Summary: From first to worst...
Review: When I got my new computer from gateway, it came with windows ME. At first, I thought it was better than Windows 98, until I tried to run Microsoft Word 2000. Crash! When ever I try to run any program, 95% of the time it crashes! I had to erase the hard drive and install windows 98!

Review: Windows Me is just a carboard box with a cd inside. This is serioulsy the most horrible version of Windows EVER created. My computer doesn't even function right anymore after I reformatted. Just dont buy this version. If you must buy windows 98 Second Edition. Far better! Now i have to fork out more money to fix my computer. P.S. Dont buy your computer from Best Buy and MicronPC. I spent a good sum for a nice computer and it broke and no one is willing to fix it. They told me a software problem. WINDOWS ME. Thats the biggest problem right there. Save time, Save Money, Save your Nerves, buy another version or get LinuX.

Summary: It's a decent operating system
Review: The only trouble I really had with windows ME was trying to upgrade from windows 95. It wasn't until I had updated every single file on 95 that ME was successful in upgrading. That may have been the only reason that ME wouldn't upgrade when I first loaded 95 onto my system. I tried to do a clean install using the upgrade and got as far as the first reboot and had to reinstall windows again. But once I loaded 95 onto my system, updated all of the 95 files, and got all my hardware and software loaded, I had no trouble getting the upgrade to work. Since I upgraded, I have been very pleased with the way ME works for me. I use Norton System Works 2001 with ME, and it does a fine job of keeping my computer error free. My computer has had zero blue screens since my upgrade. I give this product 4 stars because of the trouble I had trying to install it, but if you can get passed the installation trouble, it proves to be a stable OS. I wouldn't recommend it however, if you have an old machine with older hardware. A lot of things from 1998 on back, are not ME compatible, and ME cannot support a driver for those things either. But any systems, 1999 or newer shouldn't be a problem. What else can I say? I LIKE IT!!!!

Summary: Windows Yuck!
Review: Windows ME has made me Windows SICK! This thing crashes more than a drunk in a game of bumper cars! I can't run multiple programs at the same time without the thing freezing! I'm taking a BIG risk right now because I'm downloading an MP3 as I write this review. This is the second time I have to download it because Windows ME shut down half way through the last time I tried it! (...) Don't buy this junk!

Summary: Crash Test Dummy
Review: Too bad you can't buy insurance for software given how often this program crashes. I have never written a review on anything before, but this program is so pathetic that I felt inclined to warn others. Lets hope that XP saves all of us that got stuck with this software on the computers we bought!!

Summary: Im OK Me's OK
Review: Windows Me is a fine OS, Having an overall snappier feel with quick startup and shutdown routines being a real plus. Also many usb and other newer devices work much better with Me than on 98 and simply wont work on 95B. However the upgrade problem seems to be a universal one. I happen to be an IT service guy and upgrades can be tricky, no matter how sweet Microsoft tries to make it. The biggest problem seems like people are in too big a hurry to run the setup program and ignore the install guide! It is imperative that Utility software(ie, anything from Norton or McAfee, etc.) not only be disabled before the upgrade but should be completely removed! This includes Antivirus programs. And if your copy of 95 or 98 isn't working Tip-Top, FIX IT FIRST. This is an OS upgrade not medicine for a sick PC! And for people having trouble with Win Me that came pre installed on his(her) new PC; PC vendors have a TERRIBLE habit of installing all kinds of ... software which is the culprit to most of the problmes. I would offer this same advice to people upgrading to the new XP as well. If you can afford it, buy the Full version product, back up your data, format you hard disk, then install the new OS is the BEST choice period! Perhaps, then many people will be able to experience these new operating systems the way they are meant to be.

Summary: Good Enough
Review: Windows Me does have installaltion problems, which happened to me -- just crashed in the installation process. But overall, not a bad upgrade, worth the bucks.

Summary: Don't Buy It
Review: I only rated one star because zero stars is not an option. It has taken me six days with a lot of expert help to get back on the internet. Windows ME is a complete waste of time and money. The only good thing I have to say is that Windows ME makes it easy to uninstall. If you buy this product be sure to back up your system files as I can guarantee you will need to go back to your original system. I wanted the upgrade so I could download files from a gift digital camera. (Wouldn't work with Windows 95). I am now getting Windows 98 and will use it to upgrade my system. Suggest this or Windows 2000 and skip Windows ME.

Summary: Consider Windows 2000 Pro Instead
Review: Windows "Me" is very unstable and bug ridden. If you have '95 or '98 then you are better off keeping it.

However, if you have the money for Windows 2000 Pro, go for that.

Summary: Windows ME is just a filler product
Review: I believe Microsoft put this operating system out to not be forgotten during the Linux craze and did not offer up any real solutions to it's stability problems. After the upgrade, I found a lot of software and hardware not compatible with the new sytem. So, if I want to use these products I've paid hundreds of dollars for I have to buy "more compatible stuff"..... I do realize the problems probably lie with the software and hardware manufacturers but Windows ME should have been friendlier with them. Don't buy it and I'm not all too sure about Windows XP. Am I going to have the same problems??? I gave it a two because of it's new multimedia features which I really liked.
