Summary: All hype, no play value
Review: The Final Fantasy series has been steadily declining in worth since FF6. Squaresoft now seems to rely on 'pretty boy' villian such as Sephiroth and What's-his-name from this game. The plot of the last two games was just plain bad. The GF system in this game was extreemly annoying. Why play this when GOOD games like Baldur's Gate are out there? My advice is to avoid this game like the plague and save your money for something else.

Summary: One notch below FFV
Review: This was one of the few FF games that kept me in awe. Not only did the graphics blow me away, but the sound was amazing. And just when the game was starting to slow down, a short cut scene would appear and awaken everything. This would have been my favorite FF game had I not played FFV before it.

Summary: Excellent RPG
Review: My daughter introduced me to this game - I normally avoid RPGs because of past experience. I was surprised by how intricate the story line is and how complicated the gameplay can get (junction this, use that, learn ablilities and so on). The graphics are well done, the soundtrack is great and the game runs well (400 mhz PII, 64meg). My only complaints are: 1. There are some scenes where the detail suffers 2. The battle system is hard to get used to All that aside, I've spent much more time playing FF8 than I'd like to admit, even though I already got to the ending. I've played FF7 and FF9, but I like FF8 the best.

Summary: Flawed but stilled Awed
Review: This game is one of the best video games of all times and shouldn't be gunned down by people. I do admit that they made a mistake when they ported the game to PC but it is still a masterpiece worth respecting. The ciniam is gorgous the gameplay is spectacular and the story is spell bounding. A must buy!

Summary: Pretty Good Game
Review: I've played and finished this game and I must say I had fun.

The game's graphics take quite a jump from FF7, and the characters now look more lifelike. However, they are still too polygonal. The Movie sequnces that occur every now and then look fantastic, and the magic and GF animations are good too. Still, you'll have to go through the GF animations quite a lot, and after a while, they get irritating (especially GF Eden). Attacks look better than ever, and limit breaks have improved too.

Sound? Well, if I must be frank, the sound really sucks. I guess Squaresoft couldn't find any other way but to use MIDI.

The plot of the game is quite good, with a lot of twists to it. I particularly liked the ending (I saved the game before the final battle so I could watch it again).

The Junctioning system in the game is better then the ones in its predecessors. It's harder to learn, but well worth the effort.

Overall, even though the game lacks in some areas, it is still fun to play, and any person who enjoys RPGs will like this one.

Summary: A movie, not a game
Review: I know that a lot of people really want to believe that this is a good game. I was once one of the faithful too.

Final Fantasy 8 is just plain ridiculous. Here is a simple explanation for this uncharacteristic phenomena. It is a movie that has a little bit of gameplay inserted. You seem to have almost no control over the game for the first disk. You are constantly having to wait for slow moving, automated character animations and boring dialogue. Your character is only sporadicly under your command. You move a few feet, throw a switch, and presto! Another pointless animation sequence which robs you of any feeling of real accomplishment. If you keep yourself healed, and utilize the guardian forces (cool for the first time, infuriating after that), the game will play itself with little or no help from you.

The graphics are pathetic. They remind me of Kings Quest (you know what I am talking about!) The sound (midi?), I mean come on. My old school NES had better music than this game offers.

Here is the one cool part. The cinematic scenes. That's it. You waste hours of your time in some pathetic addictive persuit for more of these audio visual masterpieces. Right from the start of the game, you are hooked. I think that a lot of people really liked the cinematic sequences. So much, in fact, that they had to justify wasting there time with this game by giving it a positive review. Here is the real deal. The cinema scenes and story are good. The game itself is absolutley pathetic.

I just really wanted to see those movies too...

Summary: MEDIOCRE FINAL FANTASY
Review: Take what I say with a grain of salt, I only played the demo version. But from what little I did play, here's what I have to say about the game. First of all, let me say that I have now played every single Final Fantasy game out there, and from my vast experience I felt that the beginning of FF8 was not near as good as the beginning of any of the other Final Fantasy games. Some people complain that the setting in this game is too modern. I personally don't care, as long as they do a good job of it, like in FF 7. That game rocked! I must say that the in-game character graphics were a great improvement over FF 7, but there were some other things I had problems with. The battles at the beginning of the game were way too long. It wasn't like you killed them in one hit or anything. And I didn't like how you already had a stockpile of summon creatures and magic spells to use. For me, part of the fun of a FF game is finding the summon creatures and then using them. The in-game animation was also spectacular, in that the characters moved very lifelike.

Summary: FF8 ROX
Review: Final Fantasy VIII is the best RPG style game i've EVER played. I don't understand how anyone could even complain with this game. Several complaints have come up about the GF animation, but there is a major point to it too. During the GF animation most GFs can be 'boosted' up to a higher damage potential, anilating the enemy faster. The charachters in this game are so realistic (even though at least one of them will annoy you). My question is (and i haven't played enough to know the answer): What is up with Laguna?

I recommend the black Logitech Wingman gamepad with the transparent blue buttons. The many buttons come in handy! They sell it here in electronics or something.

Summary: Eye Candy
Review: This shall be a very short review. If you want to read a review of the game itself, just go and read about the PSX version. Here, I am just complaining about the PC porting :) While the Playstation version is a no doubt five star release, the PC version lacks of the same quality. This does not [stink] like the Final Fantasy VII conversion, where there were also compatibility problems and an impossible controlling system, but: Besides the wonderful graphics (Playstation game on PC? piece of cake...) this game does not offer anything more than the PSX version. (Same could be said for Lunar: the Silver Star Story from Sega CD to PSX... but who owns a Sega CD? It was a way to let the crowd know a Classic) The PC version offers perfect 3D floating on low res locations, while the PSX melted the two elements together perfectly, all in lo res. You must own a 8 button gamepad. (analog rumbling pad on PC? not worth the climb) You won't be able to configure it. I love this game, but on PSX. If you have a PSX, don't even think of "Installing" this thing on your PC. Besides all this, it's still a great game.
