Summary: The most realistic game play
Review: This is a living legend so to speak. With its amazing gameplay, to the near realistic actions this game blows others away. The best part and most realistic is when you incounter an exploding shell and get shell-shock which i was not expecting. A great first-person-shooter that puts the trueness of D-Day and WWII, i was sweating in one of the levels at every turn hoping there were no "Jerries" around the corner. The best game of the year and the best first-person-shooter ever.

Summary: BEST GAME EVER
Review: I was so impressed with this game. i thought it wpould be another Medal of Honor but it wasn't. If you have any love of action, FPS games, you shuold go and buy this game right now! You see, it all started when I downloaded the demo level at www.nvidia.com. Right when I started playing it I was blown away. The garaphics are SO good. Better than Halo!!! The game play is amazing. The AI is PERFECT. If your fellow allied troops see a tank, they will jump on top of it, open the hatch(while shooting) and they will lob a few grenades inside. AMAZING. And if the nazis get too close, your men will take out combat knifes and knife em; from behind. And every time a man is killed, their body stays there. So there is Bodys everywhere!
There is even a "matrix" feature. When your health drops drastically, everything around you will go in slow motion, and your heart will beat loudly. This is not a game for the faint of heart(blood, knifes, bodies everywhere), but if you are looking for a cinematic expeireance of graphics, sound, gameplay, and heroism, BUY THIS GAME NOW.( or download the demo)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Tribute to Medal of Honor or a simple clone?
Review: Call of duty has great graphics, tank battles, mad charges of enemy gun implacements and players have lots of weapons from which to choose; just like the Medal of Honor games.

In fact, I can't see any real difference between the two games, and that is sort of a good thing since Medal of Honor is such a great game. You do get your money's worth buying Call of Duty, it held my interest during the duration of the game even though there is nothing really new or different in it.

Summary: Some battles in WW II were not as long
Review: As I continue to try and load this crummy software on a brand new Dell series 2400, I am continually amazed by the ignorance and the arrogance of the people who write and design today's computer software. They remind me of the people I work with: always trying to show that somehow they are smarter than all the rest of us. In 20 years of PC use of all types and brands both hardware and software this is the first time that I have not been able to get a lousy PC game loaded and able to use. Activison's Call of Duty should be fire the A** H**** who worked on this project. When you load a piece of software today most of the job can be just following the instructions. Well I have followed the instructions and I have been asked to put CD #1 in then CD #2 in and finish the installation. Then it says you have
the wrong CD in the drive, then the other is placed in and guess what, that is the wrong one and around and around we go! I suppose there is something embedded so that people cannot copy their precious software and spread it all over town, Well brother, you couldn't give this one away!

Summary: So much better than MoH
Review: Now if you want to have have some WWII kicking-derriere fun, that's what you need.
Fans of 1st person shooting who liked MoH, this one's for you: more action speed (just try to shoot out of a car window!), more real sound ambiance that makes you jump and dive to avoid bullets.
And the graphics!
All of this with a great easy-to-master gameplay.
Great game!

Summary: Fun game overall, but multiplayer is imbalanced
Review: I won't go into the many merits of this game, which are well covered in other reviews. Flat out, it's the best single player FPS game I've ever played, genre notwithstanding. It's all in the details, which were lovingly crafted and polished for ultimate gameplay, atmosphere, and feel. Wonderfully cinematic.

I'm not completely knocking multiplayer -- it is cathartically fun -- but I have to comment on where it falls short. With a little bit of tweaking, it could be much better.

Here are my nitpicks:

1. Allied players, especially the Americans and Russians, have a distinct advantage over the Axis players through varied and superior firepower. The dated WWI-era Thompson SMG is the default small arm of choice for the Americans, and, oddly, it's deadly accurate at long range (although it's described in the game text and well known among military historians as being notoriously inaccurate) and takes about 1.3 seconds to reload during play (while on the run yet), as opposed to the comparable Axis SMG, the MP44, which takes at *least* twice as long. Why? Also, both guns are roughly equal weight in real life, yet American players are able to run and bound smoothly with the Thompson through any map/terrain like greased gazelles with their butts on fire. Conversely, German players carrying the MP44 poke along clumsily like Rush Limbaugh after Thanksgiving dinner and get caught on every door and window jamb they pass.

