Rating: Summary: A regular guy's review... Review: Just got the game yesterday and I must say that this is a solid multiplayer FPS.
If you are a 'run and gun' loner, who opts for the heavy firepower, pass on this game. If you want a mature 'TEAMWORK' experience, this is the game for you. I frequently play Battlefield 1942/Vietnam, and am getting a bit weary of the 'deathmatch kiddies' who rampage across the map with their rocket launchers. In Joint Ops, you can do that, but you won't make much progress. This game requires real teamwork. To take a position you must outnumber the enemy forces at that point, or you cannot take control of it. Snipers loose accuracy over great distances, so no 'newbie' 1 km headshots in this game either. The engineers can carry mortars, but need a spotter with a targeting laser to 'paint' targets for accuracy. The more you work with your team and plan out your attacks, the more success you'll have.
Some of the maps are incredibly massive. You can have a ground battle raging, and 20 miles away a gunboat battle could be underway.
It is true that helicopter flight is exceptionally easy compared to battlefield Vietnam. You don't have to manage your thrust with forward movement in Joint Ops. I for one find this a positive, since the threat from the ground can be so intense that it pretty much evens out the odds.
As mentioned before, if you only have 56K connection, DO NOT BELIEVE THE BOX. I tried it out on my girlfriend's computer with 56K connection, and it was unplayable.
Rating: Summary: Nice game, but.................... Review: Looking for a war game that has realism, most of the current weapons of todays army, and vehicles (including helicoptors) that you can ride? This game has it all!! BUT, you'll find yourself respawning countless times in fustrating, after fustrating attempts to get on the battlefield with those weapons and rides. Soon after getting the hang of things you'll find lag and more experienced players kniving and shooting you back to respawn time and time again. I've played far cry and countless other war games and this one is for the very very very patient. Team play, yes, this game has that too However, no one actually uses the controls to "team play" and you end up one for all and all for one throwing as much firepower, grenades, and missles as you can just to stay alive for 2 seconds.
If you don't mind respawning 100 times a match, enjoy semi-teamplay (I use the term very loosely), and firing up to date weapons, then this game is for you.
Rating: Summary: There's a reason it's called Joint Operations Review: The out-of-box experience was a little frustrating. Thanks to a little bug, if you played through a router, you'd sometimes have trouble connecting on a NovaWorld server. A few days later, a patch was available and took care of the problem.Once the game got rolling, it was a lot of fun. Hardcore MMOG gamers were working together to get the job done. The idea is TEAMWORK. Having a little bit of a plan helps a lot. If you try to take out the bad guys by your lonesome self, you'll just get to respawn more than everyone else. After several hours of playing, I'm ready for a little more variety. I'm looking forward to the expansion packs/redeux for this one.
Rating: Summary: The most chaotic and massive FPS ever! Review: The person that has a review posted above me is completely wrong unfortunately. They have no clue what they are talking about so please disregard everything he says. DESERT COMBAT is not a free game. You must purchase 50 dollar game to play it. He is very much wrong in leading people in thinking it is a free game. This game supporst up to 150 people on multiplayer with no lag and is very smooth. The graphics are incredible especially considering the fact that the game supports so many users. If you liked Battlefield series then this game is for you. It is what Battlefield 2 is trying to be. A massive First person shooter. Well you have it right here! It has broken the barrier of first person shooters. Go out and buy now. You can't beat the price.
Rating: Summary: JO rules... Review: This game although graphics may not be intense as FC or BFV, the gameplay blows the said above away. FC online play is a joke, it's like fighting comic book characters, pfff. BVF is a waste, the gameplay blows. You peeps who have probs running it, get a better video card. I've read your specs and your cards blow. FC is a joke for online play, and BFV is a total loss of time. JO rocks and those that I've seen write a bad review are prob the one's I'm spanking everytime I play..HaHa..!! Buy this game if enjoy kick butt online play...
Rating: Summary: Almost perfect! Review: This game has every bit of excitment you're looking for in an online multiplayer FPS game. Weapons are great to choose from, vehicles are fun to operation. And the heat of battle is intense. Some weapons don't seem to be powered correctly though. One shot kill from a sniper is too easy. It seems to take about a billion cannon shots to bring down a helicopter. Other than that, the game's weapons are great! One improvement I'd like to see is a server limit to the number of a single player type that will be allowed in any game. Playing a game with 80% snipers is no fun. But, even with these limits, it definately gets two thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: Only for broadband, but older computers OK Review: This game is great fun. It's a blast to drive all kinds of vehicles into battle. Unfortunately they've backed off a little on that regard. Lots of the maps don't include armed helicopters or APC's. The rocket chopper is especially rare. This is an understandable move in the quest for better game-balancing, but definitely a loss.
Snipers tend to rule the game. Stay out of the crowded servers (depends on the map's size, but typically less than 60-70 players is best). Otherwise, you spawn, run to the action, then promptly get shot by one of 20 or 30 snipers. This becomes tiring very quickly. Teamplay is pretty important to being succesfull in this game.
Hopefully the newly released beta map-making tool will bring some more vehicle-heavy maps to the game.
Rating: Summary: Not for deathmatching kiddies! Review: This game is more simulator than deathmatch experience. One hit kills are the norm. Deaths without knowing where it came from, or whom it game from are the norm.
If you are the rambo bunny hopping death match kiddie type do me and everyone else a favor and stay away.
Players that move in groups and work together rule this game, loner rambos die quickly and often.
The best analogy I can come up with is Joint Operations is a more "action" orientied Operation Flashpoint. With modern updated graphics.
Joint Operations does not have the extensive list of weapons and vehicles that Operation Flashpoint has and is class based so you choices of firepower are limited by what class you choose. All classes are useful, even the medic. But Joint Operations definately feels a little more "action" oriented, in the game play.
The expansion pack "Escalation" will add more vehicles, maps and weapons, so it will more like Operation Flashpoint in november.
Rating: Summary: Something realy good ! Review: This is by far one of the best games on the net today ! 1st person shooter with a 3rd person twist in it. Need a good video card though and a good connection to the net to fully enjoy the pleasure of this game. Everything from maps to equipment and lets not forget vihicles is all top notch cant say a bad thing about this one Nova realy pulled it of with this title. Up to 150 people in a SINGLE map thats outstanding. Team work is VERY, VERY IMPORTANT and the realism is there no metter what anybody sas. I suggest...GET THE GAME YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED.
