And you feel so proud of yourself when you figure soemthing out all by yourself. and its not super hard so you dont get frustrated i would recomend this game for 12 and older if your into this sort of thing!
Rating: Summary: Wish I could review it Review: Love to be able to review this title, as I loved realMYST so much, but three weeks after purchase game has still not arrived. Extremely disappointed in Amazon and companion retailers.
Rating: Summary: Curiosity Review: John Hodge wrote '...mine is the generation that travels the world in search of something we haven't tried before. So never refuse an invitation, never resist the unfamiliar, never fail to be polite, and never outstay your welcome. Just keep your mind open and suck in the experience, and if it hurts, you know what, it's probably worth it.' This is the perfect thesis for 'Riven'. The sequel to the ground-breaking game 'Myst', 'Riven' finds you once again with Atrus, the man you rescued in the 'Myst'. He has a new mission for you. Capture his evil father in a prison book, rescue his wife, Catherine, and open the star fissure. There are a few problems. First off, finding Atrus' father is harder than it sounds; second Atrus may be holding back information from you; and third, Catherine is considered a goddess, what has her time away from Atrus done to her? When you first find yourself in Riven, an Age made up of five islands you are imprisoned, your prison book stolen, and no clues but what you find in Atrus' journal. The first island requires you to think like an archaeologist, find the clues and discover the true nature of Atrus' father's work. The second island requires you to find unusual links between the animals and the villagers. While at the same time learning all about the reclusive villagers themselves. On the third island you must work a complicated set of levers, pipes, and more levers to gain access to Atrus' father's abandoned lab. The fourth island is an enigmatic challenge that will unlock the mysteries you've gathered clues on thus far. And the fifth island requires you to face Atrus' father, Catherine, and determine the fate of the people of Riven. It is a marvelous chase, hours of puzzle-working, and about three stenopads of notes. The five-disc 'Riven' makes 'Myst' looks like a baby toy. Fantastic graphics, marvelous sound, and a world where everything nothing is useless and everything is a clue.
Rating: Summary: Saving the world Review: Out of the three Myst games Riven is definitly my favorite. In Riven you were in an inhabited world where you actually saw people, and felt that you were in a world where people actually lived, more so than with the other two games. Plus I don't know about you but theres something very satisfactory about saving a civilization from destruction. I also think that Riven is the most beautiful of all the Myst games. The Moiety age (the one featured on the cover of the game) Was awesome. The puzzles are hard, but if you think about it long enough it will come to you. I've played this game five times, and it hasn't gotten boring.
Rating: Summary: WARNING:IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS XP!!! Review: WARNING: Holiday season is upon us - The DVD version of this game (RIVEN) as well as its sequals EXILE and MYST do not work with Windows XP especially if you have Quicktime 3.0 or higher. We contacted the company though thier website and they have no intention of upgrading or providing drivers for said games to accomodate users. By their own suggestion at CYAN and RED-ORB and PRESTO is if you have purchased these games and they do not work take them back to the store and see if you can get your money back. Unless the compatibilty with any game produced by this company specifically says it is XP compatible DO NOT PURCHASE IT> Thanks
Rating: Summary: 5 cds of movies + bugs + insane puzzels = bad Review: Being the Myst fan I am, I got Riven the first day of release. I popped it into my CD player, and was greeted by the intro movie - TWICE. Thats right, every movie in the game played twice for me. Although there was a patch released later to fix the game, such a major bug is inexcusible. Bugs aside, the game world was too big. That is usually a good thing, but Riven had far to many screens and movies to make detailed exporation fun. It took about ten minutes for me to travel from one island to the other - which brings me to the next problem. There are no explorable ages in Riven, only the five island. The fun of Myst was unlocking each age and exploring it. Each age had its own "theme," and look different from the other ages and the island of Myst. In Riven, All five islands are rocky and brown. The water looks nice (it actually ripples in Riven), but the unchanging scenery gets old very fast. Lastly Riven is over five CDs. meaning you'll be pressing the eject button quite often. Changing CDs ruins what little "emmersion" there is to be found in Riven.
Rating: Summary: Riven Review: Excellent. Sound story line, great graphics and challenging puzzles. Although I found I had to cheat just a little using the Universal Hint System on the Net. All in all it is well worth the purchase.
Rating: Summary: Fast and Informative! Review: This software was received very quickly, and I appreciated the prompt service. The seller also provided E-Mail documentation concerning the order so I knew what to expect, and I felt confident that I was dealing with someone who practiced the highest business ethics. The software is in perfect condition, and this will give us many weeks or months of enjoyment. Just was we need for the upcoming winter months!
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Graphics!! Review: This game has exquisite scenes in the Myst land that you inhabite. Riding the new age "rollercoaster"-like-ride and mine car are very fun. The plot was interesting and challenging. It could be considered hard. But it is worth it when you move on to the next scene or the next "land."
Rating: Summary: Pure entertainment! Review: Riven is quite a far step up from Myst and requires some experience with Myst beforehand in order to sucessfully navigate throughout the game. This is yet another masterpiece of the Myst trilogy with it's interaction with characters and a whole new batch of intriguing yet infuriating puzzles that toy with the mind. I found Riven rather enjoyable mainly because it kept my brain hard at work and of course the graphics kept me entertained while I pondered on what to do next. If you liked Myst, Riven is most definitely worth a try!
