game abotu a month ago. I used to play tribes, Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, name it i played it. I have barely played any of those games since. CS is totally awesome. I just ordered CS full and hoep to get it soon so i can start playing. You HAVE to buy this game, even if your jsut thinking about it, BUY it. Your gonna love it if you liked basically any game like Rainbow Six. BOTTOM LINE: BUY IT IT'S WORTH 30, EVEN 40 OR 50 BUCKS!

Summary: Best Half-Life Mod
Review: Well, like I said, it is the best Half-Life Mod. But don't buy it, download it. The only reason I would buy this game is if I had a slow connection like a 56k modem. Even then, gameplay is going to be a little bit choppy and you are going to be at a slight disadvantage to the rest of us with cable and DSL service. But back to the game, It has a very innovative idea being once you die, you are dead (for that round). Rounds usually last around 5 minutes or until everyone from one team dies. Speaking of teams, there are two of them, terrorists and special forces teams (like Rainbow Six). Unfortunately there is only one type of gameplay though, cops rescue hostages. That is it. I like the game as a whole but if you haven't been playing it for the last year then you are going to get tore up by those of us who have been playing. Review: And they said Half-Life was game of the year...obviously they havent played this- undoubtably the BEST online game available...even if you dont like FPSs I still suggest you try this..with 21 incredibly realistic guns,3 different grenade types and about 8 special items in this game,you won't be able to put it down. Every little detail has been configured to perfection,you can even see the bullets come out of the gun after shot and you can see them on the ground (for a few seconds anyway). At first,I thought CS was crap. I played TFC,and then when I actually PLAYED CS and I realised why its the most played online game EVER. The only thing that would make this game better is if it were topped with cheese,and even then it couldn't get much better.

Review: This is one of the best games i have played in a long time. If you like FPS (first person shooters) you will love this game. It was origianly a mod for 1998 game of the year Half-Life another great game. This is a realistic game where you win rounds and earn money. You get an amount of money for everything kill an enemy get some money, kill a teammate lose some money, rescue a hostage get some money, kill a hostage lose some money. This game is NOT a Death Match i repeat NOT a deathmatch so dont be expecting a Deathmatch... may be a bit innapropriate for younger children like under 12.
