Summary: Medal of Honor is better than Halo
Review: I finished playing Halo. Not the greatest of games. I just started playing Medal of Honor, Breakthrough add-on. This game rocks! Medal of Honor is way better than Halo. Not to mention I can crank up the video settings and have it run excellent. On Halo, I have it turned down and it still runs choppy. And the minimum requirements are a 733? Go buy Medal of Honor.

Summary: Lots of hype, not to much game...
Review: Well, I bought it. Not owning an xbox, I was excited to own Halo, but now... I don't think I am. First off, I beat it in under 2 days, the only reason I didnt beat it in one day was because I didnt start playing until around 10 at night, so I had to sleep, then woke up the next morning and beat it before noon. Hmm. Short. Now, the story is ... not so good. I am a half life fanatic, and I was hoping the story could at least replicate HL. Nope, not much story. Bland indoor structures, Great outdoor scenes. My last gripe, I consider my computer system to be pretty decent. Athlon XP 2800+, BFG Asylum 5600 Ultra AGP 8x ddr 128mb, 512mb DDR pc2700 Kingston Ram. And yet, I still got interesting frame rates. However, I got GREAT frame rates when I turned off specular. Specular killed my system, once it was off it ran peachy, even on high res 1280x1024 high textures and everything it ran great as long as specular is turned off, go figure. Well, overall, I would recommend borrowing this one from a friend, or at least waiting until it is about 30 dollars.

Summary: Halo Single Player OK, Multiplayer Disappointing
Review: Being a non-owner of Xbox, I eagerly awaited the Halo experience on PC. True, when expectations are high, it often results in a let down - as it did with Halo.

SINGLE PLAYER - 3.5 out of 5

It's not to say that Halo isn't fun. It is. However, I was expecting better. The highly acclaimed "story" is, in my opinion, rather weak. From what I had read and heard from Xbox owners, I had expected a "Deus Ex" type story experience. Not even close. The story is rated a 3.

I had also expected highly developed memorable characters. Again not true. To be fair, however, the story and characterization is "above average" for a FPS. But it is just not at the level I had expected. Characterization rates a 3.

Playability is fairly good. The weapon selections and effects are solid. Movement and customization was adequate. The mouse and keyboard playability was typical for a FPS. There were some glitches, however. The vehicles handle more poorly than I had expected. There are also a few clipping problems and slowdowns, even with a high-end machine. I rate playability 3.5

Graphics were good. But, again, not quite at the level I had expected. Maybe it was unfair to compare the graphics right after playing Unreal II. The audio was very good. Graphics and audio rate a 4.

MULTIPLAYER - 2 out of 5

Multiplayer is a huge disappointment. I had read many reviews which claimed multiplayer to be far and away the BEST thing about Halo. For PC, the opposite is true. First, I would suggest you tweak your settings to achieve the best performance possible. Slowdown is a killer in Multiplayer FPS. Even on the lowest settings, tweaked, and a 530 Kbs DLS line, I still have lag problems. And lag is not good. Halfway through a tunnel, I suddenly find myself outside. Opponents suddenly disappear right in front of me. I walk close to a ledge and then find myself dead from falling off. I shoot an opponent in the chest with a missile, only to find out he was 20 yards ahead of where I see him on the screen. Not good.

The most frustrating thing about multiplayer is the lack of any type of system to boot off game ruiners. EVERY team based game I have played had "betrayers." Not only do you have to battle opponents, but also the very immature idiots on your own team that try to kill you. There appears to be no recourse for such behavior and the develops appear to refuse to do anything about it. It's a complete joke.

There are also problems with the physics. Quite often I shoot a missile at a vehicle, which tumbles it into the air, only to have the vehicle suddenly right itself and keep going as if nothing happened.

Needless to say, I am very disappointed in the multiplayer experience.

Overall, I give Halo a rather generous 3 out of 5.

Summary: Halo Average Game at best
Review: I just completed the game. I have a 1300mzh Athlon with 384mb ram and ati 9000 pro video. All drivers are updated and the game ran a little choppy. I finally just gave in and accepted it. Driving the vehicles is fun, the guns are cool, but you're only allowed to have 2 guns at a time, which is a bummer compared to most games. The real pain is not being allowed to save in a certain section so if you die, you go all the way back to where the last checkpoint was.

I don't understand why some people just rave about this game. It was fun, but not enough to rave about. I paid $40 for the game, it's only really worth about $20.

I just had too many crashes and issues in the beginning. This was the worst game I've ever played that had so many issues. It's worse when you consider it's a "Microsoft" game. Don't buy until it's cheap...

Summary: Just isn't the same...
Review: If you want to play Halo, go buy an Xbox. Trust me, it's worth every penny, and you get money back when Halo 2 ships.

After getting this game I was very dissapointed in it's performance. The game runs better on my Xbox than my higher-end PC. I don't have the latest and greatest, but with a 2.0GHz P4, 1024MB RAM, GeForce FX 5600 128MB VRAM I have trouble running at 640x480 and all effects turned off. At the "suggested" settings my average framerate is 15fps, pitiful!

