Summary: I love it!
Review: I'm an experienced Windows and Mac user with just a little Linux experience thrown in. I've been thinking about purchasing Linux for several months, and after reading the review of SuSE 8.0 I decided to give it a try. As most other reviews have mentioned, the installation process is very easy and straightforward. I installed Linux on an extra drive, but even if you don't have that, it's easy to install. I had Linux with KDE 3.0 up and running in about 20 minutes.The selection of included applications is the really amazing part about this distribution. My wife is ready to divorce me because I'm spending so much time on the computer, and I've barely scratched the surface of all the aps. I was a little concerned about installing new aps, but even that has been greatly simplified. I can HIGHLY recommend SuSE 8.0 to anyone, even Windows users :) So why didn't I give it 5 stars? If you have a plug and play, PCI modem, it will probably not work. That's not a problem with only SuSE Linux, it's a problem for all Linux distributions. Most PnP PCI modems are called "WinModems" because they lack necessary hardware to reduce the cost. Windows takes care of the missing parts, but for Linux it's an issue. My modem would not work (dialup) so I had to borrow a friend's external modem. It's not a problem for broadband connections (I know I know, get into the 21st century). If it wasn't for the modem issue, I would EASILLY have given SuSE 8.0 5 stars. I have both Windows and Linux loaded on my desktop, and I've been using Linux almost exclusively since loading it. Give it a try!

Summary: Linux Newbies - SuSE ist die Besten fur
Review: I've been putting off learning the *Nix OS for quite some time. I decided to try out SuSE because of advice from various sources on the internet. SuSE is a breeze to install and even works with my winmodem (HSF Conexant). It can be overwhelming to just dive into something as complex as a new OS, but SuSE makes it easy. With all of the tutes that are automatically installed in the standard installation and with their online help all you need is time to read them. Any question you can think of, they have already addressed, or can point you to someone who has. If you want to learn linux and want to get your system fully functional without learning Linux first, get this distro. You have so much control you won't want to use another even after you're an advanced user

Summary: Great even for starters
Review: I've read a few reviews and I played with RH and Mandrake ISO's but decided to try SuSe and glad I did it was fast painless and easy even for a beginner like myself. One review seemed like he was a M$ rep the way he bashed it and another reviewer sung it praises as if it was the holy grail. If you have a desire to play in the linux arena this is the distro, Hands down the best and I would say just as good if not better than XP

Summary: Runs better on Pentium class machines.
Review: In my previous review I commented that Suse 8.0 was a bit sluggish on a Celeron 850 machine in comparison to Win 2000 pro. I subsequently tried it on a PIII 933 with much more comparable performance: so the hardware quality is definitely a significant factor. To generate .PDFs you would need to load the K-Office suite. K-Word is much better than the StarOffice option and can print files directly to .PDF or .PS. The K-Word is also very similar to Adobe Framemaker in its operation, which is great for complicated DTP work. Again - a lot of stuff for not much money.

Summary: SuSE 8.0 is good.
Review: Installation of 8.0 version of SuSE OS was just simple as any another application install (using a good installer) and that also on Laptop with GeForce2 card. Also it emulated the DVD/CDR as SCSI with no extra efforts. KDE 3.0 is kool. Lots of stuff in there and easy configuration. I never liked KDE 1.0 and used 2.0+ with some hesitance. YAST2 was great. Though I have to test lot of other stuff but start was so clean and great. Installing the GeForce2 driver (from NVidia) didn't work that easily for me in SuSE 7.1. Installing XP (upgrading from ME) on the same Laptop was a pain. It took me more than 4 hours with system freeze couple of times. Well done SuSE. My suggestion to Suse is to provide cheaper updates to exisitng customers at regular retail shops (Right now the update package can be ordered only from SuSE as I know of). This may prompt the existing customers to buy new minor releases rather than downloading or waiting for a new major release. This may bring more money to Suse and also its customers will be more happy.

Summary: Easiest OS Installation you'll find
Review: Installing any new OS in the past has been scary, and most average users probably think installing linux is even scarier. Not any more. SuSE 8.0 is amazing. It automatically detected all my hardware and I was even on the internet on the very first boot-up. It partitioned my hard-drive without a hitch and I can dual-boot into Windoze if I ever really need to. So far, I've been running on SuSE for 9 days straight without a reboot, crash, blue-screen-of-death, or any serious problems. It's amazing, considering my old Winduhs machine crashed about nine times per day! This is the linux product that even your mom can figure out how to use and love. It's finally here!

Summary: Better with every version
Review: Linux has officially surpassed the closed-source market.
Right with the front-runners in open source is SuSE. This new version of their massive Linux distribution is a complete starter set for any practical application a sensible person can imagine. If the user is daunted by the size and complexity of the toolsets presented here, let him consider the range of functions they can perform. Practically any kind of network communication is possible, sound, image and video manipulation are readily available to explorers and producers alike, office software, programming tools, and a wealth of games of every type (all free, mind you) are all here. If that's not enough, SuSE offers internet downloads and updates of their distributions, which support a wide variety of hardware. Beware that this is not a "user-proof" system- that is, a user can accidentally wreck the system in some cases, because practically every aspect of the system can be changed. For anyone looking for a solid, customizable platform for conventional and non-conventional applications alike, SuSE Linux is a serious candidate to consider.

Summary: Pleased Again
Review: Once again SuSE delivers yet another product that I have looked forward to receiving and with little to no dissapointment. Personally I don't care for the YaST (which is YaST2) for the command line version, but overall very satisfied with this product. The thing I like best about SuSE is that it has the ability to hold your hand if you are on new ground and stays out of your way if you know what you are doing.
SuSE continues to be one of my favorite distro's that sticks to what sold me on it the first time I gave SuSE a go.
If you are teetering on the edge of whether or not to buy this you really should try it. SuSE provides enough add-on value that I doubt you will be unhappy with your purchase. Run it lean and mean or slow and bloated, you do have a choice, you do have control.

Summary: Another step forward.
Review: Recieved mine through the mail about a week ago and have been using it on my workstation (server is next to upgrade, was running SuSE 7.3 and the only thing to have knocked that puppy down was a powercut after 90 days). The old command line yast has been removed and the new yast2 has been improvedeven more beyond the 7.3 version. KDE 3 is of course a very nice desktop environment and Gnome 1.4.1 is also included (amongst a choice of many more window managers should you be so inclined to want them, such as blackbox). Overall its great, sure has a few bugs, but no showstoppers. Installation is a breeze, compared to WinXP it is actually easier. The only thing between Linux on the desktop is not so much the range off applications, but licensing from large companies that prevent software like SuSE to be pre-installed.
