Rating: Summary: I Can't Stop Playing This Game!!!!!!!!!! Review: I was so looking forward to a fun game to play this winter and here it is!! This game is extremely difficult at first until you get used to all the functions on the keyboard and mouse. I'm sure this game is much easier to play on a console. But, regardless, I can't stop playing this game!! Even though I finished it, I keep coming back to replay all the levels because they are so fun!! I'm normally not a 'hack and slash' kind of gamer, but I'm having a blast! Some of the higher levels have taken me some time to realize what exactly I'm supposed to do. There is a strategy guide available by Prima if you get stuck. Most of the time you can hit the ESC button once or twice to pass on the movie cuts if you don't want to watch them. What else can I say, it's just so fun!! I've enjoyed every level so far (my favorites being Shelob's Lair, Cirith Ungol, Top of the Wall, The Courtyard, Pelennor Fields, and the Black Gate). I can play the Pelennor Fields, Courtyard, and Black Gate over and over and it's still so much fun!! I have spent hours on this game and didn't even know that much time has passed. I did discover one helpful hint on "Road to Isengard". When you get to the part with the Ents, stand off to the side and let the Ents destroy all the orcs for you; that way you don't have to lose any of your strength. If you want to gain the most points and experience, you need to learn to use your 'killing move' or 'finishing move' to gain valuable points.
Rating: Summary: 3rd Best game ive ever played Review: Ive played alot of action games such as all the Command and Conquer games and Medal of Honor. This is not the best game ive ever played but is one of the most detailed games ive ever played. In this game they Use the characters of the movie to do the voices of the characters in the game. The characters almost look exactly like they do in the movie. The movie clips are awsome if only theyd let you skip them (sometimes you can click your mouse and skip them). Some people say this game stinks just because you cant skip the movie clips. The graphics and detail are the best! The bad thing though is you need a very very good computer if you dont want to expierience any lag. I recommend a computer that has at least 1-3 GHz. Dont listen to those gamers who cant stand the challenge of an awsome game.(some people said it took a few hours to do one level which I dont buy) Sure some levels are pretty long, but hey the longer the better! Who likes those games that take an hour or 2 to beat? GET THIS GAME TODAY!
Rating: Summary: WhoaaaaH! Review: OK, I lose interest in pretty much every game in about 2 -5 days. But ROTK - well, I keep inviting my friend on weekend nights to come over so that we can kill Orcses and such together, and be aragorn and legolas for a couple of hours. If I was to buy but one game, it would be this one. So - go, buy, enjoy, and get obsessed by it! It is SO worth it (excuse my Americanisms!)!
Rating: Summary: If Hack & Slash is your thing . . . this is your game!! Review: I've read all the reviews on Amazon.com and it seems like gamers either love or hate this game. I'll try to put things in perspective. First of all, this is a new game with great graphics. As a result, it requires a pretty powerful PC to run. No different than any of the new games hitting the market these days. That's just the nature of the PC ... the graphics bar keeps raising (and that's not a bad thing!) Second, the game is fun. Simple and fun. The game is very linear so it is hard to get lost. There's no need to invest in a strategy guide to complete the game. You can't jump, strafe or crouch ... just plod forward and mow down any number of middle-earth enemies. I recommend a vibration feedback controller since I found the keyboard and mouse controls a bit cumbersome. Lastly, if you are a fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, this game is a must have. If your not, try the demo or find a friend who will let you test it out before shelling out the money.
Rating: Summary: A KILLER GAME!!! Review: this game is [so] good! i have played many games over my lifetime and the only 3 games better than this is (...) the graphics are so real i would give them 5 out of 5 the sound is like the movies 5 out of 5 the gameplay is a little confusing at times but it is good . 4 out of 5 the camera angles...lets put it this way ive seen better 2 out of 5 so this is a very good game to play
Rating: Summary: Too difficult Review: I bought this game because I'm a die-hard fan of the books and the movies, and at first I was impressed with the graphics and sounds of the game.Problem is, the game is TOO DIFFICULT! Even on easy, I spend hours and hours trying just to get through one level. The enemy A.I. is decent, but when playing as Aragorn, don't even think about getting any help from Gimli or Legolas - it's as if they don't even exist. Not only are the levels too difficult, but without any kind of quick save or level save, it makes gameplay very frustrating indeed. In addition, the cutscenes drive me insane. They are very well made and add a lot to the gameplay, but it doesn't help when your character cannot move during the cutscene but the enemies can. During one level, a cutscene would take place with my character not able to move, then when it returns to gameplay I already have 4 or 5 enemies hacking away at my character with hardly a chance of defense. Finally, the camera angles are very difficult, and even freeze up at one point to where my character disappears off screen, being hacked away by baddies, and I have to try and escape and run off in some other direction to get the camera to follow me again. This game has tons of potential - too bad the game developers spent most of their efforts making a beautiful looking game instead of a playable one.
