Rating: Summary: Awesome But E3 Review: ....all the e3 demo was for is to show that they have a working engine and even in it's pre-release state that it is working very good, not to mention that even the demo is scary... So just pay the for a new mobo, vid card, and processor..then wait...becuase i know you will love it.
Rating: Summary: Doom ]I[ Review: Despite what other people say, the alpha demo has quite a ways to go, before I can call it good. I have played the game (on the recommended hardware), and I can say that although the physics, lighting, and mesh reduced bump maps are nice little visual elements, graphically the characters still have a way to go. Its like for some reason organic beings all revolve around a grey mushy color in this game. I expected more demonic looking characters. I don't want this to be a resident evil look alike (zombies are nice, but hell is taking over mars, lets get some demons in here). And all the zombies look like prison inmates, what gives?Also, the sound effects (done by Trent Reznor of course) are very smooth and fit in perfectly with the game, but at least as far as the demo goes there are some syncing issues. And the character animations, although very fluid, were overexaggerated greatly, and quite a bit could be taught to iD about cinematic camera angles. Also, the complete lack of outdoor portals makes the world feel very small and enclosed. It does not lead as much to your sense of exploration as you know the next room will just be another room with zombies in it, that looked a lot like the room before it. Finally, the most annoying aspect of the demo so far is they don't compile their md5meshes, materials, or animations, so the game takes up quite a bit of space and load times are very subpar (also, the game does not appear to precache monster meshes or anything, so it loads on demand the animations, sounds, etc. which can cause random annoying lags in the game depending on your storage medium). Overall, this is the best first person shooter I've seen (with emphasis on the seen), and I love the doom games (they really struck a chord with me). But as it is prealpha, I cannot construct a positive or negative attitude about the game itself (just about the engine). The engine I give a 4. Its a nice prealpha test, but the engine does have a few steps to hurdle before it can be set atop Mt. Olympus. And the game itself needs a little more artistic help.
Rating: Summary: Seamless Review: This is an unbelievable collaberation of fear and technological prowess. Though it's highly likely that only the top-of-the-line systems will be able to run this mammoth of a game, I suspect that any true Doom fan will, with great zeal, shell out the funds required. Dead bodies do not mysteriously vanish from the scene, as they do in EVERY other FPS. In fact, when you walk over a dead body, it displays movement as your feet make contact with it, which is, despite all the other games that lack this feature, appropriate. Carmack's obsession with perfection and detail is nothing short of astounding. Boxes and items move accordingly when shot. Zombies that are shot in the head... really are shot in the head. Steam hisses, machines emit realistic "hums," and monitors give off faint glows, more often than not the only refuge of light one can find. This game is dark. It is realistic. It is gruesome. As I played the "Leak," I needed to center myself on my seat several times. The former humans grumble eerily, speaking incoherent slurs, and the larger creatures give off an overwhelming aura; a feeling of dread that makes you want to delay your encounter for as long as you can. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Doom III is going to be to this modern generation what the original Doom was to the older: Revolutionary.
Rating: Summary: DOOM III will not dissapoint. Review: I have been into the id software games since Wolf 3D came out. I was fortunate enough to be in the press and get an alpha version of the original DOOM as well as be able to go to the id Facility in Texas and do a story on them when they were working on DOOM 2. If the technology evolution is anything like the jump from DOOM to QUAKE to QUAKE II to Q3A to RTCW, DOOM III could be the single most important game to come out this year. Regardless of the hype, I'm sure it will be the motivator to buy or build a new computer ... I know I did. The system I've built was strictly for playing DOOM 3 and games based on that engine. It will be worth the investment. I can't wait.... DG
Rating: Summary: The Alpha Leak was just short of 'God Like'.... Review: The Graphics are to die for... The monsters are so ... well MONSTERS!... ID has done it again... (and I'm just talking about the 3 levels in the alpha, the full game is going to be amazing) No Other FPS game comes close... there are so many realistic properties that have been added... (ie. when you get mauled by a monster... your view is abruptly adjusted acordingly...) Some Monsters when killed "Slide Down Stairs" and can me kicked/pushed around the room... some monsters crawl very fast and leap 15 feet... causing even a trained VET to loose his cool... What else can I say.... "It's Just So Beautiful!"...
