Rating: Summary: Gotta sleep... But I must finish... I must... Review: My Journey just ended today and it truly was a long one. I finally beat it...!!! Now I can sleep in peace. I myself was skeptical about buying this game, but I can assure you, you'll be captivated by it. Please note, this is actually a 4.5 stars game. I am only able to put 4 starts because the dropdown box doesn't allow otherwise. I come from a background of playing various adventure games by Sierra On-Line and Lucasfilms. TLJ did not disappoint. This is one of those games that draw you right into the story and makes you feel like you're a part of it. In fact, it was almost impossible to go to sleep on some nights. And even when I got the opportunity to, I actually started to dream about what was going to happen next. TLJ was very well put together - there are so many different places to visit and so much detail in each of the scenes and full motion videos (FMV's). Each one was magnificent and just pure eyecandy. Kudos to the designers and graphic artists! I must also say that the characters and their voices were also very convincing. Just about everyone of them fit their mood or accent. They were very much alive. Particularly Detective Minelli (*a reference for those who have played the game already). Whoever did the voice for April did an incredible job. The musical scores were also amazing; they were well performed and added dimension to each scene. But most of all, I fell in love with the story and thought it was terrific. There is one drawback: For those of you with a short attention span, be warned... there is A LOT of dialogue. This is actually a good thing as it adds the feeling of actually being in the story and it gives you more of a sense of the who the characters really are. After reaching the end of the journey, however, it left me wanting more... I wonder what the chances are for a "The Other Longest Journey"...
Rating: Summary: Awesome Game! Review: I just finished TLJ this afternoon, and I am not disappointed in the slightest! This game is abosolutely amazing! The story line is marvelous, the graphics are primo, the voice acting is awesome, and the puzzles don't have ridiculous solutions to them! This game is wonderful for those gamers whom are looking more for story, rather than challenge. Novice gamers would barely need hints to play it, while more seasoned gamers would probably breeze right on through it. Now, with every review there are some cons involved, the cds are not in jewel cases, but in thos little paper things...maybe thats on here somewhere that I missed, but needless to say that when I thought I saw a manual, and I tipped the box over and a cd slid out on to my hand, I was a little more than suprised. The ending...I WANT MORE! I wish that they could have touched base on what happened to all the characters in the end...but ah well..plenty of room for a sequel...lol! This is one of the best games I've played in a long time, kudos to the makers!
Rating: Summary: Too Much Dialogue Review: Too be fair, I have to admit, I haven't finished this game. I figure I completed about 30% of the game. The reason I haven't finished it is because I bought a new PC and haven't had the time to reinstall the game and catch up to where I left off before. That being said... Like some of the other reviewers, the one reason that this game felt just mediocre was because of the extraneous dialogue you must sit through. I agree that the voice-acting is terrifc andthe game has beautiful visuals and is captivating in the manner in which everything is presented, but at least 50% of the game is spent listening to characters talking. Don't get me wrong, I do have the patience to listen to dialogue in a PC game, but there was just so much that I found myself longing for the moment when it became clear that I didn't have to talk to that character anymore. The best way I can put it is to think of the Star Wars movies. If you had to stop every 5 minutes and listen to Yoda chat for 10 minutes, you'd probably grow tired of it after 3 or 4 times. The first couple of times you'd probably think it was pretty cool, but soon you'd start thinking, "Ok, when do I get to use my light saber?" Get the point? True enough, I could totally change my thoughts about the game when I complete it, but at the moment, it's a little hard to find motivation to restart the game since I'd have to sit through most of the dialogue yet again. Otherwise, this is a great example of how to present an adventure game in the PC format.
Rating: Summary: if only there were more games like this Review: this game was spectacular. april is a lovable funny, witty charecter. cut scenes are great. there is a bit of swearing in this game, but over all it's great. you meet many interesting charecters and creatures and the magical elements of the arcadia world was magnificent. i wish my brother would give it back to b\me so i could play it again! and crow..you'll see what i mean but he is the most loveable of all.
