Rating: Summary: Ahh the end of Domains! Review: Windows 2000 Server is the first major step in becoming a true business tool. With Active Directory, you finally have a decent tool that will get rid of the cursed Network Neighborhood! I had to train the community that just because you don't see it in NN, does not mean it is not there!!!!! You will be able to eliminate domains with the advent of Organizational Units! A HUGE improvement is the conversion to Dynamic Domain Name Services. Now your DHCP will register the computer name in DNS. This is a god send in that if you use tools like timbuktu, you don't have to worry about what IP is in use. The new tools and directory services greatly reduce managment. However, it is not an easy conversion to AD, plan it well and you will have little or no problems. Just install it and you might finder yourself working on it for awhile! It is a worth while upgrade from the old NT domain structure!
Rating: Summary: A huge improvement. Review: This is a little late now that 2003 is coming out. However, for people wondering, this is a rock solid OS. Blue Screens of Death are rare now. It is plug and play so installs are easy! Microsoft is well on the road to providing a decent OS. Mind you this is comming from a person who is not a fan of the company. Now this is not a gaming OS! If you have games that were written for 98, the probably will not work or will work badly! If you program, you can't go wrong! It is a huge improvement over NT. However, with all things, there are somethings that you have to do! Get the service packs and the hot fixes! Also, there are some extra stuff that gets installed such as the media player. Microsoft hid the uninstaller in the original release. IF you get Service Pack 4, it will correct that.. This is worthwhile just to get rid of BSODs and if you have a laptop running NT, you have to change over! However, XP it probably a better choice! For games, look into XP!
Rating: Summary: PRODUCT DISPLAYED AND LABELED IS NOT PRODUCT DISPLAYED Review: WINDOWS 2000 SERVER with five License is described as product for sale. This is NOT correct. The DISPLAY shows the WINDOWS 2000 SERVER box as the product to be purchased. Even the requirements make no metion of what is required for the product being sold. What IS be sold is the WINDOWS CLIENT LICENSE PAK. Which comes from microsoft with a COMPLETELY diferent container than what is being sold. This is the CLIENT LICENSE PAK only no software or manuls are included. That is because the product is WINDOWS CLIENT LICENSE PAK only. PLEASE CHANGE the title and your DISPLAY of the product to WINDOWS CLIENT LICENSE PAK
Rating: Summary: This is a horrible operating system! Review: Windows 2000 does not run any computer games at all! If you want a operating system that runs Computer games, I recommend Windows 98 or XP. Do not buy Windows 2000. Its a waste of money. You will regret if you buy it.
Rating: Summary: should you upgrade to a higher version? Review: I've used win95, win98, nt, 2000pro and xp. As much as 2kPro is my prefered windows environment, it is sufficiently old that most users should seriously consider the more recent windows versions instead.
Rating: Summary: ... Review: It's cludgy, unreliable and highly vulnerable to security breaches; for much less money there are far more intelligent choices.
Rating: Summary: Windows 2000 is absolutely wonderful! Review: After years of rebooting, I finally made the decision to upgrade to Windows 2000. I consulted others and did my homework to get ready. I did the upgrade with only a few problems. These were due to other software. I would recommend that you definitely remove ZoneAlarm completely from your computer, if you have it. The programs's uninstall did not work properly and I finally found another program to remove it. It would not let me get on the Internet to download IE patches. After this was resolved, I have not had any problems with it. It never hangs up. I also bought a huge reference manual that had shown me some wonderful new options. This is the best operating system available. That's my humble opinion.
Rating: Summary: Surprising Reliability Review: A lot of people like to make negative comments about Microsoft's Product Reliability, but let me tell you, I installed this piece of software for my small business and Wow!!! Everything is running smooth. We are getting far more done than we previously did with that "open source" Linux Nonsense. I haven't had any problems as of yet! Microsoft says up-time of five nines, but I say 100% !!!
Rating: Summary: Access 2000 is incredible Review: I've programmed for 6 years in visual basic and oracle. I purchased my copy of access 2000 and continue building applications faster and better. I love the development environment for creating forms, reports, and vb code in access 2000. Its so easy and no class structures.
Rating: Summary: blue screen, what blue screen? Review: if youve used windows Me or lower (98,95) then you know what a blue screen is. and when you see it, you know exsactly what it means....the blue screen of death. and you get them a lot with lower windows, a crash here a crash there, fatal exception errors...well most users are familiar with those. now windows 2000....it will run for months without even a scqeek. i mean NONE. its is highly stable, great to use, very fast, secure for businesses, or even for home users with a network or even in one computer you can encrypt a file and only you can use it. it handles multiple users very well. once you use it you can never go back to anything else. now you might want ot get XP because its newer, but even XP doesnt quiet live up to 2000Pro's standards from what i have experienced. now its gotten the third service pack that you can use it for almost anything. Gamers would find it quiet great for gaming on, though it may not have been designed for this it certainly handles my Diablo 2 very well. do not be afraid to get this one for one bit...
