Summary: Every bit worth it.
Review: The graphics are NOT bad. The play control is NOT bad (it takes getting used to), to the contrary it's actually sophisticated. Basically, you need a brain to play this and a brain to understand the concept of the Matrix...and since this game is a direct tie-in to the plot of Enter the Matrix, I really don't see how you can't understand the game's premise if you claim to have understood The Matrix: Reloaded.

Sure, go rent it. My money says that you will go out and buy it too.

Summary: Could anything have lived up to the hype?
Review: I don't think so.

Although it's an ingenious concept, marketing-wise, I found this game not worth the money I spent on it.

You'd think on a modern system (Athlon XP 2200+, GeForce4, and 512MB ram) that it would run flawlessly on low resolution with all the details off. It doesn't. When the enemies pile on, framerates fall to the point where it gets completely unplayable.
You'd think that during some missions when you have an AI driver, it would be able to stay on the road and not get stuck behind a wall so that you die... twice.

All in all, stay away from the PC version of this game. It's not worth your money. If you want to play it, play it on a console, and rent it instead.

Summary: Fairly serious development problems
Review: I love the Matrix genre and I'm giving this game 3 stars based on that alone. This game has some fairly serious production problems and it could've definately used a testing phase in the product development cycle.

Running Win2k pro with 64mb gforce,512 MRam, 1.2 Ghz cpu and 40 Gig HD (with 20 left)- major crashes to desktop, once you install the game it disables most desktop functionality, I can't even get WinAmp to run now to listen to Mp3's. If this was my primary computer I'd be up in arms, but I built an extra machine just to play poorly developed games like this.

Atari has a patch out - but it won't even install on my machine.

However, I love the matrix genre, and the game play is okay. Nothing spectacular. I was expecting better given the hype and promise of the genre. The controls are workable, but lots of basic movement bugs make the H2H fighting difficult. Aside from the installation and bug issues, the game is way too linear - no choices at all for the player - and it's a really boring run and shoot game.

Still I love the move, so I'll finish the last half - but I doubt I'll play the other char (I'm playing ghost now). Way overpriced.

Summary: Its only fun cause its the Matrix...
Review: Should you get this game? The best answer is yes and no. For a Matrix fan this is a no brainer ~ your going to force yourself to put up with all of the game's faults. Not a die hard Matrix fan? Then your not going to miss much here.

Some things to consider...
1. This is a bad version of Max Payne.
I had a lot of difficulty adjusting to the gun fights, the movement and aiming felt very jerky and unprecise.(You also have to run everywhere for some reason) This is quite the opposite of Max Payne, it only took me a few minutes to become quite good with the gun fighting.

2. The hand to hand fighting is done quite well, but hard to incorporate into large battles.(Like when mobs of guards are in your way)

3. The game can be played from the point of view of both characters, Ghost and Niobe.(just don't expect a huge difference, its just the same level from a different angle)

4. The driving sequences are, well, not my favorite. Some people may find some joy to them, but I found them rather boring and poorly done.

Overall the action was put together pretty well, I'm playing through the game since I'm a big Matrix fan, but I dont' think i'll do it a second time.

Ok after finishing the game I'm going to give all you action fans a little advice out there - save your money. The videos are nice, but not incorporated very well and they are..well the only reason I would see anyone forcing themselves to play this game. Every department needs help in a major way. Graphics have bluring and see through polygon problems, the sound is not very well done in EAX, even with the new patch. I found myself driving and make huge turns at just the slightest movement, taking huge jumps off small bumps and landing smack into a wall-aggrivating. And this was supposed to be directed by the brothers? There is no real "umph" to the story, you just run around and shoot guards most of the time watching parts of the movie you could have guessed happened if you had just watched it in the theatre and the animatrix already.

To sum it up, I've already uninstalled it and and reinstalled Max Payne so I could remember how a real game is made.