Rating: Summary: Guaranteed to keep you happy for the longest time! Review: I bought this game recently and can't say enough good things about it. While it came out some time ago, there is nothing dated about it. It runs on old systems, and is a blast to play. The 3D graphics aren't the latest, but the 2D art is beautiful. Also, the cutscenes are very well done. The story is magnificent (the strongest part of the game), and though the game gets slow sometimes, there were no puzzles that I couldn't understand (unlike some other adventure games). The humor is not used as much as in some Lucasarts games, for example Grim Fandango, but it is there (however, much of it is adult humor) Thus, my first warning would be that a person needs to be mature when playing this game (I was 14, and I didn't have a problem, some people might not be as mature at my age). There are sexual themes (including homosexuality), a great deal of bad language, and a little violence. My only other warning is to not forget to eat, sleep, and talk to family while this game is on your hard drive. While I recomend this game to anyone, I especially recomend this game to anyone who is not a big gamer. This game is a great introduction to gaming.
Rating: Summary: The Best Game Ever Review: I first heard of The Longest Journey when I downloaded the demo. As soon as it was released I purchased it. I could not tear myself away from the game. I played the game again recently and still enjoyed it just as much. Great graphics and in some cases funny. Just as you think you know how something is going to turn out something else happens. It leaves you wanting to get through to the end to see what is going to happen. I read that The Longest Journey 2 is due to be released some time this year and I can't wait. This is an awesome game!
Rating: Summary: Well worth it Review: I purchased this game as an impulse buy - I came to buy a different game and happened to click on this one out of curiosity. I'm glad I did; this is one of the best adventure games I have played in a long time. The storyline is epic, the execution grand; the graphics are beautiful, the voices well done, the script is excellent. The characters respond quite realistically, given their circumstances. The puzzles are good, almost all of which you can work out given sufficient thought (and remembering the credo: try to pick up everything!). There are enough plot twists to keep you guessing and keep you interested. This is one of those games which I almost couldn't stop playing long enough to go to work or to sleep, I was that much into it. My only complaint is that the ending seems a little too abrupt, leaving too many things dangling -- but then I guess that's also why I'm waiting so eagerly for TLJ2 to be released :-)
Rating: Summary: One of the greatest adventure games! Review: This is definitely one of the best games in existence. It is strongly philosophical of many issues of the world today, as well as the forgotten past. It is also done in a very refreshing style that adventure games have been void of for a few years. The game not only looks great, but it is full of substance as well. The main character, April, is very interesting and relatable. The characters are very strong and the plot is excellent. This game is full of humour, wit, mystery, excitement and ADVENTURE. It will engage you, and you will not be able to wait for the sequel! -Tammy
Rating: Summary: Best Game EVER! Review: The Longest Journey was absolutely the best game yet. Besides a terrific story line, that can take two different paths, it was bug free and really fun to play. Like a book you just can't put down, I wanted to take a day or two from work just to play. If you prefer adventure games that don't kill you off every two steps (oh, hoped you saved) kind of games, this is truly the game to play. The puzzles were great, and the graphics fantastic. Can't wait for the Sequel!!
Rating: Summary: The Longest Journey Review: I read about this game a few years back while browsing through a videogame website. It was European based, written, produced, and published. It had huge success in Europe and recieved great reviews. They also emphasized how it wasn't planned for US release for at least another year. I was eager to play it but had to wait patiently. A solid year later I purchased my own copy. There are five games that have grabbed my attention so effectively that I played them constantly, went to bed thinking about them, and dreamt about them: Half-Life, Ghost Recon, Gran Turismo 3, Starcraft, and The Longest Journey. It absorbed my life for three weeks. It cut into my sleeping time, it made me forget to eat, and my only thoughts at work were how to get to the next chapter. It's an original story with tons of characters. Once the story gets rolling it'll suck you in. A lot of people say it's a slow start but I beg to differ. It sets up a lot of script and facts that you need. Clues pop up every once in a while that pique your interest until you can't stand it any longer and absolutely must know what's going on. It's superbly paced and the voice-acting is great. It's not Oscar winning but it's definately not like Final-Fantasy-X-unacceptable. Sometimes you do run into gobs of dialogue and you'll catch yourself daydreaming. Imagine you're reading a book and it's much easier to follow. It really is a great story. Something that many video game companies forget to involve.