2. The MP44, one of the best designed SMGs in WWII bar none, is exasperatingly weak and inaccurate in CoD. On many occasions I had to empty an entire clip to down a foe at close range, whereas the Thompson SMG or .45 ACP knocked me over in one or two shots like I was an inflatable stand-in. The Thompson's large .45 caliber cartridge should give the gun a much steeper muzzle climb than the MP44, but it doesn't. Hardly any is noticeable.

3. The Russian PPsH SMG is ridiculously powerful compared to the MP40 or MP44. Yes, I know each drum held a whopping 71 rounds in real life and the gun was oddly reliable for being a Russian small arm, but the game still needs balance for proper gameplay. I suggest having it take longer to reload, which is realistic; drum magazines are notoriously cumbersome and finicky to load properly.

4. My biggest complaint about multiplayer game mechanics is how random runners and shooters have an enormous advantage over prone and covered players. I know these "campers" are viewed with general disdain, but think about it: did soldiers run and dance around like epileptic madmen firing randomly during combat? Neg. They sat still and took cover, only moving when necessary, and it's obvious why. It's a WWII FPS simulation; it shouldn't be played like DOOM or Quake gore-fests. One should be able to use tactics for survival and victory, yet the players with the best kill ratios are those that tape down the Move Forward key and just run around randomly at full speed, shooting like postal workers on crank. And accuracy should decline markedly while running, but it definitely doesn't in CoD -- while playing an Allied player, I can pick off a hidden German sniper at 100 yards using a Thompson on full auto while hurdling rubble and dead bodies.

5. Suggestions to the designers for future mods or sequels: Add fatigue. Keep players from just running around constantly. Also, it'd be cool to have the console option of occasional weapon jams, just like reality. And adding weather would be interesting too.

6. Finally, offering friendly fire as a multiplayer option is ludicrous. There's ALWAYS at LEAST one a-hole who enjoys shooting his own players, or worse yet, it offers the opportunity for an opposing player to leave his original side and join yours to kill you and your compadres to help his team. Toss it.

Summary: Is as much art as it is entertainment.
Review: This game is beautiful for what it is: a deeply immersive, single-player focused, interactive WW2 movie that is gorgeous to look at.

Considering this game has been out for close to a year now, I would not recommend to players with top of the line systems that prefer multi-player over single. For that class, I'd recommend looking into more contemporary First Person Shooters like Battlefield 1942 (despite it's age, the mod-community is more vibrant and certain mods like "Desert Combat" push the envelope of todays newer technology) or the "latest greatest" in single player PC games..."Far Cry". Those two games (in my humble opinion) offer the best in the First Person Shooter class of games available today.

But then again, you could wait for Doom 3 or Half Life 2. Of course both of those have been "coming soon" for a year now...

However, for those of you that enjoy single-player WW2 games, this is a must have. I completed the game in just 8 hours, but what a heart pounding and thoroughly enjoyable time that was. Like I said earlier, the graphics are (still) amazing, the lighting and particle effects (a tweaked Quake 3 engine) are excellent, the storyline is best of class, and the AI (ally and enemy) are superb.

Hope this was helpful.

Summary: A must buy
Review: One of the best WWII FPS games on the market as of now. I am not going to tell you about Single Player, this is solely because, I have only completed 4 missions. I have owned the game for about 2 months now and I still play it like a mad man. After trying Multiplayer I forgot all about Single Player to be honest. The game has great graphics and great sound. You actually feel like you are in war. The added "look-down-the-sight" perspective was a great plus also. Although there are limited online maps, there are more on their way.

