Rating: Summary: An amazing game from someone who actually bought it Review: Unlike some folks who wrote their review based on a review, I bought this game a few days ago and wow. First it's packaged on 5 cds... so it took a while to install, which isn't a bad thing, it just made my anticipation continue to mount. The install went smoothly (albeit slowly) and then it was time to play - before I started it up tho, just to be sure, I searched for (and found) a patch for the game. Install the patch, it makes multiplayer a possibility.I booted up the game for the first time and it runs its auto-config thing, detecting my hardware and whathave you to provide for me the best experience it can manage. Slightly dissappointed and slightly awed that my system only warrented an overall "Medium" across the board, I started it up. Real quick - my system is a Athlon 2.1 Ghz processor, just overa gig of RAM, and a Radeon 9600XT for graphics. Even with things set on Medium the game looked great. But how did it play? Very well. The AI is everything that people said it was... these guys are smart and they are after your blood. You can go full assault if you like, but don't be suprised if they've set up an ambush for you because they heard you creeping earlier. They throw grenades if they THINK they know where you are but deem it too dangerous to assault, the react to your fire in ways other then rushing you. In fact, they're downright clever - I had one merc dash out in front of me, strafe sideways, shooting the whole time... meanwhile his buddy is creeping up on the right of me to lay down some lead. Personal preferance note - the machete is way cool - finally a melee weapon in one of these games that makes sense... When you run up and whack someone with this vicious blade, odds are they're going to die in 2 hits, if not 1 solid one up top. Graphics - STUNNING!! Amazing looking tropical island with an exceptionally large draw distance which creates a REALLY open feel when you're outdoors. The exterior terrain is lush and filled with trees, bushes, high grass... all these things you can use to help keep you hidden. And if you creep along in the tall stuff, you can sneak right on past your adversaries. I like that. The graphics again are amazing and I'm not sure I can say enough good things about them. When you zoom up close on the merc you're about ready to peg with the sniper rifle, the level of detail... it's very very nice. Overall - if you can't tell from the rest of the review, i thoroughly enjoy the game - with it's interesting storyline, it's amazing gameplay and phenomenal graphics... it is the best game, hands down, that i've purchased in some time.
Rating: Summary: Crap Review: Idiot demo won't even accept my custom key mapping. It doesn't even accept my right mouse click as a backward move. If the demo is like this, then why should I buy the game? Stupid game for sure.
Rating: Summary: Constantly freezes Review: A waste of money. Freezes constantly, even with 512 Ram, a Geforce 5200 video card and the settings at "Low". This is the second Ubisoft game I've bought that's like this. Also, go to their forums and you'll see more of the same. The game has just been released and they arleady have to release a patch.
Rating: Summary: Far Cry Rocks Review: I love Far Cry. It's a great game, but I would recomend having a nice system.. I hate it when games get bad reviews because they don't play good on bad systems. These new games require a lot of power. GET MORE RAM !!!!!!! My System GA -7NNXP AMD 2800+ 2GB DDR 400 RAM ATI RADEON 9700+ 22in LCD
Rating: Summary: Best single player since Half-Life??? Nope. Review: This game is a "Far Cry" from perfect, har-har-har. Stupid puns aside, this game is a real mixed bag. I enjoyed some of it, using the sniper rifle, the large (REALLY large) game environments and the choice of weapons. This game's main claim to fame is the cleverness of the enemy AI and the graphics. Yes, the bad guys don't just stand there and let you shoot them, they work together and come after you when the shooting starts. This is a good thing. Riding in the Dune Buggy was cool too. The graphics? Pretty nice most of the time but I noticed one particularly annoying glitch: when you shoot at somebody, the blast and the bullet hits are not "synched-up" to your target. It looks like the bullet stopped right in front of you. Weird..
Rating: Summary: Critic's Are Wrong Review: Anyone that says that this game is absolutly rubbish because of the game crashing and it plays terribly havent figured out that just because it doesnt work for you and it wont play fine for you it might play well for others and have a much better computer. I am running it on a 1.54 GHz, 256 MB RAM and a Radeon 9600 256MB graphics card and it plays amazing on high with a resolution of 800 X 600 and i know these specs arent top notch but the fact is you dont need an amazing pc to still enjoy an amazing game.
Rating: Summary: Excelent! Review: This game is so great. On my PC, the game runs flawlessly. But hey, im a comp guy, thats my job: keep stuff running well. Anyway, the story is wonderful, the physics are the best i have ever seen, and the graphics will blow you away. It is a truly remarkable fps. BUY BUY BUY! I made this short and sweet cuz i know many people like me like short and sweet ;-)
Rating: Summary: Hipe, Hope, Disapointment Review: Good Day, I must first tell you that I am a gamer and build computer all by hobbie. My rig is a P4 1.8 with a gig of RAM, GForce 4 4600 TI with 128 of RAM on it. I also have a SB audigy 2. So I will not say that my rig is top of the line but it is still a nice rig. For example my rig eats UT2004 (set to highest everything) For lunch. That being said, Far Cry Promised us a great FPS and gave us a middle of the road shooter with a good story. The game is very chopy and does not play well. By that I mean that while loading it sometimes crashes. also while playing as well. The graphics are just okay. One thing that bothers me is that you can not use your wepon while you are in the water. Thats crazy. The story is a good one and that is why I game it 2 stars. In short don't waste your time and money on this game if you are a true gamer.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding FPS Review: First, my system, P4 2.26, 512 ram, and a Radeon 9800 pro. At medium settings and a resolution of 1152x768, the game ran great. I finished the game and had no crashes, or slow downs. Now I must admit, at medium settings, I did not see all the really cool capabilities of the engine, but the game still looked ridiculously good. Better then anything I have seen yet. As far as the game goes, if you like fps, this is an awsome game. If you want to nerd out and complain this game is nothing new, or to linear, or not ground breaking enough, then you can be miserable by yourself. Is it something orignial? No, its not, but so what. The plot is cliche, the whole mad scientist thing, and the indoor missions can be typically linear. But that does not detract from this being an excellent gaming experience. The weapons are very realistic, I would have liked to have the aim down the sights though (like Call of Duty), and outdoor missions give you all sorts of ways to accomplish your goal, along with several different ways to get to it. I don't think any other game yet has done that. So, enough said, if you like fps, and aren't expecting every single game to turn the world upside down, you will enjoy this one.
Rating: Summary: Awful Review: I have a fairly new PC - P4, 2.8 GHz, 1 GB RAM, GE Force FX 5200 128MB Graphics card, and the game barely works. I tried many different settings but none seemed to help. There are areas where the game just slows down to a crawl. I tried the patch and it didn't help. I give up! What a waste of money. I'm returning it.