Rating: Summary: resurected Review: I was only a little kid back in the day when the original doom stunned the nation, and i have been playing this game for 10 years. There were certin qualities doom had to it that kept me playing; incrdible gameplay, suspense, adventurous murder, and the sheer scope of hell. doom 2 was just a generic version of the original with some improvments, but this is the game ive been waiting for scince i was 6.
Rating: Summary: Computers for doom 3 Review: Doom 3 as said above is a very new level of games. A g-force3 at least will run it, but will lag. there are 3 main things you need to worry about. prossesser speed which you can only get so high on because of your other componets (motherboard, os, ext.) memory and video card i reccommend a radon 9700 but thats me if you cant upgrade i reccomend getting a new one made for gameing there are two companies i reccomend [computer company] adn [computer company] [[computer company]is better known but i have a friend who has one and doesent like the name branded in the side and the tech support [computer company]is lesser known and i discovered by accedent. I bought one and love it and the tech support + you can coustimise it. your choice reputation or quality.
Rating: Summary: Well i've played the Alpha... Review: ...and anyone who says this is just an engine showcase obviously hasnt. There is a real atmosphere to the game, tension that few games manage, possibly half-life managed it. What can i say about the graphics that hasnt been said before... they really take things to a new level of realism, bordering on photo realism at times.
Rating: Summary: looks great Review: i agree with the gamer that i think posted on december 12th? doom 3 will be a very punishing game. all u ppl with dells,hp,compaq, and those other big manufacturers are probly going to have to upgrade your vid cards, maybe your processor,and get more and faster ram. the manufacturers are notorious about trying to give you junky, way outdated geforce 2 and geforce 4 mx cards to lower the price of your computer. invest, if u can, into a geforce 4 ti card or one of the different 9700 cards. im waitin for nv30, "geforce fx" or ati's coming card, "r350". I just finished my new computer, a p4 2.4 overclocked to 2.9, 256mb of ddr333 overclocked to ddr400 levels, a geforce 4 ti at311core/545memory. Ill just pop in a new vid card and another 512mb of ram when doom 3 comes out, I want to be able to take full advantage of doom3s great graphics(although very taxing)engine. I agree, i dont want to be looking around for keys or passcodes in a game like this, ill do that kind of sneak-up special ops work in a game like splinter cell or soldier of fortune 2. grab urself a nice 5.1 system for this game, thatll be real nice. just get a job and u can afford it. AND WHATS THIS THIS ABOUT A LIMIT OF 4 IN MULTIPALYER?!?!?!?!?!? i hope its just hype and the game would support like 16 players.
Rating: Summary: A little worried Review: Now let me state, that this is a good game on the most part. I have played the Alpha and things have really been strolling along on the game. I have a few concerns, although. But let me start with the good things: This game is following the story of the original Doom The graphics and sound are INCREDIBLE Besides that, there really isn't any much else. This game is more like a demo showing off a new graphics engine than a full new game. To start, it has the same boring gameplay as the original doom. Get real! FPSs have changed a lot since 1996! People don't want to go searching for keys anymore! We don't want to type in pass codes! This game should really be called Doom: Revised. If they didn't base the game off of the original doom, they would have had a lot more flexability for making the game true to the times. But because of that, they can't do it now. Another complaint is that the multiplayer is only going to support four players. I couldn't believe I heard correctly when I was told this. 4 PLAYERS?! I mean, comon, you have to be kidding me! FPS games are supposed to have good multiplayer, and four players is not going to cut it! If they want you to have only four players in a multiplayer game, its like having a 10 player match in Unreal Tournament. It just can't happen! Multiplayer servers are supposed to sport large player capacities, and if Doom 3 (or should I say: Doom: Revised) cannot even support a good ammount of players per server, what is that going to say about other games using this engine? Quake 4 is going to come out with this graphics engine. Does this mean that we can only have four players in our deathmatch games in Quake 4? I will go mad if I have to have a match against ONLY 4 PEOPLE in a server of quake. Quake is KNOWN for its extreme deathmatch games. I would not tollerate 4 player games. To conclude, this is a must have for any doom fan. But it really needs some work. We don't want key searches in single player, and we want A LOT MORE players than 4 per multiplayer server. ~Andrew
