Rating: Summary: Quality 'Nam game, but beware of videocard requirements!!! Review: "Men of Valor" plays somewhat like a cinematic production and less like a videogame at times. It is a good blend of realism and entertainment. It is rated 17+, so be prepared for lots of swearing, blood, and graphic screams from the wounded. The dialogue and soundtrack for the game is very abundant, requiring 4 CD-ROMs. The aiming system is updated from the Medal Of Honor series, with a very basic sight-aiming option now available. But the aiming feature is still not as realistic as "Call of Duty" or "Brothers In Arms". Since most weapons in MOV are spray n' pray automatics, the sight-aiming system is mostly a non-issue. One thing not listed on the box requirements is a high-end videocard. If you have an nVidia Geforce MX series videocard, this game will not run properly. Even the latest Geforce4 MX cards won't work.
Rating: Summary: Not That Great Review: A no. of viatnam based games have recently been released ... must say ,that this one is the best of the lot. But what to say the competition is not much at all. The first thing u notice about the game are the graphics , the graphics are not at all up to the standard of the new games that have come out resently ...there is a lot of detail ...the jungles are well created and the grass looks great ... but just when u play the game it feels that somethings are missing as though the graphics were hurried.. one poor animation is of the guns...allied forces and call of duty had far better gun animation (both games are 3 and 2 years old.)
Now to the gameplay ... i got bored pretty soon .. there was not that feeling of eargency that i felt in call of duty ...
The game does in the biginning give a feeling of the difficult times the men faced in the viatnam war .. but this feeling does not last.. its fast starts to get a bit boring ..and u start wishing when will this game finish..
Well after i finished i did enjoy it ... but i am sure i will not give it any replay value..
As for multiplayer goes .... i still prefer to play call of duty of battlefield 1942.... They are just far better games..
if u are looking for a viatnam based game... then plzz purchase this .. but if u are just a wargame fan ...i would not recommend this purchase.
Rating: Summary: this game sucks Review: i can't even play it because every time i try to install the game it either crashes my computer , which is brand new , or it gives me all kinds of error codes.no customer support or help is within reach.if you don't believe me , log on to the official website and enter the forums to see how many unhappy people besides me there are !!!!!!!!!!!! DON'T BUY THIS GAME
Rating: Summary: Pretty good! Review: I downloaded the multiplayer demo the other day and i was surprised at the graphics (which are very good if you have a good video card)Also I was impressed by the way the weapons handled (Kick, aim ect) i have two beefs, one the guns should be a tad louder when shooting and being next to someone shooting & two the M60 and RPD sounds almost them same, which is kind of annoying because of the detail in the guns and stuff youd expect theyd give them different sounds
Rating: Summary: Based on the Demo, Multiplayer needs some work. Review: I found the demo for Men of Valor online the other day so I downloaded it but with what I saw, the graphics are not as good as I thought or in the screen shots I've seen of the game.
The game play is fairly decent with the two maps they give you to play on. One is a urban type setting and the other is a jungle map. As I played I found myself getting shot every few seconds or so because unlike Call of Duty's United Offensive Multiplayer map that are pretty much out-in-the-open, these are filled with places to hide or crawl through without being noticed (Bad if you are not a good player). Basing this on C of Duty's multiplayer this is a lot harder so if your an adverage online FPS player you may want to pass this up or at least the multiplayer version of the game. Going back to the graphics issue, the weapons textures were bad unlike the fine detail C of Duty's weapons entail and the weapon sounds were really bad sounding more like you were shoting a 22 rifle rather than a M14 (and I know because I've shot both guns in real life). I did like the fact you could throw a granade fast with a hot key which is what C of Duty is lacking.
This game should be good in the single player version so I will still order it but compairing it with the infamous C of Duty's multiplayer, it does not stack up at all so far.............we'll see.
Rating: Summary: For mature players only Review: I have only played the demo version of this game but it appears to be a top notch FPS war game. I would suggest to the reviewer who was so upset with the content of the game that she check the ERSB ratings before buying any game for a minor child. Some of these games are only for adults who are capable of dealing with the violence and language. There are many other games available for children or adults who are offended by the more realistic war games.
