Summary: Minus 3 star rating
Review: I got a new laptop with ME installed. Its a 750 PIII with 128 mb ram and 12. gig harddrive. I've had nothing but trouble with ME since I first booted the machine up. I can't get hardware to work with ME, even though it's listed as ME compatible so far I've tried several different mouse, a printer, digital camera and a zip drive. I've downloaded drivers for the different items and still no luck, I want to go to Windows 2000 but will probably lose some features like FireWire. If you want to ever be able to hook up any addtional hardware to your system then don't get ME.

Summary: BUggy and Unstable 2 hours after use
Review: this, in my opinion, is a pre release of Windows XP, which will be as stable if not more than win 2000, but i ordered a new laptop from Dell with WinMe on it and it started with blue screen errors and random errors within probably 2 hours of use, luckily i could change to WIn2000 from Dell free of charge, it doesn't matter how powerful your coputer even if it is 1.8Ghz P4, WinMe is toatly buggy you get very mad and frustrated with it very quickly,, don't waste you money....

Summary: A terrible experience! a Windows from the first millennium
Review: Actually, the worst operational system I've ever had. I could even say it was one of the worst items I've bough over the past 20 years. The program was always crashing and I had to re-install it more than 10 times. It was impossible to work for a couple of hours without having to reboot the computer. I coulkd never use my web camera, I always got a protection error in a damned MSVCRT file. And for several times the screen would become completely blue due to an obscure unexpected error. After re-installing it for more than 10 times, the system got into a real mess and whenever I did anything I got a message saying Explorer had caused an eror and would be closed. I had to start the computer from the initialçization diskette and lost a lot of information, not to mention that all of my programs, including all of Office programs, stopped working. I had to re-install everything again. This situation happened twice. Windows ME was intended to be a software for the 3rd millennium, but it seems a first millennium abacus would do better. JUT TERRIBLE!

Summary: A terrible experience! a Windows from the first millennium
Review: It was really the worst exeperience I've ever had with an operational system. I think I could even say it was the worst thing I've bought over the past 20 years. I had to re-install the program literally more than 10 times. The system always crashed and it was impossible to work for a couple of hours withot having to reboot the comp for at least 3 times. I could never use my web cam, Windows Me always caused a a strange protection error. For several times the system became abslolutely impossible to use, whenever I did anything I got a message saying explorer has caused an error in a damned MSCVRT file. I had to start the computer using the inicialization diskette and lost a lot of information, not to mention that all my programs, including all of Office applicatives (like Excel and Word) stopped working. Windows ME was intended to be an operational system for the 3rd millennium, but it sems a first millennium abacus would do better.

Summary: Not A Worthy Upgrade If Your PC Doesn't Have The Muscles!
Review: Actually, I've tried and tested all the three Microsoft OS. Windows 95 OSR2, Windows 98SE and Windows ME. For a start, the former of the two requires less from your PC. Secondly, Windows 98SE is the most stable operating system, for now, provide you know how to maintain your PC. This is because, I've upgraded to ME from 98SE and found out that this OS is more resource-hungry than it's predecessor. Having to take so much of your memory and CPU power(of course, provide your PC have the muscle to do all the heavy work throw at you by ME). And when it comes to playing video files, such as VCD, the picture will always be stretched unnaturally. And this problem is only applicable when you are playing a PAL VideoCD. But, if you play an NTSC VideoCD, that shouldn't be a problem. And lastly, it occupies my space on my HDD. To me, Windows ME is not a suitable upgrade if a.)you are prepared to drain your computer's muscle b.)if your PC is capable of doing such heavy work.

On a final note, certain programmes that are found in ME, are borrowed from Windows 2000 Professional. And having said that and after using it, I find that even Windows 2000 fares better than ME, in overall performance.

So, people, if you have 98SE, stick with. They are still your "best friend".

Summary: Upgrading without a sweat
Review: No one likes to have to upgrade an operating system. I went from Win 95 to Win 98 to take advantage of a larger hard drive without having to cut it into smaller 2 GB drives. And to utilize my cable modem via USB, I needed to upgrade to ME.

There are a lot of horror stories out there about upgrades. These horror stories worried me--so much so that I started with a blank drive when I went from 95 to 98. But this time, I decided to do the upgrade on top of my system and it went without a hitch.

As with any upgrade, clean-up your hard drive (uninstalling unwanted or unnecessary programs and fies) and back up everything. Archive your Outlook address book and emails (choose the archive option in email options and save the .pst file). Worst case scenario is that you have to format your hard drive and start over again. But in this case, I was pleasantly surprised how easy and painless the upgrade went.

Summary: Works Great
Review: This is the greatest OS I ever saw. Microsoft did a great job with it. The System Restore is great. It saves me hours of work. It is much more efficent and easy to use then Linux or even Apple. Again Three Cheers to Microsoft! Windows ME makes everything so easy. I love it!

Summary: Better Operating System???
Review: First let me say this, don't even bother thinking about purchasing this software!! This has to be one of the most unstable OS out there! If you so much as even look at it wrong you have to restart it. Notice how they say "System Restore quickly restores your computer to a previous state", it's because you'll need it when you have to reboot it 3 times each day! It does have some great features bundled up into this packaged, but seriously, wait for the 2nd Edition to come out. In addition to they new features, you'll find that it uses more RAM than previous versions. This can be bad news if you don't have ample memory (what they have listed in the system requirements is a bare minimum. Maybe then they'll fix the bugs, but for now it's not worth the price they've put on it. Stick with 952ndEd or 98SE.

Summary: Too many commercials
Review: Bought a new Compaq Presario that came preloaded with Win ME. My biggest complaint is that they (Compaq and Microsoft) have cluttered the desktop with commercial inducements, some of which cannot be removed! It's like buying a new TV that plays Sony commercials every 5 minutes no matter what content you've chosen. I paid for an intellectual tool and I get someone else's marketing platform. When are companies going to learn that we're all not stupid consumers and that they have to show respect?

So I upgrade to Win 2000 and find that the Compaq modem doesn't work and Compaq informs me that it will never work under Win 2000. Since the Win 2000 installation reformatted the hard disk and Compaq didn't include Win ME disks or CD-ROMs, Compaq expects me to pay for new software! Over my dead body!

Frankly, "Pride comest before the Fall" - Compaq and Microsoft should be taking that piece of wisdom to heart. Maybe I should look into Linux.