I contacted Microsoft for support and after finding somebody I could actually understand, and spending an hour on the phone with him, I got nowhere. The guy just didn't get it, or didn't have a clue what was wrong. I'm planning on calling again, but I doubt it will help.

The new features added to Halo PC really are not worth the hassle. Sure, a banshee in multiplayer is pretty cool, but the controls for both it and the warthog are a little odd. The best addition to the game is the fuel rod gun... hope they keep that in Halo 2.

Regarding the level design... Yes the second half of the game is pretty repetitive and there isn't any real excuse for this other than this: Bungie was under extreme pressure from Microsoft to release the game as soon as possible, and because of this they ran out of time to design levels. The fact that the game was as good as it was is a real tribute to Bungie. Microsoft is making it up to them and the gaming world by allowing Bungie to take as much time as they need to finish Halo 2, which will kick serious ass. Just wait.

Summary: Why is everyone having trouble playing this great game???
Review: Apparently, about half of the people who bought this game are having trouble running it at a decent framerate, despite their powerful operating specs. I have an Athlon XP that operates at 1.8, a Radeon 9600 Pro, 512 ram, and Windows XP. I haven't experienced any problems getting 100+ frames per second with details maxed at 800x600, even though my system is practically ancient compared to those who have complained about framerates running on a 3.2ghz machine with a 256MB graphics accelerator. I know for a fact that getting DirectX 9.0b can cause a huge improvement in framerate. Perhaps those hampered with this unseen problem should contact Bungie or Gearbox before they write a biased review based on their inexplicable and nonsensical machine performances. Oh, and i haven't gotten any lag online that's worse than any other game, like UT2003 or Medal of Honor. Give this game a try, you won't regret it. Until you meet me online. See ya there.

Summary: It works without lag on my FIVE year old Computer
Review: First of all I started with the demo because my computer was way below the required. It didn't work. But all I needed was a new graphics card. I bought an ATi Radeon 9000 the next day and now the demo and the full version work perfectly. No Lag and my computers info is: Intel Celeron 433MHZ, 128MB SDRAM, 40 Gig Hard Drive, 64MB DDR ATi Radeon 9000 for AGP 2x, 32x CD Drive. Mine works without Lag on the internet and look at that processer (433MHZ). And all my settings set to highest. Shadows and Reflections are turned on. And with a resolution of 1280x1024. You Should Buy it I get outstanding performance from a FIVE YEAR OLD (1998) Computer with only about $200 worth of upgrades. The only thing that I needed to replace at the time of purchase was my graphics card. I have Sound and Video set to the highest on everything.(30FPS(Frames per second))

Summary: Great FPS for its time...
Review: But releasing it so late for the PC makes it an unworthy competitor to today's top FPS games like UT2003/Unreal 2, America's Army: Operations, the upcoming AA: Special Forces, and other FPS games.

Halo multiplayer is also extremely flawed. In Blood Gulch, good banshee pilots will simply start spawn killing and the opposing team won't be able to get a foothold in the battle (CTF).

Or worse, you have team killers who also ruin the fun.

The banshee and warthog interface isn't what I expected.

If they used the Descent engine for the Banshee, and Rallisport Challenge for the Warthog, then it'd be one heck of a game.

Overall, it's not worth the money to buy this game since it's already 2 years old. Save your money for something up to date and more fun.

Summary: Bets FPS for the PC
Review: This review is for those poor people that are still playing the klunky style graphics of Half-Life. This game will be the answer to your prayers.First off the graphics are awesome but make sure your system can handle it.The campaign or the single player mode will be a introduction to HALO.The weapons and the vehicles will be a little confusing because there are advantages and disadvantages to each weapon. For example the Convenant (the evil alien race) have different style weapons. There weapons rely on the power core and the charge of the weapon to use it.Except the Needler which is ammo fed.The humans rely on magazines or ammo to use their weapons. Then there are the vehicles which amaze me. Again there are disadvantages and advantages to each vehicle. The convenant vehicles are a little different. They have the Ghosts,Banshees, and the heavy tank but you wont get to use it even in Multiplayer. The ghost is a light vehicle with plasma guns personally i hate this vehicle the most beacuse it rolls over too easily. The Banshees are one of the coolest vehicles in the game. It can fly! It also has 2 different weapons the plasma guns and the fuel rod which you cannot fire continuesly. The humans have the warthogs(2 types) and the Scorpion. The warthogs are a jeep like vehicle that can fit 3 people. But each person has a different job. A driver a gunner and a side seater or back up shooter. The scorpion is a tank. It moves slow but fires heavy weapons. The missile which reloads after one shot and a machine gun that is inaccurate but powerful. Youll have fun using all the vehicles. The last and maybe the very last part is the Multiplayer. This allows u to play over the internet or a host a game youself. The only con of this is that if someone has a lagging connection or if you do, then u will lag which means u will either be walking and walking but u keep going going back to where u started or u will not be able to move at all. This will leave u vulnerable to a person that can cap u in the head. Overall I give this game a 5 out of 5 and buy it on Amazon cuz i payed 50 bucks and u have to pay 40!
