Summary: Ohh Boy..here we go again!
Review: The expansion of D2 rocks. 2 new characters which are really fresh and have skills that are very creative. Playing all over again is still a lot of fun. The cinematic entering the V Act is very cool. Baal is a gas. Just remember to hit cancel when prompted for the cinematic disk (the expansion doesn't have one) and you will get the new one.

The new monsters are quite fun too. I have only completed the first 2 quests so I can only provide limited comments, but the design is very good. Lots of Uuuuu's and Ahssss's. Watch out for new weapons these new demons have. Some can catch you unaware.

The new 800X600 resolution is less than expected, as you obviously see your character (and everything else) much smaller. Seems the graphic in the regular resolution to be better than before.

Last but not least, the new stash size and new items (specially those specific to a particular character) are a real surprise. Its back to the books as these are far more sophisticated than before. I am totally adicted to the item search, find and trade/collect, and I'm afraid this will get worse (gee I need to get some sleep!)

Bear in mind that if you loaded the 1.08 patch and then later installed LOD, your characters created in 1.08 will not show as the game comes in 1.07 version. If you connect to Battle net you will be automatically updated. The old characters are all compatible with the 1.08, but its a one way conversion to play with them in LOD. (Good idea is to save a copy of the save folder from the game before you set out.

Summary: Diablo 2 Expansion Advantages
Review: If you've just bought Diablo 2, then I advise your next buy to be the expansion. After playing Diablo 2 for some time and beating the last levels, you will WANT to see the conclusion to the story. Those of us who have long since beat it, get the expansion and start playing Diablo 2 again. The expansion adds new types of characters claases to be, over 1000 new weppons and items, and some very unique stuff, aside from completeing the story. For any kind of RPG fan, or just a Diablo 2 fan, the expansion is worth it buy it as soon as possible.

Summary: Key Features I Noticed The Most
Review: Lord of Destruction (LOD) offers various new features, and after playing through it this weekend (June 30, July 1, 2001), here are the 6 that stood out to me the most.

1) Act V: Of course, the continuation of the story! The graphic artwork is very nice, with snow fall effects. The new creatures are very challenging. Act V is also fairly big. Closer to Act III. The quests are also more interesting than the original quests. For example, rescuing barbarian warriors held captive by Baal's forces.

2) Two New character classes: Assassin & Druid. The assassin uses martial arts, traps, and "shadow skills." Druid uses elemental magic, shapeshifting into bears/wolves, and summoning animals (mainly wolves & bears). I have only played the assassin thus far, and she is very cool, but the druid looks like he would be very interesting as well.

3) 800 x 600 resolution: The increased resolution allows more to show on the screen and makes the graphics appear less pixelized on large monitors. I have a fast computer, so I saw no performance difference. If you are running near minimum requirements, this is not an option for you.

4) Double the Storage: Your cache space has doubled. Plus, when above level 30, the amount of gold you can save goes way up.

5) Weapon swapping: You can equip two sets of weaponory. For example, my barbarian carries a two-handed sword in each hand, plus a two-handed sword and shield as a second option. With the hot-key W I switch between the two configurations on the fly. I used this ALOT, especially towards the finale.

6) Hirelings MUCH more useful: The hirelings can now be resurrected, given armor, helm, and weapons (the weapon must be the same type they first come with). Moreover, you get to see their stats, exp points & level, and you can take them with you across acts. You can only have one, but now that you can keep them with you and they are a little tougher, you can practically keep a rogue from Act I through to Act 5. I found hirelings very useful. My favorite so far are the mages from Act 3, though the Barbarians in Act 5 are pretty tough themselves.

There were numerous other changes. New magical properties, hora dric cube recipes, I can go on and on.

The five above are the ones that really stood out the most to me and in which I noticed an immediate effect on gameplay and stragedy when I played through the first time.

My only gripe is I wanted more on the final cinematic after you kill Baal. It was fine, but I wanted it to show more.

If you liked the Diablo II "classic," you WILL thoroughly enjoy the expansion. It greatly improves upon and adds more of what you'd expect from the original D2.

Review: This is the sweetest thing besides the Diablo 2. Killer graphics, new spells and skills, new weapons. If you own Diablo 2 you need this. if you dont have Diablo 2 buy it.

Summary: More good old Diablo hack and slash.
Review: I'm sorry, but as usual, Diablo has fallen far short of the title "rpg". Great new ways to kill monsters are all well and good, but every one of the diablo games has fallen short as far as plot, character interaction, and freedom of action. I guess most of the people who buy it go into it knowing this and not carrying, but please people, stop referring to it as an rpg? This game really should be under the title "action" or "adventure" or the like. Just because your character goes up levels and gets more powerful, or goes on quests npcs give you, doesn't make this a good role-playing game, and for any rare person out there who still hasn't played this game: it's not a good role-playing game. Now, all that said, it does have a wide variety of special powers, many of which are quite impressive, and the added characters of the expansion increase the replay value even more. It's great for endless hours of monster slaying and mangling, but if you're looking for quality rpg, you'll probably be as disappointed as I was.

Summary: The Little Things Mean So Much
Review: A lot of folks have talked about the new classes and new Act. However, some of the smaller enhancements are pretty cool. I didn't really appreciate them until I started playing with them.

Repair All - A nice touch. When you visit a blacksmith, there is now a button to repair all items that you have equipped. This isn't a big deal for spell casters, but fighters will love it. It takes what usually is 4 or 5 clicks and makes it one. It doesn't repair anything in your inventory; they have to be repaired individually.

Weapon Swapping - Again, this one is mostly for the fighters. It allows you to equip two different sets of items in your left and right hand - i.e., a sword and shield in one set and a two handed axe in the other. You can switch between the sets by pressing the "W" key on the keyboard. I have a Javazon that I equipped with a spear in her second set. When she wants to throw things, she has javelins and a shield; if she wants to do huge melee damage, I press "W" and she switches to her spear. There are quite a few possiblities here - a Bowazon alternating between crossbow and long bow - switching between a mace for the undead vs. a sword for other creatures - switching between weapon and shield vs. throwing potions.

Throwing Weapons - Two things: There are now Magic Throwing Weapons - Javazons take heart. Also, you can "re-load" on a throwing weapon by repairing it. So if you find that set of Superior Javelins or Superior Balanced Axes - you don't have to worry about "throwing them away". Just head back to town BEFORE you run out of them and repair them.

Long-Term Hirelings - Hirelings were pretty cool in the basic Diablo II, however, they died once you got pretty far into an Act. Now, you can heal and equip hirelings. You can heal a hireling by giving him/her one of your healing potions. Also, if you find armor, helmets, shields or weapons, you can give them to your hireling and he/she enjoys the full benefits of using it. The hirelings also level up like regular characters and will follow you from Act to Act.

These enhancements don't unbalance the game (at least they didn't seem to as I played through the first two quests). But they do give you some new strategies for playing the game. I'm looking forward to many hours of play with the expansion pack.

Summary: Great expansion to a great game, but...
Review: I have played through it now and I really enjoy playing it. D2 itself was a great game. The only reason that I am not giving it 4 or 5 stars is because it is GROSSLY overpriced. 40 bucks for an expansion of 1 act? As much as I enjoy it, if it had not been a gift to me, I never would have bought it. I understand the new character classes, items, etc., but come on.

Summary: D2:Lod Rvw
Review: i havent played this yet but from what ive heard it sounds fun and the new classes and items and such will more than likely be a big hit with all the gamers out there. Also, the new socket items(jewels and runes) will add another mysterious element as players try to find out th full secrets of them.
