Review: ME is much more reliable and efficient. New features like active "start" menu bar which hides less used shortcuts gives you better and tidy looking menus. Very useful for people like me. But it slows down the system as usual...

Summary: It's time to jump OFF the bandwagon.
Review: Having been a long time Windows user, I looked forward to each upgrade of the OS which Microsoft put before us, hoping for some improvement which would provide increased stability and improved memory management. And of course, to remove the need to reinstall every 3 months. Well, Windows 2000 was a total change in the OS, but not for the better for home users; the NT core proved to be quite a problem for running even some of the latest software, not to mention hardware driver issues. And now Windows Me, which is targeted at home users, is just a facelift of Windows 98, and not worth the money either.About eight months ago I decided to switch to the Macintosh for my home computing needs, after doing a bit of research on software availability, etc. Let me tell you, I have never been more satisfied with a computer. All the 'good' Microsoft products including Office are available for MacOS, as well as plenty of other productivity and entertainment software, including games. In short, I have saved a lot of frustration by leaving Windows behind. And believe me, I haven't looked back. - Michael

Review: MSFT is tanking and maybe this is another ditch attempt by the Gates camp to charge once more for something that is not nearly as valuable. I wouldnt chip out 10 bucks for the 'extra' features that this OS provides me with.

Review: I thought i wasted money in getting games. Now I think i have wated money in getting yet another useless MS product. All the features provided in the ME version are either available for download free of charge, or are utterly USELESS

Summary: As reliable as Windows 3.1
Review: ...and I realized why. Rember GPFs? (Global Protection Faults) from Windows 3.1 days? Well, they don't happen with newer versions of Windows (because applications are forced to run in their own protected memory space, and can't corrupt the other applications, because the OS (Operating System) prevents them from destroying each other.) But now Microsoft is increasingly integrating IE (Internet Explorer) into the OS. Likewise, it's integrating Office into the OS. So bugs in IE or Office often cause the whole OS to act up, and force a complete reboot. For example, when I click on a link in an email in Outlook, IE, Outlook, and the OS and whatever other applications I'm running freeze up until I kill IE. I've reinstalled IE and Office, but it doesn't help. This happened when I upgraded my Win 98/2000 IE5.0 dual boot system. I tried to revert back to IE 5.0, which had been working OK, but I can't, without (according to the warning message that pops up) breaking every MS application I've installed- Word, Outlook, Excel, FrontPage, Access, etc. I was better off before I upgraded.

Summary: Very Poor Use of Media Hype
Review: Well yet again, people who rarely use their computer for anything more that a net-appliance have jumped on the microsoft bandwagon once again to support another lame implementation of the Win9x kernel. Lets face it folks, all it really is is Windows 98 TE (Third Edition) with some Win2000 ripped chunks stirred into the batter. Why would you buy a product that provides you with everything that is FREE off of windows update? All the supposed benefits of ME (IE 5.5, DirectX 7.1, etc) are all FREE downloads... so who cares if Win98 didn't have auto-backup of system files, and ME does? Why don't you use a REAL operating system like Windows 2000? Windows 2000 has a full repair process just like NT4: No worries there! Windows 2000 plays all the games I have ever tried on it: even old DOS-mode games like Masters of Magic, Doom, and Masters of Orion. Windows 2000 is based on the NT kernel, thus is more stable than Win9x/ME which is still based on the DOS kernel. Windows 2000 has a TRUE 32 bit TCP/IP stack and has a much easier overall feel and interface than 9x/ME. Device Management is easier, Add/Removing Programs is easier, networking is a treat, and security is top-notch..... So my suggestion is: TAKE THE MONEY YOU'D SPEND ON WinME AND PUT IT TOWARDS A COPY OF 2000 PROFESSIONAL... Thanks for listening to my rant....

Summary: Not bad, not worth $170 though.
Review: I'm quite pleased with the load times and functionality of Windows ME. I have commend Microsoft for taking the boot time of this operating system and chopping it in half, however, that's little consolation when you end up rebooting twice as much! It's still a buggy program; some pieces of software really do a number on the memory management software. My advice: If your not familiar with the MSCONFIG command, and want to spend the time debugging your start-up profiles, then wait until the first service pack is released before buying this. All in all an okay improvement to the functionality and performance of Windows 98 SE, but by no means is it perfect. p.s. Additional warnings go out to MS OFFICE 2000, @PCDATA, ICQ 2000a, paid-to-surf users and Voodoo Banshee owners... If you fall into any of these categories, in my opinion, WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT SERVICE PACK RELEASE, unless of course, you want to debug it yourself. :)

Review: I have been using computers for the past four years my OS was Win95. Initially i didn't know much about computers, I would end up deleting a lot of system files. I had to call a pro and reinstall windows almost every 5 to 6 months. The backup facility of system files on WinME is great, it would have helped me then if it was on Win9x. From what i read in the reviews about Windows Millennium, It promises to do away with service packs giving users a very stable and secure OS. And microsoft has succeded according to me in delivering this, That i switched to Win ME. I am a computer lover not a computer nerd, I prefered windows because it is the right OS for me. I need a cool dektop, easy to use and an OS which has many supporting softwares and cool computer games. WinME is the best of the Windows, It is a really cool OS.

Summary: Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
Review: Win Millennium is just an ok upgrade to win98.Dont expect any drastic changes over Win 98 just like Win95 upgrade over Win3X or even Win98 upgrade over Win95.Why does microsoft want to remove the dos mode.It operates smoothly than win98.It does boast of Intenet Explorer 5.5,Windows Media Player 7 and others but you can install them on windows 98 too.The best thing about ME is the backup which retores the sys files deleted by mistake.I would not recommend this product to persons who have Win 98SE installed, Just a few changes over Win98 wouldnt make you wanna buy this.
