Summary: No Blue Screen
Review: I dont know what these people are talking about when they give this a bad rating. The main thing I LOVE about this is that is DOES NOT CRASH!! I have had the Home edition for over 3 months now and I have not had one blue screen. Everything I had was commpatible with XP. I would only get this if you have a really new computer that can handle this software.

Summary: Buyer Beware...really Beware!!
Review: It's a shame we are all going to have to make this upgrade. I have been a consistent Windows and DOS user since day one in the early 80s. And I must say I am VERY disappointed with Windows XP. For all it's touted to be, it is first and foremost an incredible pain to install. And once it's installed, it doesn't work very well. It's advertised as nearly crash free. Bunk. I have had just as many hard crashes with XP as with 98. Nearly every program I had on my computer with Windows 98 required a patch to download from a web site to make it work with XP. My older model HP Laserjet printer does not work with XP, though MS and HP say it will. I have to reboot everytime I want to print a document. My DVD player no longer works. I am considering buying a [...]"decoder" which is "sure to fix the problem." CD creator finally works, but with two reinstalls and the installation of two patches. My customised HP keyboard no longer works with the bells and whistles buttons it came with. When I tried to install the keyboard patch, I got a crash so hard I barely survived. When I installed WIndows XP it dumped all the communications protocols for my ADSL ISP provider. My ISP has no fix, so I have to manually connect each time I want to surf the web. The list goes on and on. This was an inconceived upgrade. If Microsoft had spent as much money on development as on advertising perhaps it would have been a better product. Buyer Beware!!

Summary: Win XP install
Review: Installed WIN XP upgrade version from WIN ME in about 80 minutes, almost effortless. Only a few prompts to hit enter to continue. All of my earlier programs, files, settings and drivers remained intact. No problems so far and a great improvement over WIN 95/98/ME. Highly recommend if you have a later PC with the recommended RAM, HD capacity and CPU speed.

Summary: Incompatible
Review: Windows XP has a great new user interface, and improved multimedia capabilites, but it is just not worth the money that it would take to get everything to work with it. First, it won't recgonize your utility and antivirius software, making you buy a new one, then you have to buy an ethernet card for your cable modem, then you have to reinstall most of your programs to compete with the compatibility issues. Overall Windows XP is a good product, but it is either too advanced for the average user, or the average user is too far (5-6) months behind the times to find it useful.

Summary: Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade by Microsoft
Review: I did not believe the previous reviews and tried the XP Upgrade myself. The Hardware and Software issues between XP and Compaq cannot be resolved without purchasing new hardware. If you really want to have XP, save yourself a lot of wasted time and money and buy an entire new system with XP already installed. Now I am faced with having to go back and re-install my existing hardware, software and drivers that I un-installed for XP. My best advice (IF you have a HIGH speed inter-net connection) is prior to buying XP go into Micrsoft's site and download "Upgrade Advisor". If Advisor shows Software and Hardware conflicts don't try to upgrade unless you have a lot of time on your hands to obtain new drivers and possibly have to replace hardware.

Summary: Best Windows Yet - Still Not Perfect
Review: XP is clearly the best version of Windows yet. I now leave my PC on continously, just using the standby mode rather than shutting the PC down. You can monitor free memory and it does not disappear over time like in all the 9x versions. I noticed improved performance in some of my applications compared to ME. No shut-down problems like there were in 98. Some applications that would not run for me in ME now run fine in XP. Having said that, it still does not seem to be "rock" stable. I had a problem that required me to reinstall. Still not sure what the problem was. Spent 1/2 on hold to get Microsoft support (no charge for support, but not an 800 number either). Was able to recover my data, but significant waste of time. Also, going from Windows ME with Roxio (nee Adaptec) CD Creator s/w to XP you lose some functionality. XP now incorporates CD burning into the operating system so you don't need the Roxio software. But you don't get the ability to treat the CD-RW like a regular floppy drive like you did with the DirectCD feature of the Roxio software. I thought about spending the money for the Roxio upgrade but the reviews of the XP version of the product were not good. You should also keep in mind other upgrade costs. For me, I had enough memory so that was not an issue. But I did have to upgrade my Norton Antivirus software (~$...). And if you want the full CD-RW features with Adaptec/Roxio count on another $(...). Finally, I have to say that I don't think too much of Microsoft as a company. The price for this product is too high, considering it is what Windows 98 should have been. Given that we have already paid for 98, shouldn't the upgrade to make it what it should have been in the first place had a price tag more in the 30 to 40 dollar range? But if you want a version of windows that runs reasonably well, your only choice is to pay MS the $(...) for this upgrade.

Summary: Do not buy unless
Review: Do not buy unless you have a PC with at least 600 MHz it slows down the computer to a great extend. Remember that none of the offers tells you that you can not use it on your PC and Laptop. You have to uninstall it before you can use it on the second Computer and than can not use the other computer untill you uninstalled it from the one you use. At the price a typical Microsoft system to rip you off. The program has a life off it's own and decides in the middle of your using the computer that you should be doing something it thinks is usefull and keeps on interupting your thoughts. I have uninstalled it and find that WS 2000 is a much more usefull version. One day when MS has decided that after you pay for as program you can make your own decisions when and how to operate your computer it may be usefull to have the new features available. Almost none of the older hardware is compatable even with upgrades and those that can be upgraded dont work well with xp

Summary: Windows XP not good for me.
Review: I bought Windows XP thinking good-for-me. Then, I had to buy a new monitor and printer due to "incompatibility." The woes didn't whoa there: at my games all I could do was stare, and my CD's, well, they now have fleas of the genus incompatibility. If only I were a byte-head, then I'd know what's good for me; but alas, I'm crass-all I can do is scratch my.... Windows XP not good for me.

Summary: Miss Regina's 2 cents
Review: I like windows xp because it's very colorful and it's really smooth...no problems so far, but I don't like the fact that it doesn't have any desktop themes, nor any to download. The only thing xp does is allow you to change your wallpaper. I loved the fact that windows 98 had so many themes to choose from.

Review: I regard Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition as one of the best software ever presented. In comparison to other softwares, the XP by far exceeds any limit, thereby making it the software of the century. Overall, I think every PC user should try and grab a copy of this versatile software. Nuff said.