Summary: HACK IN!
Review: I had been anticipating this game since late January and for the most part, I wasn't too disappointed. The bullet-time effects alone are almost worth the purchase and really captured the essense of the first movie. I loved how your character could run across walls with guns blazing. However, for a PC title, this game failed to test the limits of my system's graphical capabilities. The levels and character models are pretty bland with low textures. I did like the greenish tint used to shade the environments when your character was hacked within the matrix just like it was in the movie. Of course, the biggest selling point of this game was the fact that the Wachowski Brothers filmed almost an hour's worth of new footage exclusively for the game. Though the acting was hammy at times and the actor playing Sparks was grating and annoying with his unfunny wisecracks, I thought the producers did an excellent job incorporating these scenes within the game. However, it was curious that some of the cut scenes used the in-game graphics engine with the actor's voices. Was this a budget-cutting move? The game is also fairly easy to beat with I having completed it within six hours. However, what will keep me from coming back is the Hacking feature which allows me to unlock secrets and training levels within the game. Word is that completing the game with both characters will allow you to unlock the filmed scenes from the movie. And if you've finished playing the game with Niobe you will understand my anxiousness. Who can forget the scene in the game where Monica Bellucci and Jada Pinkett Smith share a smooch? Overall, Enter the Matrix is a good game that more than succeeds it's intentions to provide fans with a new story line coupled in a satisfying gaming experience. However, had it had not included the new scenes and the hacking feature, Enter the Matrix would have been just another Max Payne knockoff with lesser graphics.

Summary: This Game Is Horrible
Review: Put away your Neo trenchcoat. Take off the sunglasses, pop "The Matrix" out of your DVD player for once. This is no place for fanbois.

This game is awful. There are so many things wrong with it that it is hard to know where to begin.

The combat system is ridiculous. You tap punch or kick and your character goes into some scripted set of moves that never changes. You have about five sets of moves, plus some useless wall crawling, for the entire game.

The punches don't connect. They frequently miss by inches, but your enemy reacts as if they hit him anyway. This is particularly visible in "bullet time" ... er, "focus time".

There is one grapple.

The level design is kindergarten quality. All levels are blocky, with no decorations or adornments. It's blank corridor maze after blank corridor maze. This would be great if it was Doom.

AI is extremely weak. Enemies either rush right at you or stand still.

Gunplay is lame. First, it's auto-aim, which is so utterly boring. Second, enemies take numerous bullets to drop. Ridiculous.

There is no environment interaction, except for the occasional lever or button.

Gameplay is "walk forward to next area, beat up a few guys with your scripted moves, press lever, walk to next area, repeat ad nauseum". An example? Your first mission is to enter a postal warehouse and find ... a package! Wow, just like the movie!

The engine is ridiculously outdated. Objects pop in and out of the world, visibly, when you back about fifteen feet away from them. Nothing has detail, everything is low-poly, low-res-texture. The particle system is pathetic. It is obvious that they wrote the game for the PS2 and ported it to the other platforms with no improvements. But it's even subpar for a PS2 game - it looks on the level of a PS1 title.

There is nothing to make this game appealing. Nothing. Yet it is the #1 seller based on the name. Which confirms my belief that there should be a better channel established for renting games. Anyone who rented this would not want to keep it. I returned mine the day I bought it.

If you like fighting games, try "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", or "Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb". Both are based on better combat system technology that actually gives you control over the moves you throw. If you like shooting and stealth games, I recommend "Hitman 2".

"Enter the Matrix" is strictly for fanbois who have gigantic posters of Neo and Trinity on their bedroom walls. And guess what - they're not even in it. Just two minor characters from the movie and a bunch of redshirts.

Summary: From a Matrix fan--WOW!!!
Review: I debated whether to watch the movie or play the game first. As it turned out, I saw the movie first, so when I started playing the game, I knew who some of the characters were. Now I'm onto the second level, and I've already been in one of the scenes from the movie. This is one deep rabbit hole. So lets break this down.

--Graphics--

Though I have seen better, and high resolutions the graphics engine is very sharp. Most scenery is deformable, especially tiled columns. Very sweet. In Bullet-Time, things get a little grainy, but it works out well. The bullet trails are extremely similar to the movies. On lower resolutions, I don't think the game would look so great, so if you are hanging around the recommended specs for the game, might want to upgrade before getting it.

--Sound/Music/Voice--

Due to the tightly interwoven development of "Enter the Matrix" and "Matrix: Reloaded" the voice acting is top notch. All the big screen characters portrayed in the game have their dialog done by the corresponding actors, not cheap stand in voice actors. All of the sound effects are taken directly from the movie SFx. The music is also well done, fitting so well into the gameplay that you almost miss it, until you realize that the fast-paced score is making your heart beat that much faster. Very well done in my book.

