Summary: ME, or how downloadable drivers can be sold for big bucks
Review: First there was windows 95...in 1998 there was win98, in 1999 MS released WIn98 Second Edition, and then an all new Windows?!

not.....

OK, in my humble opinion Windows ME is just windows 95, 4th edition. After five years of having the same user interface, they're close to getting it right. Furthermore they have included some new drivers for some new hardware, and a few minor apps to make video and stuff...

All in all not very exciting and nothing more than your average run-of-the-mill (FREE!) Linux update. Certainly not worth the money.....

And if only it would crash less....alas!

I realize this might sound like someone who drinks vinegar for breakfast, but I'm pretty sure only very few people find what they really NEED in Windows ME.

Just think about what you really need in an Operating System, and check what you can download from the internet. After all, the newest drivers can also be found at the site of the manufacturer. Also, Windows Media Player 7 (like anyone wants to use that!) and Internet Explorer 5.5 can be downloaded for free from the web, so what's the point of spending your valuable dollars on this misfit?

Summary: This is a piece of garbage
Review: A waste of money and plasic. The installation was a nightmare. After I finally got the system up and running, I walked away from it for 10 minutes, came back to only find the "Blue screen of death" waiting for me. And then periodically, I'll walk away and come back to find the entire system has frozen, mouse and everything. This is all Bull Sh--. Come on Microsoft, we made you the company you are by buying your crap, stop marketing unstable crapware. (Thank god for Linux) If your upgrading from win98 make sure you take out anything that automatically starts up, ie. startup folder, run registry key. Also uninstall any anti-virus software and disable any networking you have for a login. Bottom line is: If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Summary: Hit ME Baby One More Time
Review: A titanic waste of money. After I loaded this thing onto my computer, the machine acted as if I infected it with a hundred different viruses. Nothing worked well, especially the internet browser (machine froze a dozen different times). I suspect that you will need a minimum of 64mB RAM (the box says 32) and a very high end machine to run Windows ME. This is an extremely overhyped product which does much worse than nothing, it can destroy every aspect of your computer. It was so bad that I had to FORMAT MY HARD DRIVE AND RESINSTALL MY ORIGINAL WINDOWS 98 OS FROM SCRATCH. For 95% of the population that does not have the have the fastest computers, this is a waste of time, money, and will cause migraines until it is totally removed from your system.

Summary: Lasted under 10 hours on my machine...
Review: Wow! Now this is trash. Bought it at 10 am, and just finished uninstalling it 7 pm the same day! The install was going great, although I did have to uninstall Norton Internet Security before I could continue. After the install, my system froze up at least 30 times. I can verify that the boot sequence is very fast, almost non existent having watched it sooooo many times.

Couldn't even get on the internet after I installed it either. Dialed up, verified name and just hung......had to try reinstalling modems, drivers the whole deal.

Uninstall went great so far and as you can tell, I'm back online.

Windows Me----Windows Must eliminate. Or just wait for the WinMe 5th edition. They should have the bugs worked out by then :)

If you had a similar problem with WinMe, let me know if you fixed it.

Summary: Windows ME Actually Gets to Know ME!
Review: Okay so it starts out looking basicly the same as 95 or 98 with the cheesy start up and the basic idea of where programs are located. However, they make you have to change the view on every folder to see all files to do any thing a half advanced user would. Like it took me at least 30 minutes to find out how to see the control pannel! After all the hassles of trying to figure it all out it came time to see how it runs. I still have yet to crash it! Also the start menu now doesn't get all bulky, in fact it slowly shrinks! Windows ME will keep track of programs you use often and ones you might have never touched. It puts all programs you never touch in a side menu that can be accessed by hitting a little button at the bottom of the normal menu. Personaly from everything I've been doing with it, and how it runs and works for me, I'm definatly a strong beleiver in it. I would reccomend this software to any one who really want to keep up to date software. But if you don't want to dish out the cash, I wouldn't blame ya so just stick with 98 untill you are forced to update.

Summary: Great upgrade! If you can get the full version for ... more.
Review: Before I start this also includes all the features that are in Win 98, and 98SE.

Windows ME is more of a home OS than Windows 2000 Pro. It comes with IE 5.5 and Windows Media Player 7, but you can get them for download. This is a smaller upgrade than 3.1 to Win 95 and Win 95 to 98, but is a much bigger upgrade than 98 to 98SE. Movie Maker, WIA, and System File Protection are great features. Also, it has a feature much like GoBack, but it dosen't do all of the things that GoBack does.

As I said in the header, if you got the cash go for the Full Version, beacuse if something goes bad you'd have to install Win 95, 98 or 98SE and then install this.

All and all Windows ME is great upgrade, but if you can get the full version. If you want to play it safe wait for the service pack which should come out in about 3-4 months.

Summary: Worth the upgrade?
Review: This is yet another version of Windows which barely improves on Windows 95. This is basically an update for all the new devices and hardware that are out there. At the core it still works the same as the last couple Windows. I wouldn't recommend buying this unless you have a brand new computer, otherwise, like in my case, it will just slow down your computer even more.

There are some small bonuses to this version though. It does come with some ok games, and improved multimedia capabilities, but most of these you could already download from the microsoft webpage. I have to admit some of the more pestering points to Windows 98 have now been fixed, but I'm sure most users will hardly notice. Many of the changes are just cosmetic, or simplify a certain task.

I have been using this version for about a month now, and sometimes I want to uninstall it, it can really slow things down at times, and it does tend to freeze my computer an aweful lot more than previous versions. All in all, this is good for brand spanking new computers, but for older ones, I would stick with older versions, your system will just run faster.

Summary: WINDOWS ME could change the way we use the PC
Review: Microsoft's Windows ME is the OS that makes life easier for the New Mellenium. With ME Microsoft might actually come out with an OS that is friendly to use and live up to the hype. It will be interesting on how ME leads Microsoft and the PC's into the Next Mellinium.