Rating: Summary: Great graphics, Not too hard to control Review: It is interesting to hear that some people find this game extremely easy while some think it is extremely hard. I found the game become much easier once I upgrade my weapons and I learn how to parry enemy's attack. Gameplay (8/10): It is fun to finish the missions in this game. You do not just kill enemy in this game. Instead, you have to accomplish certain missions. You have to block enemy's invasion, save civilians, etc. Even better, the game allows two players. However, the game has two slight flaws. First, the missions are sometimes confusing, and I had to play several times before I understood what I should do in a level. Second, similar to the plot of the movie itself, massive explosion zillions of the enmeies appears at the same time. Therefore, the graphics looks awesome, but it is confusing to play. Graphics (10/10): The best graphics I have ever played. They include cutscenes from the movie. However, as I have mentioned the graphics can hinder the visibility of the battlefields, and it sometimes causes confusions. Control (8/10): Easy to control if you have a gamepad. However, playing it with keyboard can be very hectic. Difficulty (7/10): I think that the game is slightly difficult. Most of the time I have to use all eight buttons in my gamepad. Remember, mastering how to parry is extremely important in the game. Storyline (9/10): I heard that the game follows the plot of the book better than the movie. Overall, it is a great game. Compared to other 3D action games in PS2, I think it is a much better game.
Rating: Summary: I cand belibe it Review: Dis is stupid. mi computer is not good enough to run this video. they did not say I would need a cd-whatever drive. All i have is a floppy drive. other then not having the cd, my computer is really high tech. My cousin said it is the newest technology. It has 23 mb of harddrive. and 16 mb of ramm. I can't believe it. Do not buy if even the newest and best computer can not play it.
Rating: Summary: Decent -- A disappointment in many ways. :-/ Review: Let me start by saying that this game ROCKS because it's LotR. The graphics a great, the animations are crisp, and it's fun to use combos. That's about it. I have only beaten the first level (Helm's Deep, as Gandalf) -- I can't get through half of 'Road to Isengard', I die almost immediately on "Escape from Osgiliath", and I haven't even made it past the Paths of the Dead. It's not very true to the movie -- You have to fight 80 some-odd warriors of the dead in the first level of the Path of the King (not all at once), then fight the King of the Dead, then fight MORE warriors as the mountain collapses on top of you (I only got that far playing co-op with my brother). Not to mention that the warriors never attack your companions -- they go straight for you while whoever the computer good guys are watch without concern. Legolas occasionally shoots but never kills anyone unless you're playing as him. I can't comment on the later levels because I can't make it that far. Other deviations from the movie: Gandalf has to fight his way through 150 orcs and Uruk-hai at Isengard and then help the ents destroy the dam -- he wasn't even there in the movie or the book. It's awesome to see Aragorn, Legolas, or Gimli hack their way through the bad guys, but could we do it with decent gameplay? And the camera angles cannot be changed by you -- sometimes you have to fight while the camera points straight down on top of you, and when you're running out of the Paths of the dead, you constantly run towards the camera -- half the time you can't even see anything but dust!! How can you run when you can't see where you're going? You have to hold down straight and hope for the best. And one other thing -- The Uruk-Hai's weapons and shields are ridiculously big -- the Uruk's swords are about 6 feet long (Regular Uruks here...) and the shields about 5.5 feet... Co-op mode gets a lot easier because one of your companions can do something -- Although Easterling bosses are super tough to wound at Pellenor fields, and it's hard to figure out what to do to take down the Mumakil. (Hint: if you can, kill the Fell Beast -- you will automatically beat the level earlier than expected.
Rating: Summary: 25+ year gamer; A review Review: I played and loved Lord of the Rings:The Two Towers on Play Station 2 and would give it 5 stars. I had only rented that console for a week during travel, but am usually a pc gamer. When I saw the Return of the King was going to be released for the pc and that it would support multiplay I was ecstatic. And I have been only slightly dissapointed. The gameplay, graphics and cut sequences are awesome, as they were in the two towers. The ability to choose different characters and build them up was great. As other reviewers have mentioned, I played with a game controller rather than the mouse and keyboard, though it was manageable without. I was slightly dissatisfied with a couple of key features of the game: the difficulty and added length of a couple of the levels, especially in coop mode, and the multiplayer options. First, as other reviewers have also mentioned, some of the levels are fairly difficult, and more importantly, frustratingly long. The hall of the king should have been cut in half for normal and easy play. Others had obstacles that you couldnt figure out especially in coop mode as both players had to be fortunate enough to move across a certain bridge at EXACTLY the same time or else be instantly killed after taking 10-15 harrowing minutes getting to that point in the level. It became exceedingly frustrating very quickly. This game should not have been so reliant on the slightest of timing and movements outside of combat. Getting stuck on a wall was easy to do and occured almost every level, and was doom for the timed levels. Second, the multiplay should have been networkable for the PC version. The PS2 should not have been the only console with that option when the PC is the natural choice. COOP mode just is not as fun or versatile. But I'm glad it was there over the single play of two towers. Overall another well made game by EA who have made some of the best PC games I have played along with Blizzard and Sierra. EA just needs to step up on their sequels; none of them have been as good as their predecessors. This one minus a few flaws is close to the exception. Rent/buy it and enjoy!
