Rating: Summary: Microsoft Windows Me Review: I installed windows Me on my Pc.The maximum disk space is 130mb.The setup is exactly the same to Win98.The best thing is that if you erased a sys file by mistake it restores them from its backup.Excellent(With Win9x you need a complete reinstall). It came with Internet Explorer 5.5,Outlook Express 5.5,Windows media Player 7 and has new games. The Biggest shock is no restart in dos mode,All you get is a dos shell that can accesed through windows. So all applications that required you to shutdown to dos mode cant be run now. The best thing is that i have not faced any problems with Me till now.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Best Windows Yet! Review: Windows ME is awesome! I was watching a demonstration on ZDTV about it. It is DOSless Windows. For those of you who don't know what I mean, DOS is one of the main reasons Windows crashes and takes so long to load. Boot-up time is cut in half, and it is very stable. Also, there is an INCREDABLE system restore feature. Windows will automaticaly take snap shots of your computer, and if some how your computer got really messed up you can restore your computer to a previous snap shot. From there you can undo that restore, go back some more, or keep it how it is. This is really the way Windows was ment to be. Also, Microsoft announced that this is the last Home-user operating system. The next OS from Microsoft will be NT based. Personally I think that that Microsoft is going to keep on shooting those OUTSTANDING Home-user operating systems our way. I already Pre-ordered my copy. Shouldn't you? Thank You Microsoft!
Rating: Summary: A Much Larger Upgrade Review: If you have used Windows 98 before and have felt the changes it offered from Windows 95 were insufficient, then this upgrade would be considered major to you. Microsoft have added several brand-new programs to this new OS, and have touched up on the old, Windows 95 interface. It now looks like Windows 2000, but only with the less-restrictive kernel most home-users and gamers would prefer. The interface is very professional - much smoother than that of older Windows versions, and worth the upgrade for this improvement alone. Windows 95 and 98 users will be wanting to throw away the older, less stable version of Windows, and upgrading to the newer Windows technology. Current Windows 2000 users should not "upgrade", however, because this version of Windows is Windows 2000 (in a nutshell), only without the strength, security and reliability. This would have to be the next generation of Windows, after the Windows 32-bit generation.
Rating: Summary: Worth the money? Review: This is yet another version of Windows which barely improves on Windows 95. This is basically an update for all the new devices and hardware that are out there. At the core it still works the same as the last couple Windows. I wouldn't recommend buying this unless you have a brand new computer, otherwise, like in my case, it will just slow down your computer even more. There are some small bonuses to this version though. It does come with some ok games, and improved multimedia capabilities, but most of these you could already download from the microsoft webpage. I have to admit some of the more pestering points to Windows 98 have now been fixed, but I'm sure most users will hardly notice. Many of the changes are just cosmetic, or simplify a certain task. I have been using this version for about a month now, and sometimes I want to uninstall it, it can really slow things down at times, and it does tend to freeze my computer an aweful lot more than previous versions. All in all, this is good for brand spanking new computers, but for older ones, I would stick with older versions, your system will just run faster.
Rating: Summary: Don't try to buy it! Review: I have had ME since March 2001. It has turned out to be the worst piece of junk you could imagine. Bill Gates should be ashamed of himself for sticking it to the public by ever releasing ME in the first place. I spend more time with boot up problems, shut down problems and "just trying to get things done" problems. This system couldn't manage memory resources if it's life depended on it - which I guess it does as it keeps dieing on me. In a nutshell: don't buy it! Don't even take ME for free. You will live to regret it if you do.
Rating: Summary: Windows ME + computer user = headaches and frustration Review: As I am on the verge of getting a new computer with a different operating system I feel a great need to say goodbye to Widows ME by giving it this review. It is thankfully not available here anymore, but for anyone who might actually want it I hope this will be a good deterrent.
This is one of the most irritating operating systems you will ever run across, unless you're one of those fortunate few who were given one of the half dozen copies that actually worked. Almost right from the beginning I had problems and over the years that I've been inflicted with ME they've only escalated in number and severity.
There isn't a single program that hasn't crashed at least once, Microsoft Works being the most flagrant with its problems. I've gotten numerous error windows: various DLL files crashing programs right and left, hang ups and freezing in programs and crippling memory shortages that seemed to have no plausible cause considering the extensive RAM on my machine. I've often had to pull the plug to shut it down because ctrl-alt-del wouldn't work. Despite my best efforts to clear up space, to run maintenance programs and scandisk and defrag, /nothing/ worked except on the most temporary basis, if at all. Reinstalling the operating system only helped the first two times. After that it had no effect since the damage was done.