--Gameplay--

Here's where it gets a little sticky, and where a number of gamers will be a bit turned off. The controls are pretty standard for normal gameplay, and most of the action takes place in a 3rd person over the shoulder view. You are able to switch to a first person view if you want to or have to at certain points of the game. There are lots of weapons to choose from, in addition to having a martial arts option to combat. You can even mix the two if you choose. There are also an impressive number of special moves, many utilizing Bullet-Time, that can be used for both hand-to-hand and ranged fighting.

There are also parts where you will either drive a car or other vehicle, or ride "shotgun" and take out any enemies that try to get in your way. These parts can be a bit tricky, as the controls may be either too sensitive or not sensitive enough. If you can stick it out though, these parts are short, and the rest of the game should more than make up for them.

Another interesting feature is that you can play the game through with 2 different characters with similar yet differing storylines. While not being revolutionary, the producers do stress that if you really want to understand the story, you should play both characters all the way through.

--Multiplayer/Mods--

None at the moment, but I'm sure it won't take too long for people out there to figure both out. I have money down taht the first mod will be to let you play as either Neo, Trinity, or Morpheus.

--Overall--

If you aren't really a fan of the Matrix movies, DO NOT buy this game. You will not understand what is going on, nor will you appreciate the subtleties of the game experience. However, if you are like me and are an avid Matrix fan, this game delivers. I very much look forward to playing the rest of it. I hope you have found this review helpful, whether or not you decide to buy the game.

Summary: not that good
Review: This game isnt worth the money..... its a total console port to pc.... the textures and rendering are very poor.....input engine(mouse/keyboard) is not pc style at all.... its all running through a console style input.... theres basiclly no aiming the guns at all (auto aim).... and when do u aim (during sniper levels) the crosshair jumps around like its on a console.... you dont even have full control directly from the mouse. The progression of the story is pretty dumb too......it makes me wonder how much of a role the bowchowski brothers actually played in the development of this game.

Plus this game lags like crazy.... i have twice the recommended requirements, (2.26ghz, 1GB ram, gf4-ti4200 128mb) and the game lags really bad even in 640x480 with shadows turned off. It seems like they did no pc optimizations at all! total console port.... its as if im running a ps2 copy via emulator on pc... its sad.

The only 2 decent things about this game (which is what saves it from being a total flop) are the sound (which sounds very nice on my Audigy) and the kungfo moves. Other than that this game is dumb.

Summary: Seems as if they rushed a glitchy game out
Review: Granted, I have only been playing this game for a few days, but I have noticed several annoying glitches that are probably due to the game being rushed out the door to coincide with the film's release.
Specifically, characters continue to walk when you are not holding buttons down - it is impossible for the characters to just "stand there" and hide. during one of the car scenes, the oncoming cars were all bouncing up and down like lowriders. I accidentally fell off a bridge in the car and ended up "under the map" - driving under and through buildings until I had to restart the level. Several police officers have been observed running into walls, and just continuing to run, head against wall.
Anyone looking at buying this game should also be aware that you need a MINIMUM of an 800 Mhz Computer.
I am going to continue to play, of course - Being a huge Matrix fan, that simple fact guarrantees the game will sell well, but It is impossible to be immersed in a quality gaming experience with so many glaring faults being thrown in your face.

Summary: this game had soooo much potential...
Review: Not to say that some of it isn't fun. The kung fu moves are the most fluid and realistic i have ever seen. But all i do is button smashing. I really haven't learned how to compine buttons together to make awesome combos that i planned out. And to sit down and try to figure out how to do just this doesn't really work out either. The focus thing is overrated, helps alot when firing a gun...but their are hardly any special fighting moves that you get with using it. (only like jumping off wall and kicking someone). I like the way the agents were designed. They block moves in a realistic fasion. rent before buying. Its better to get in on consol, even if graphics are better for pc since the game is for hitting buttons. Not much sniper work involed. The driving parts of the game is soo [messed] up. Its so stupid, all of the cars are bouncing around like pimp mobiles. anyway, its fun for what it is.
