Summary: Astonishing journey to a fantasy world
Review: Riven is a worthy followup to Myst and still must rate as one of the alltime great adventure games.

Those familiar with the Myst series will know some of what to expect: lush visuals (although in static form, no 360 rendering), a detailed storyline, fiendishly clever puzzles, much mysterious machinery, and a need to respond to and interact with the environment in order to solve the game.

There are some important differences to the Myst series. First of all, rather than exploring a number of different worlds, or 'ages', in Riven you explore one (albeit large) world, comprised of five islands. There are links to two other 'ages' but these are very sketchily developed and there is not much to explore here. There are some differences between the islands, but the radically different tones of the ages in Myst or Myst III is missing.

This has its advantages and disadvantages. The world you explore is much larger, and you can progress over virtually the whole world without needing to solve many puzzles, allowing even a casual player a good glimpse at the world of Riven.

However, it also means that the puzzles are less contained and linear than in the other Myst games. As well as a number of smaller puzzles, there are two major puzzles to be solved, clues for which are scattered throughout the islands. Even with the smaller puzzles, the control to open a vital door might be located a long distance away, or only accessible via a very circuitous route. This can add another degree of complexity to the puzzles. Having said that, there is a degree of logic to most of the controls which are based on the culture and lifestyle of the inhabitants of Riven. The puzzles generally also operate in a logical manner and relate well to the entire environment of the game.

There is little action for the punch-em-up enthusiasts - but they're unlikely to be reading the review anyway.

In summary, a fantastic game that will engross you for hours - I just wish more alternative ages could have been included.

Summary: Got some time?
Review: While it surpasses Myst is oh say ALL areas you better be a either really smart or bored to figure it all out. However if you need a spoiler there are many to be found on-line. Anyway, lots of islands rather than ages is nice for because as you explore it's neat to see how it is all tied togather. Dont worry, the scenery is quite varied so it wont get monotonous.

Summary: Four thumbs up! (I had two hands attached)
Review: This game is great! It's not as good as Myst, but it's still impressive. This games backs right up to Myst, so if you hann't played Myst, you will have NO idea on whats going on! Somthing thats better the Myst, the grapics. I don't know how good they are on PC because I've got the playstation virsion, but the graphics on that are awsome! My opinion on buying it or renting it is you should buy it if you've played and BEATEN Myst. But Bloskbuster donen't carry this game.

Summary: Couldn't End This Game Fast Enough
Review: Doesn't work on XP. Works great in Me. The Islands are beautiful and it was fun to explore them. They are so complex, so many different secret places to find and things to discover, but the hints you need to get the book to capture Gehnn, are so complex I had difficulty figuring things out even with the universal hint system. (Doesn't sound possible does it, it is!) With the set of hints, it took me three weeks of daily play to complete the game and I was so frustrated because I couldn't do it without the hints, I just wanted the game to end. The island system of pipes and steam and animal signs and colored symbols do not follow the laws of common sense. This is a foreign world with a hidden tribe, who you never really meet other than a couple people. They do not speak English and you have to figure out their number system to get combinations to key components of the game. The storyline was difficult to follow and in the end I really didn't even care that Catherine and Atrus were reunited. There were lots of things in the game that never worked, so I spent lots of time trying to solve puzzles which I could never get to do anything and never added to the game play. You can't really do much, other than get into secret passages, until you find and stop all the balls from spinning. Good luck getting to this point. Even capturing Gehnn was no fun, you end up doing it accidentally, sort of, with no sense of accomplishment. Do not save your game once you get to the 233rd whatever place, u must perform certain tasks correctly or the game ends and believe me, you don't want to have to redo a million tedious things to get back into game play. I did play Myst and loved it. I only needed a couple of hints to complete the game. Riven is light years beyond the gameplay in Myst. If Myst frustrated you, I don't not recommend Riven. If you love being tortured, I highly recommend it. I will not purchase Exile based on my experience with Riven. But, hey, who knows, you may love it!

Summary: Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: This game has the best graphics the world has ever seen!!!
The captivating story is presented in the astonishing cut scenes is like watching a movie!!!
The realism of this game is creepy (don't play this game in the dark.) But before you rush out with your credit card in hand, not a couple of things: this game is truly a puzzle solving logic game and does not fit the action genre, and also this game is not a look or go where ever you want game it is jumble of scenes controlled by clicking the mouse to go or look where you want to (as is myst) This game is for an aquired taste and requires a ton of patience, but once you get the feel of this masterwork you will be absolutly hooked on. I guaruntee it.
Ubi soft has done it again. Awesome!

Summary: really, really great!!!
Review: I really love this game. Next to Myst III: Exile, it is one of my favorites. The graphics are simply amazing! The downside: if you don't have a strategy guide, you're doomed. I mean really and truly DOOMED. However, I HIGHLY reccomend this game. The graphics deserve an enthusiastic WOW.

Summary: VERY VERY challenging...and fun, too!
Review: If you think you are smart enough to finish every computer game in the world in a few days, think again.
Riven is THE hardest computer game I have ever played. I know someone who got this game and it took him six months to finish it! I myself have not finished it yet.
If you get this game(I strongly recommend that you should), you have got to turn off the lights, turn up the sound, and you'll step into the strange world of Riven. It's really cool.
This game requires tons of brainwork. If you don't think hard, you'll never finish the game.
So, I think you should get this game. The story is great, the graphics are great, hey, EVERYTHING is great!!!

Summary: Quite Simply the Best
