Review: I have used redhat 8.0 and Mandrake 8.0 - 9.1, and after seeing some good reviews about SUSE, I jumped on this distro. First of all, let me tell my hardware configurations. I have Pentium 4, intel 845 chipset, geforce 4Ti 4200, maxtor 30 GB HDD, Audigy 2, EPSON 880 printer, EPSON 1660 scanner, CD-R drive, DVD drive, and a gamepad. The installation went smoothly, and all the devices were recognized without any problem. I used DVD as an installation medium, and the whole thing took 1 and half hours. I even connected USB 64MB thumbdrive once it's booted, and that worked too. Installing NVIDIA 3d driver using YsST2 download was also straightforward (unlike messing with XFree stuff). So, I think YaST2 is very good installation program compared to other distros. One more thing I liked about this distro is that I could see my another windows computer by completeing Samba configuration program by SUSE. This is not something which I could do with other distributions. Booting time on SUSE is shorter than that of Mandrake. Also it's a little faster than Redhat too. On top of that, default desktop looks cool.
However, compared to windows, multilingual support is not perfect yet. In most of applications, I could type Japasese easily, but somehow I could not type Japanese in "Opera" and "OpenOffice."
Overall, this is the best distro I have used so far, and I think it's getting close to windows level. Now it's time to learn more network stuff for me.

Summary: Suse finally gets it right...and gets sold to Novell!
Review: Suse finally gets it right. My install went perfectly with only minor adjustments needed (what distro doesn't need a tweak here and there?)The graphics look as good as ever and this version has some of the slickest packages around--some even the other distros don't have. And with the recent buy-out of Suse by Novell, it should only get better with age. If you are looking for an alternative to the OS from Redmond, Suse has finally put together a formidable product that allows you to do all of the things you do in Windows--and more. All at an affordable price. No license fees...no hassles...ease of use...what are you waiting for?

Summary: Not for the average user
Review: This software is not for the average user, it is very hard to install and the user interface is difficult to work with. Plus, there are numerous software crashes. I would not recommend this.

Summary: Dont waste your money
Review: Well my advise is to save some frustration and get Red Hat instead. I bought this one and repeadedly tried to install the mysql package that was included. Well after trying many times and not having it work, I tried Red Hat 9 and suprisingly the same things that I tried and didnt work with SUSE suddenly worked just fine on Red Hat. I do admit im new to Linux but I do know when something works and not and Red Hat actually works as advertised.

Summary: Installation process
Review: If you understand the underpinnings of a operating system or if you are a systems administrator then this is for you. The routine work that is required for upkeep on linux is above the basic pc users ability. The software that is included is not of any value to a home user. For all around computing and ease of use, try Windows XP Professional.

Summary: Suse Linux
Review: I have been using Linux in general and Suse in particular for several years now. Ive used Suse 7.1, 7.2, 8.1, 8.1 and 8.2. Using computers is part of my profession and also my hobby. I have two workstations -- one is my media center and the other is for development and I also own two laptops. Suse has always been a good solid implementation of Linux and has improved every with every release. It comes with good graphics software, email, browser, office software that will do everything that MicroSoft Office does and is mostly compatible with Microsoft, desktop (KDE and Gnome) and several financial packages. It had everything needed to record my vinyl to CD. And if you're interested, you can take it apart to see how it works. Not for everyone. If you consider yourself an advanced user and want to learn how a computer works, this is for you. By the way -- I've never had a problem with a worm or a virus. All of my machines are set up dual-boot (Windows 98, 95, ME and XP). This was easy to do and allowed me to go back and forth between where I wanted to go and what I knew. Right now two machines are on and both are in Linux.

Summary: Excellent distribution of Linux
Review: SuSE is one of the easiest versions of Linux to install. It makes an excellent desktop operating system with programs such as OpenOffice, Grip, Gimp, Mozilla, and Evolution. SuSE also comes with YaST, which makes setting up your system a simple task. If you are using the internet, SuSE makes it a positive experience by providing you with applications such as the Mozilla web browser, Evolution email client, GAIM and Everybuddy for instant messenging, and a lot more. SuSE also provides you with a firewall to help keep unwanted intruders off your system. If you like passing the time playing games, SuSE has plenty in store for you. There are strategy games, solitare games, miniature golf, arcade style games, etc. If you'd like to take things a bit further, you can easily set up a web server to serve your own web pages, share your files and printer with other Linux or Windows users, or learn to develop your own software. SuSE provides you with a complete solution to your computing needs at a very reasonable price. Compare that to Windows where $100.00 buys you the operating system and nothing else. For less than this, SuSE provides you with a Microsoft Office compatible office suite, powerful SQL database servers, a variety of software development tools, hundreds of games, and a whole lot more.

Summary: Not very pleased
Review: Linux has a long way to go before it can even reach the functionality and ease of use of Windows. If you are someone who likes to tinker, or likes searching online databases to answers to broken software then this is for you. If you want the best desktop Operating system, then I recommend Windows XP Professional. It is rock solid, tons of applications and best of all it just works without rebuilding it like Linux.

Summary: When it comes to computing
Review: If you enjoy working on a car before driving it and constantly having to search user databases on the internet on how to solve a bug in Linux then this is for you. If you want the best overall operating system then use Windows XP Professional. It has the best applications, end user functionality and it is rock solid. I worked in Information Technology for several years and Windows is the best operating system.

Summary: Best Linux OS
Review: I have used versions 7.3 and 8.1 of this OS. I was going to upgrade to 8.2, but heard about 9.0 and decided to wait. If you would like to have a rock solid OS that gives you the freedom to customize it any way you want then Suse is for you. No need to worry about the "blue screen of death" like in WinDOZE. If an app. causes problems and freeze-ups, just "kill" it and keep working. I love Suse Linux because it contains so many apps, and make it easy to to upgrade them. There are thousands of apps on the CD's and thousands more on the web. Get this distro. and you'll be happy for years!!
