Rating: Summary: Needs "Book of Dead Ends" but is out of print Review: I tried everything I could think of for this game and could not get anywhere. Finally I looked on the manufacturer's website and found they had something called "the book of dead ends" but it is out of print. There are a lot of dead ends in this game, and unless you know how to get from point A to point B, you might want to search the interenet for the walkthrough that I found where someone tells you step by step what to do to get anywhere. Other than that, the graphics are pretty good and you will enjoy the discovery of what's inside the great pryamid and the sphinx (if you ever get that far). If you're looking for every clue to solve a puzzle, you won't find them all because they're not all there (as far as I can tell). But have fun adventuring anyway... all alone with a curse to fall upon you.
Rating: Summary: Technically unusable on my XP box Review: WinXP w/1Gb RAM, NVIDIA GEForce, Athlon XP 1.3Ghz, with the 1.01 update from Dreamcatcher. The software was so buggy that I ended up tossing it after one night - really. The game would sometimes start and sometimes crash with a Macromedia [tm] Projector error. I was never able to use play all of the tapes, even after following a "workaround" from DC's web site. Didn't pay much for it, but it was not worth the frustration and this will definitely be my last Dreamcatcher game. No problems with other non-Dreamcatcher games, like Myst III Exile on this box.
Rating: Summary: Stop whining Review: To all you reviewers whining about the christian elements of the game- Truthfully, would you object to the game if it suggested egypt's pagan theology was true? why is it people only mind "religious" themes if the themes are christian?
Rating: Summary: Good game, but frustrating technical problems Review: First of all- to all you whiny reviwers complaining about the christian aspects in the game, SHOVE IT. you can call it "religious" if you want- I call it reality. Funny how nobody would complain if a game took up darwinist dogma or bought into pagan theology... Anyway, aside from the ending the only "christian" thing in the game is that some clues have been hidden in the book of numbers ( oh no! how terrible! get real.) My only problems with the game have been technical. I once got to the end only to discover my inventory had suddenly dissapeared. also whenever opening drawers or boxes a huge green rectangle appeared in the middle of the screen blocking most of my view and ocassionally crashing the game. I never did get to see the ending... arggg!...
Rating: Summary: Riddle of the Sphinx Review: This is one of the best I have played so far; it really keeps you on your toes-- if you miss something you have to go back and find it or you will never solve the puzzle! I went back several times, but it was worth it to finally solve the puzzle.--Awesome!!!I'm looking forward to the sequel (Omega Stone)
Rating: Summary: Reviewer: Charlotte, NC Review: Great Game! It does have a, I Believe, a low key Christian theme. But, hey, they are a lot of games that have a Satanic Theme or orther such theme. I can ignore that. The game is a great puzzle solving game. Many are quite challenging. There are many areas to explore. As some have stated there is the freeze up glitch that can be fixed with a patch; if Dreamcatcher hasn't fixed on the new shipments yet. All in all it is great fun! I have already preordered 'The Omega Stone.' It will most likely have a Christian theme also....Get over it.
Rating: Summary: Not a Great Game, And a Bit Deceiving Review: First, there are similar games with better grahpics, like Myst. Second, upon playing the game I felt a bit betrayed. Nothing on the packaging indicates that this game has a specifically Christian outlook, but it becomes apparent upon play. Had I know, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. Now that I have I suppose I'll have to sell it in an attemp to recoup something. The designers, et al, should have had the integrity to be honest about the slant of the game BEFORE unsuspecting people buy it and discover it for themselves. I've nothing against proselytization, but at least be up front about it so that I don't waste my time or money.
Rating: Summary: A must have (but...) Review: This game was so cultural and interesting, I felt like I often got lost in it. You have to have this game, I can't even stress enough how good it is. The only flaws is like everyone is saying. It crashes if you play too long. So you might want to go for about thirty minutes, then stop and reboot your computer. And it WAS too dark down in the pyramids, and although I hate having to adjust my monitor for games, it is well worth changing the brightness ahead of time because you'll want to see everything. And save often.
Rating: Summary: Old time (Hitch-hickers Guide) Fun!! Review: My husband I sat & played this together--had not played Myst at all--so we really enjoyed the "new" look & controls & puzzles very much. We had not had a computer since we sold our "commador 64" at a yard sale many years ago, till just late in 2001. We had played Hitch-hickers Guide on the old 64 & had a blast on that one...so when we were given a computer for christmas...we bought "The Riddle of the Sphinx". Our reaction was WOW! We had a few glitches which were promptly fixed by a free patch downloaded from the online Dreamcatcher site...so much for the other people with their problems & not seeking help... We have since gotten Myst:Exile & I feel that Riddle of the Sphinx is Soooooo much more fun--one reason is you can pick up & take so many items & the graphics are just fantastic!! Exile did not let you interact with much at all--wouldn't let you pick up much, did not let you take anything along--talk about having to write everthing down! The best thing was the roller coaster ride in that game....Give us The Riddle any day...You actually had to think & find what the puzzle was to solve, Where Myst takes you right to the puzzle each time. We are looking forward to purchasing the Omega Stone--About time they came out with another high caliber puzzle game... We have been waiting.......
Rating: Summary: A Fascinatiing Puzzle - the game was over all too soon Review: This is a beautiful and engrossing game. Once you have figured out how to get into the hidden passages it is easy to become mesmerized with the sense of place the artwork envokes. Slow down and take your time to enjoy the puzzles and imagine that you are walking down passages that have been undisturbed for untold ages. I am looking forward to the authors' new game, Omega Stone, that comes out in November. Hopefully it will be as enjoyable as this one.