And one of the worst things: Internet Explorer CANNOT be uninstalled. This is the only version of Windows were this is the case, why they did this I don't know. So if Internet Explorer has a problem or Outlook Express it is impossible to fix by uninstalling and reinstalling IE. And for reasons I can't fathom I couldn't update my version of IE, so I had to give up using both it and Outlook Express, and any other programs that worked out of IE directly.
By playing it very safe and making sure I didn't run certain programs at the same time I've been able to use Windows ME with few /major/ errors in the past few months, but it's not worth the effort. I want an operating system that can do what I want it to do and what it should do.
It's quite sad really; if I had a stable OS this computer would have served me well. As it is, it's often been a headache and a not very agreeable challenge to get it to work. And even my brother, who is proficient in computers and installs CD burning systems for military bases around the country, could do nothing for me. He sighed and shrugged when I told him I had Windows ME. This operating system is truly irredeemable.
The only things that have worked well on this machine are the few games I've played: The Sims, Warcraft 3 and Diablo II. All have run without errors except for Diablo, which originally ran fine, but has been getting more and more errors of late. Windows ME seems to like to increase its errors with any given program as time passes. I'd say it was the spawn of the Devil, but the Devil isn't /that/ evil.
It will be a very happy day for me when I transfer my files and programs to my new computer and install Linux over this malignant operating system.
Bill Gates should be ashamed for releasing such a shoddy product. No consumer should have to go through such struggles.
Avoid Windows ME like the plague it is.
Rating: Summary: Windows ME is More Trouble Than It's Worth......... Review: I have been running ME for 4 years. It came bundled with a brand name system I purchased. I had so much trouble with it that I returned the system almost weekly and had it sent in for repair. I had the Hard drive replaced, the CD-Rom, and eventually the whole motherboard. Come to find out from my peers and online: ITS JUST "ME"!
I have to look at a full reinstallation every 6 months or so to get it running right. "Restore" does nothing to help the situation. My restore points are gone by the time I need them.
It has its good points. It runs ok when it's fresh installed and tweaked a bit. But problems lurk.
I would upgrade but my budget won't allow. So for now I'm stuck in BLUE SCREEN LAND. I recommend XP or at the very least 98SE, you'll be much happier!
Rating: Summary: Don't even think about it Review: I usually spend considerable time crafting my reviews on Amazon. However, in this case let me make it short and simple: Don't even think about it. The only possible redeeming value Me might have is as a gift to your worst enemy. In all other cases, avoid it like the plague (which it is). XP works. Me doesn't. Got it? Good. Now leave this page immediately and don't look back!
Rating: Summary: I'd rather have 3.1 than this crap on my PC Review: When I went to Best Buy, I told them I wanted all the latest stuff for my PC. I did not buy mine right off the shelf. Unfortunately they hooked me up with this piece of junk OS. Of course at first I did not see anything wrong with it really but throughout the times I have used it, I wish I would have told them to put Windows 98 SE on my PC instead. Windows ME is not worth the disc it's copied on, seriously do not bother with it. You will get error messages more than you would like to, and that includes the Blue Screen of Death. Anyone who would say to me, "Oh, you just didn't know how to work with it," I will slap you silly. I have had this PC and Windows ME for about 4 years, so don't you tell me I don't know how to work with it. I tried to work with it, and it gave me nothing but grief. Now after getting a copy of Windows 98 SE just recently and applying some serious elbow grease to my PC, I now have a much better OS. If you have Windows ME, get 98 SE as soon as possible because it is still the best OS out there. All you people who say that Windows ME is good, you just have no idea what kind of crapola you have on your pc.
This is the worst OS ever created, do not buy it.
Rating: Summary: That sound was my computer crashing Review: I've been a computer user since the pre-hard drive days and have experienced every version of Windows from 3.0 to Windows ME. Windows ME is the least stable of them all. It hangs frequently and there have been periods of time when I've dread having to reboot because it was likely to hang again. I'm tired of always seeing the Blue Screen of Death. We're getting a new computer with Windows XP. I plan on wiping the ME off of the old one and reinstalling the more stable Windows 98se. Shame on you, Microsoft for foisting this program on the public!
