Rating: Summary: That's it?!? Review: This game started out pretty cool. Sure it crashed a few times, sure it was pretty dark and hard to see, and sure some of the puzzles were pretty obscure, (though not quite so obscure with a walkthrough...), but for twenty bucks, I was right into it. I felt emmersed in the environment and was thoroughly enjoying it. And what a relief to play a game rated 'E' for a change. They are hard to find these days.In fact i was a little disappointed that I was already halfway through it, but since I still had two 'slots' left on my Key, I knew I had two more cool worlds to explore. Except you can't go to the next world. Oh, and there IS no next world after that. And CONGRATULATIONS YOU WIN. GAME OVER. I guess after five years they figured they better give up and release this half finished game before the graphics etc. became 10 years out of date instead of just 5.
Rating: Summary: Oh boy, this one is stinky! Review: I love puzzles. I loved Myst and Riven. I didn't expect Crystal Key to be as good. I did expect it to be relatively without bugs. The game play and bugs are so horrendous that the game is not playable, much less enjoyable. All I wanted was a nice adventure with some good puzzles - what I got was a migraine.
Rating: Summary: Don't buy this game. Just play Myst again. . . Review: First of all, shame on Dreamcatcher for putting out a game withmajor bugs ... . Secondly, the plot is dull and too predictable. The only good thing I can say about this game is that the graphics are nice; but even that was just an annoying reminder of what a great game this could have been. The authors shouldn't have bragged that this game was five years in the making. That just made it all the more disappointing. Crystal Key is not worth the money, time or frustration. It's items like this that makes me wish Amazon had a rating level of "no stars".
Rating: Summary: Get it straight. Review: For all you people who have played Myst and Riven you cannot compair this or any other game to them, because they are in a league of their own. Never-the-less this game would be a great introduction game to more complex games like Riven. I suggest that if this game did'nt meet your expectations, but you liked the graphics and the puzzles, try Myst. Then go on to Riven and you will not be disapointed at all, and if you are then games like this are not for you. There are some things about this game that could be better, like when you are walking the lighting is fine, but when you stop it gets dark. That is all I have found so far that I don't like about this game.
Rating: Summary: Crash City Review: Despite reconfiguring my computer more times than I can count I could never get this game to play for more than a minute without crashing and giving my entire PC some sort of seizure. Contact with Dreamcatcher elicited a polite but never-ending stream of things that must be wrong, settings that had to be changed, shutting down EVERY running program (including Intellimouse). Good GOD, Why would you put out a game that requires a user to COMPLETELY RESET their computer just to be able to play it! Yes, it's cheap--but that doesn't mean you should buy it. Twenty bucks for a game that doesn't work is still twenty bucks gone. Capsule Review: Beware!
Rating: Summary: waste of time Review: I was able to get this game at a discount, and still considered it to be a waste of time and money. The graphics are awful - the things you need to see in order to understand the game aren't visible. When you save a game and restore it later, you may find that an entire world experience has been lost. I am not a greatly experienced game player, but if this was the only game I had ever tried, I wouldn't try another.
Rating: Summary: does indeed fall short Review: Crystal key has terrific graphics, yes. The storyline has a promising beginning. There are occasional snippets of good music. However, the game is horribly slow on my computer. It often took 30 seconds or more to move to the next scene, which made it cumbersome to use. The storyline falls apart after the opening and, while you go about seeking things and solving puzzles and such, the storyline virtually disappears. The creators have created a nice universe, but leave you with no information about it. The ending, as well, is horribly anticlimatic. You finish the game wondering what happened and why.
Rating: Summary: 5 years in the making for this? Review: I was really excited about this game. I loved both Myst and Riven and was hoping that this would be as good or at least playable! I read all of the reviews and thought that the bugs and the lighting and the thing crashing every 2 seconds were not going to be that bad. Don't waste your money. This could be an enjoyable game, its not the most challenging but still enjoyable the only thing is you have to worry the whole time that something is going to go wrong, or tools that you know you need to do something just don't work no matter how many times you click on them. You need a cheat book just to tell you where certain things are because you can't see them! I am going to try to finish this game but I am very frustrated. Why would someone put out a game with this may problems?
Rating: Summary: The Crystal Key left ALOT to be desired..... Review: When I first saw this game on the shelf of my CompUSA store, I was thrilled! I couldn't wait to get home and play it. Once I began the game, reality struck.I was stunned by the lack of solid, vivid screenshots.I was frustrated and very disappointed mostly by the hard to see, fuzzy and nondefinable objects(either while "walking" or standing still) within the game as well as the graphics for the background and foreground shots. The atmospheres were too dark and in contrast to the colors and supposed textures throughout the game.Although the "movies" were nicely done and the graphics within them were expertly executed, the graphics within the interactive sequences of the game could have been awesome if more attention to detail had been given to light and dark as well as clear cut definition of lines and borders within worlds and objects. The so called "puzzles" were not what I had expected nor were they the type of puzzles that make this type of game more challenging and interesting. Most of the items/actions necessary to create the proper reactions were either too obvious or illogical( when you could actually see them!)which had a profound impact on the gameplay as a whole. In fact, the game would have been frustratingly tedious to finish were it not for a hint book that I purchased shortly after installing this sorry excuse for an adventure game. This was a TOTAL letdown and NOT what I expected from Dreamcatcher Int. and CO.
Rating: Summary: Good First Attempt Review: It's been a while since I have picked up a Myst clone that has kept me interested. (Riven was the last, and it was also by Cyan.) While the game is sometimes slow and unintuitive, Dreamcatcher Interactive shows promise in this genre of games. Many of the bugs mentioned by afore reviewers have been ironed out, and some limited keyboard commands have been added for saving and quitting. The puzzels range from simple to confounding, and the worlds are well rendered. The only element that is missing is a sense of culture and identity to these worlds, but someone may not necessarily miss that in a game. It's only twenty bucks SRP, and worth the ride if you are a persistant and patient gamer. Diehard fans of 3D shooters may loose their patience, but people who love to delve into unexplored worlds should find The Crystal Key a satisfying experience.