Rating: Summary: Style over Substance Review: My SYS SPECS: P4@3.0/800fsb ...RAM - 1gb DDR2 ... Card - Radeon X800SE PCI Express 128mb
Yet, I had to turn down the Video Settings. The gameplay didn't make up for the demanding SYS REQ. Choppy/Jerky/Slow gameplay and the graphics weren't all that great.
Games like Line of Sight:Vietnam; Deadly Dozen:Pacfic Theater and Marine Sharpshooter 2: Jungle Warfare all did a nice job with jungle/foliage, while keeping the SYS REQ within reason.
Rating: Summary: Probably fine on a console, but not on PC Review: This game seems to have been written for console platforms with the PC version as an afterthought. The graphics are Playstation-esque even at high resolution and the gameplay is more like console shooters than recent PC games (checkpoints instead of savegames, etc.). Add in severely anemic sound effects, comical character models, jerky gameplay (even on smoking fast machines), confusing missions, and a healthy dose of bugs (I ran one whole mission with my entire squad glued together like something from John Carpenter's The Thing. Hilarious but not much use in a firefight.) and Men of Valor makes for a big waste of money.
On the plus side the fire effects and explosions look really good, but save your money and download some screenshots instead.
Rating: Summary: Call of Duty wanna be Review: This game sure gives me the feeling of "been there, done that" in its gameplay. I am refering to Medal Of Honor and Call of Duty, except those games had a decent game-save feature. Here you have to wait for the game to automatically save itself because you can't. The result is that when you're killed you must replay the same action again and again until you get it right and can proceed. It even has the little compass so you'll know which direction to go, which is only another way of saying that this is a super linear game. It might appear to be a great big jungle for you to explore, but there is really only one way for you to go. This copy-cat game can be fun at times, but the feeling of deja-vu transcends the experience. This game is completely unoriginal and, if you really want to try it, just wait for the price to drop before you get it.
Rating: Summary: Best Vietnam based PC game ever developed!!!!! Review: Wow! What an experience. Just finished Men of Valor after 1 1/2 weeks (abt. 4-5 hours a day)and it was unbelievable. I'm playing on a high-end computer with Nvidia 6800 Ultra video card. I've played basically all the Vietnam games from Navy Seals (1990's), Nam, Vietnam: Spec Ops 1 & 2, Squad Battles (hex-based), Vietcong, Line of Sight, but to me this one more fully represents what the war was really like. I feel like I've just come back from my tour of duty. This is a hard and challenging game. Those without determination and patience will probally not care for it. Here are my summarized thoughts:
1. Rated "M" for abundant strong language & some racial slurs. The violence is moderate & similar to Call of Duty and MOH.
2. Graphics, animation, music, ambient sounds are very good. There are a few glitches (as is the case with every pc title I've owned...some are funny and produce strange occurences).
3. This game is for higher-end computers and above average video cards to experience all the graphical benefits. I especially liked the explosions, weapon detail, variety of Vietnam structures, landscape, vegetaion, water reflections (video shading Direct x 9C). Fires are ultra realistic, too.
4. With external speakers some of the U.S. weapons sound a little weak but with a set of I/O Magic Sound Assault 5.1 amplified headphones ($67) all sounds come to life and add to the intense/exhilirating experience. Even the 5.56 Nato auto rifle has ample "bang" with the headphones.
5. There are check-point saves. Some are appropriate in length while others are spaced too far apart.
6. Some missions require multiple re-starts and are very difficult and at times frustrating. Real war represents frustration and a variety of tactics and strategies must be used to succeed....fast frontal attack, crawling/stealth, use of appropriate weaponry, etc. Each mission is unique in background, terrain, military support, tactics, objectives.
7. Placing weapons on semi-auto rather than full auto and using precision aiming seems to render better success.
8. There are a few impossible parts I couldn't complete without some Men of Valor website tips. If you're bogged down get help.
9. Next to Far Cry this has been my favorite game so far. I rank it ahead of Call of Duty, Medal of Honor. Doom 3.
10. The cut scenes and historical photos and clips are done very well and add to a "feel" for what the Vietnam experience was really like. Period-piece music adds alot to the settings.
11. Don't expect to finish the game in short order. It will take time. But when completed it will render a great sense of accomplishment.
Enjoy
