Summary: Gorgeous graphics
Review: This game has stunning scenery that changes continuously. You are drawn into the world and mystery of Riven, and the storyline is great, too. The only bad thing is, the game is frustratingly hard, but alot of fun to try and figure out.

Summary: Very Hard
Review: I think the game is VERY HARD. To you young people, unless you are really smart and are great at solving puzzles, this is not a game for you. It took me forever just to figure out what was going on and I even had to buy a cheat book to finish the game. I also thought it was a little boring, just a little bit. So, if you want a game with extremely hard puzzles and slightly boring plot, this is your game.

Summary: Intriging with great graphics, as good as Myst.
Review: The graphics were beautiful. I thought that it was sort of hard to figure puzzles out, I had to get some Internet help, but it wasn't any harder than Myst. The graphics are certainly better than in Myst! I recommend this to those who like to just wander around, take their time and look at the beauty of the world that is created.

Summary: Beautiful game, with excellent (and hard!) puzzles
Review: Once again you put your hand to the book, and enter another world...this time, Riven, in an effort to find the wife of your host. Yes, it's still basically a slide show, and yes, there really aren't any other people to interact with, but it's still beautifully drawn, with gorgeous environments to explore, and atmospheric music to soothe you.

Summary: The Best! This is a game that keeps you wanting more.
Review: Riven is a game that is as maddening as it is fun. This game has so many twists and turns that you really need to take notes just to stay on top of the mystery. You actually participate in the action around you, and getting to the end is a rush the player(you) will never forget.

Summary: A beautiful, immersive experience that sets a new standard.
Review: There are very few computer games I enjoy. I'll buy a popular title thinking "I need to know what everyone's talking about," get it home, start playing it, and it just seems trivial and boring. So far, the only games that have kept my attention are Half-Life and Riven. While Half-Life grabs you with an adrenaline rush and doesn't let go, Riven is the opposite. It's like taking a peaceful, relaxing vacation in a beautiful realm that is part John Muir, part Jules Verne, part Windham Hill. After a particularly annoying day at work, I found it relaxing and satisfying to spend time simply wandering around Riven, taking in the beautiful scenery and listening to the beautiful music.

The puzzles and plot were fun (if not always logical; did the submarine have any practical purpose? Well...no, but it was really cool.... And what was the deal with the marbles and the industrial press? But, they were still really...cool.), but what kept drawing me back to Riven was the inventiveness, detail, and beauty of the world the brothers Miller and their colleagues created. That is what makes Riven an enchanting experience long after you've rescued Catherine and saved the inhabitants. After "the game" is over, you can always return to Riven and just breathe in the beauty.

Summary: Amazing
Review: This game has one of the most amazing storylines ever. It follows the story of Atrus. He asks you to capture his evil father, Gehn, who has imprisoned Atrus' wife, Catherine. You must also rescue Catherine from her cell. This might not seem like a great storyline, but once you get deep into the game, the plot will thicken, and much more will be revealed to you. Another great feature in this game is the graphics. They are the most realistic graphics ever. The textures in the game are unbelievable. The puzzles in this game, unlike like what other people say, are completely logical. If you just use your brain, then you will get somewhere in the game. Highly recommended.

Summary: If you love puzzles and mystery--play this game!
Review: This is an excellent game--more of an interactive story, really. If you prefer lots of action and violence, this game is DEFINATELY not for you. There's nobody trying to kill you and nobody to blow up. If puzzles and mystery are your thing, and you prefer brains over brawn, you should love Riven! Attention to detail are amazing and Robyn Miller's music is beautiful. (It's a good thing CDs don't wear out, or my Myst soundtrack would be long gone!) My only complaint is that it was too short! I didn't want it to end, which I cannot say about any other game I've played in this genre (except Myst!). Even if they don't create any more games in the Myst/Riven setting, I hope Cyan keeps creating games like them.

Summary: Amazing, but in the end you feel best things lie beyond
Review: A breathtaking game, a masterpiece of artwork. I write down this after scrolling through other some 50 reviews, several months after playing the game (I borrowed it and passed it on; din't come back, so was looking to reviewing it if you're a fan of action games. In the meantime has been a good choice even if you care for side aspects as graphics and sound (Stars! has virtually no graphics but is addicting and endlessly hyerarchically, so you don't get stuck, and as you discover the complexity of the design, you gain in understanding. The frustrating thing are all achieving the goal, on the other side give you glimpses of a whole universe that lies just beyond your reach, making you long for and denying knowledge at the same time. Philosophical standpoint or just marketing strategy I found the older more difficult to solve and less enjoyable, because the riddles were not interlinked, needed a couple of cheats (the floating chest!). I didn't find the finals in the new one particularly intriguing, after the build up of the tension throughout the game, they leave you whith a feeling of void , like you've got nowhere. Preferred the MYST's one, more artistically balanced and coherent with the concept.

My types of game are more CivII and Blade Runner (remember Master of Magic? best ever), but if you like thinking while you play and expect a deeply-designed context around the game-plot, this one is a must, you can't miss it!
