Summary: Would prefer Zone Alarm
Review: I just got an Intel Wireless Home Network up and running and it came with Blackice embedded in it. Hate that to start with. Couldn't run my Zone Alarmfirewall with it. Black Ice is incompatible with ZA's true verctor monitor. Also, don't like the fact that BlackIce doesn't monitor outgoing programs like ZA does. Would've rated it higher if I hadn't been forced to use it.

Summary: Cheap, Easy to Use, Lasts a Long Time
Review: With DSL, a static IP and extended up-times, I felt it necessary to have some 'protection' on my machine. After reading all the reviews on Amazon, and the descriptive literature on Black Ice and its competitors, I was inclined to go with Black Ice. When I learned it was also the 'defender of choice' for my employer, I was pretty convinced. Installation was a snap; updating via their website is quick and easy; I have had no anomolous failures (Win98-based) of any sort since. The product's 'Attack' and 'Traffic' histories are interesting reading - I seem to be probed by web crawlers pretty frequently. In short: Black Ice does the job; highly recommended.

Summary: Good Product, Offers Solid Protection
Review: I have been using this product for over a year now and its done exactly what it advertises. They make numerous updates in order to keep the technology current (much like anti-virus...you have to stay current in order to keep blocking new methods).I run it on Windows2000 Workstation, NT Server, Windows 98 and Windows Me and have had no incompatibility problems whatsoever. Overall I would have to recommend this product.

Summary: Black Ice Defender is mediocre at best.
Review: in the past I have used many different firewalls. The famous "Atguard", Zonealarm, and now Black ice. I spent [$] on it, it said that it stops hackers cold. I frequently visit a web site called "shields up", it tries to probe your ports and test your security. using Black Ice, it was sucsessful in probing port 139, and NETBios. (thats not good), and I found that I was not in full stealth mode. Using the free Zonealarm firewall, all of your ports are in full stealth mode, however recent rumors suggesting that zonealarm may actually be spyware convinced me to get rid of it. In addition to Black Ice, I downloaded a free firewall called "Tiny Personal Firewall", it is very good, and makes my ports invisible, just as zonealarm. Another problem I had after intstalling Black Ice, is that my PC would just turn off, and I would get kicked off the internet often, also, since I have had it, it hasnt picked up a single hacker, and I have it set on "paranoid" mode, however the Tiny Persoanl firewall, has picked up, and blocked a number of attemps made by hackers to get into my system. If I could do it again, I would have saved my [$]. Dont but Black Ice. Download "Tiny Persoanl Firewall"....its good, and it's free! :)

Summary: Black Ice defender Defence Is Robust
Review: I work in a Govt Sector and we find the software Black Ice Defender Efficient Compared to Alarm Zone. We detected Approx about 100 scan were made on our systems thru The ADSL Line ( Digital Line) Users were trying got access our Confidential Data but couldn't get in. We were impressed that the software was actually working, Our Organisation Too writes in-house firewall programs for out system, but this One was really great. This is one software that is good to have around.

Summary: Black Ice Defender Unsatisfactory
Review: I tried Black Ice Defender on my Gateway G-400 and it caused the computer to crash regularly. After contacting Network Ice by e-mail and making their suggested changes, my computer crashed less often (but still too often for my liking). I found the information about attempts to access my computer, provided by the program, to be incomprehensible and, therefore, useless. I don't recommend this program.

Summary: Attention Zone Alarm Users!
Review: Attention Zone Alarm Users: Zone Labs just doesn't cut it. Their firewall is "software-based" ... all it does it tracks your software that uses the internet -- hardly safe. Black ice, however, lives in your PORTS so it knows which traffic is good and bad regardless of what software is requesting the traffic. No annoying messages like Zone Alarm -- just peace of mind.

Summary: Easy to install and non-intrusive
Review: I purchased this product after hearing some word-of-mouth testimonies on the good side. I'm happy to say I've not been disappointed. The product installed without a glitch. At first I was worried I haven't been attacked by an intruder except my own DSL modem (aka, UDP port probe). The visual alert is a flashing system tray icon. When an attack occurs (and they will), the BlackICE tray icon flashes red (critical), orange (serious) or yellow (suspicious) until the application is opened. If another attack occurs before the summary application is viewed, then the tray icon flashes the color of the most severe attack. Within the summary application, you can view the intruder's DNS and IP address. Sometimes, even the Node, Group, NetBIOS and MAC, if applicable. Using the advICE hyperlink provided in the program, you can read the company's general advice (Support Knowledgbase) concerning the attack. Other features include, Block Intruder (For an hour, For a Day, For a Month, Forever) or Trust Intruder; and a History graph that can be adjusted for Minute, Hour or Day intervals, along with a separate graph for Network Traffic (packet/second).

Summary: Excellent Product
Review: This product works as advertised and provides excellent protection. I have had the internet hack sites try to break into my home machine and they fail every time. BlackICE is also configurable to meet almost any requirement. I do not understand the negative reviews as we have numerous machines running the product. I would much rather BlackICE stop a possible attack than let it continue.

Review: I had zonelab's ZoneAlarm on my computer and for some reason did not feel comfortable about it, say, hey, I can't trust a free product. So I did a research and bought this black ice sham. That was one of the dumbest things I did this year. First, my Win 98 SE started crashing every 2nd, maximum 3rd time I connect to the Net via dial-up. Instantly -- the "verifying user name...." window minimizes and the blue screen of death comes up... Second, it does not offer one tenth of ZoneAlarm's functionality. The package box marketing BS presents it as a feature, "Ready right from the box" -- ready indeed. To do nothing useful. And if you use dial up and don't sit there in chat groups whole day, you don't need a firewall. No hacker will do anything bad to your system in 2 minutes while you sending/receiving your e-mail.