Also, there are very simple controls, just the WASD config with Q and E to lean. It takes getting used to using Cntrl for Prone, C for Crouch and Space to jump. But you can customize all those inside.

I give this game 4 stars, while not the best game I have ever played, it is still a great game and well worth the 49.99, or less here on Amazon.

A word to the wise, make sure your PC fits the System Requirements, I bought this game with an old Diamond Viper 770 and had to upgrade to a Chaintech nVidia GEForce FX5200. It run's fine now.

Summary: Made me feel like I was there!! Loved it.
Review: As many of you already realize there there is no shortage of FPS these days. Fortunately this one has managed to set itself apart from the other FPS (excluding Halo), that have saturated this genere.

Call of Duty takes place during WW2. Depending on the level your on, you are either an American,British or Russian soliders in an army. Unlike many other FPS's where you are basically a "Rambo" type, Call of Duty instead does a good job in making you just another person in the army. There are some few levels where you are on your own, but for the most part its you and the army fighting together.

The graphics on this game is nothing that is earth shattering, but they do however do a very good job into capturing the WW2 feel. Just playing the first few levels, it is easy to get caught up in your surrounding and actually think you somehow travelled back in time and ended up in the 1940's fighting in WW2. I espeically loved the Stalengrad level and also the level where you are fighting in the trenches. I even enjoyed the "training" level in which a quartermaster is barking orders to you while you complete tasks in a very realistic looking training course.

The sound in this game also does a very good job in successfully capturing the overall "war" feel. To really appreciate the sound, you must have your speakers turned up a notch. It was kind of scary running through the fields and having mortars blowing up all around me. The gun shots, mortars hiting the ground around you and voice acting all contribute to an enjoyable experience.

The overall game play was also done very well. The controls are almost indentical to most other FPS's. But this in no way affect the gameplay. Unlike other FPS however where you can carry at least 9 large guns, here you can only carry what a real human can feasibly carry at one time, this consists of a large gun, a sidearm, and some grenades. There are always weapons available, but you must drop your weapon before picking up a new one. You can also pick up your enemies weapons, or your fallen comrades weapons, so there is usually not shortage of ammo or weapons in most cases.

Overall I really enjoyed this game, and plan to play it again. The level do get a bit tedious and boring near the middle of the game, but the last levels more than make up for it. This game is extremely fun an addictive, if you ever dreamed of fighting in a war without running the risk of getting shot or killed, then this game is probally the closest your going to be able to get.

Summary: U.S. soldiers died for this?
Review: I's still shocked and horrified that games like this are still making money. Are they ever going to make a Schindler's List game. They already made ones on Vietnam and Desert Storm (Odd that the sequel appeared BEFORE the second gulf war, do they have soldiers die from roadside bombs or panic killings at check points yet?) and so on but this is just trashy 'Greatest Generation' banter that's overstuffed uber-patriotic garbage. When is this going to stop!?
First off, most of this is too much a carbon copy of war movies like 'Saving Pvt. Ryan', A Bridge too far, and Enemy at the Gates.' and its more than obvious they did no research while making this movie. Granted, it may seem trivial to have an actual historian work on a video game but it serves the point that its just propaganda trying to cash in on a country of wannabe generals.
Second, the Russian sequence is by far the worst, it plays frame for frame 'Enemy at the Gates' with no real variation. Besides, the Russians didn't shoot small squads retreating from a bad charge, they just shot deserters trying to leave the area of combat, it's highly over-exagerrated. Also note that commissars gave warning shots up in the air before training weapons on their own soldiers giving them an ultimatum. In total 10-15,000 died in such a fashion compared to the 20 million the Germans killed.
Not to say that's the only area of crap, the British segment where two guys take out an entire German destroyer just wretched. When the hell did that ever happen? Oh, and then they whisk away in a plane smack in german territory with no resistence?
In conclusion its no better than any of those lame contra games where one man takes out an entire army but worse it profits from the sacrifice of veterans, pfeh.
