Rating: Summary: Too complex, too difficult to master, too frustrating. Review: Yes, the graphics are good. Yes, the gameplay is smooth. Overall I like the concept. But unless you have 30 hours per week to devote to mastering this game, you will find it a tooth-grinding experience. Unless you are a hard-core gamer, and have no other life whatsoever, I do not recommend this game. The time investment to payoff ratio is just too steep.
Rating: Summary: Best RTS, if not best computer game ever made Review: I must say, I am surprised I didn¡¦t write this review alot sooner than I am now. Although a game of this magnitude does require some serious playing before you can judge it. Let me open by saying that this game has almost no flaws. Its incredible graphics system allows you to take different views of your units, and gives a more realistic feel to everything going on. Another great touch is something RTS games have lacked, Heroes who actually gain levels. This adds a whole new strategy to the game and makes you think more about how you will play, (depending on the skills your have your hero learn). The only frustrating thing, is that if there are two of the same type of hero, at level 10(highest lvl) they will be identical (aside from their items) leaving less room for long term decisions. As for the races, no game has ever seen the amazing balance and complexity of each race. For a little while you may favor one race (and may always), but i've found that after playing for hundreds of hours, the races are brilliantly balanced. In addition, the campaigns are well designed and have an engrossing storyline. This all may seem all fine at first, but the true re-playability of this game comes from online play on battle. Net. It uses a system of levels to match you up with players of appropriate skill for you, and you can chose between random team, from 4-8 players. 1 vs1, free-for-all. Or arranged team, where you choose your teammates and go up against another formed team. Out of everything and after playing for hours, you will realize, This is truly a masterpiece in gaming
Rating: Summary: A Must have for RTS fans Review: Without a doubt the most well designed game I have yet played. It is NOT a sequel to Starcraft, and it is NOT an AoE rip-off either. It is the most original RTS game out there, as it adds in a role playing flavor with the advent of Heroes, special characters each of the races have. Many people claim that the heroes are unbalanced because they are so much better than normal characters, but that is a stupid statement. They are very powerful, but everyone has 3 of them, and they balance each other, being the same costs/availability. They each have their roles, and the ways they interact with their allies and opponents is a large part of the game. All in all I think the game is a sophisticated chess match, and like chess takes many hours to master, so don't buy this game if you are short on time. The game play is incredible for two reasons. The first is the Artificial Intelligence, which is amazing. Not so much as your computer opponents AI when you play the single player games, that AI is weak. But the AI that controls your troops in battle, responds to your commands, etc. is probably the best I have ever seen. The ability to put spells on auto-cast (and the effectiveness of the AI at deploying them) is amazing. The way troops react is so realistic it is unparalleled. You really spend most of your micro-management on the heroes (you usually have 2 at a time, which makes the game just micro-intensive enough to be hard, but not so much as too make it frustrating. It seems like other games have either little micro needed or too much, but this game finds a happy median. The second thing that sets this game apart is the 4 races. Some people complain that other games have more. But in those other games, they are usually all too similar, they are just the same groups and have mostly the same stuff, but some of their stuff is stronger than other factions and some weaker (maybe their air attack is strong but their troops weak). This usually makes only one or two factions dominant, as one aspect tends to be overpowering. No such thing in WarCraft 3. Granted, each faction has similarities. But the differences are much greater, and so well balanced that you see each faction represented among top players almost equally. Any race can truly beat any race. The graphics are sweet. Even on medium, which I have them on, they look excellent. The simple fact of RTS games is that graphics aren't that important anyway. True, you like to be able to distinguish your units, but for the most part it's kind of like chess, who cares what they look like; you only care what they do. But don't get me wrong, the graphics on this game are incredible, I've ran them with a GeForce4 TI 4200 128 mb on high everything it was very impressive. It just isn't a big deal to me in an RTS.
Rating: Summary: A truly great game Review: Amazon.con sent me this classic in 4 days! I was amazed. Anyways, I played it for a few days, and then it crashed. Probably my fault, so I just ordered a new computer from them. That aside, the game is well-done, altho a little demanding on your system. I met the minimum requirements (barely), but I would strongly suggest at least 256MB of memory (I had 128), and 64MB of graphics memory (I had 32). Processor speed is un-important (My 1.2GHz was plenty). Having said that, this game is great for both Warcraft novices and old pros alike. I played Warcraft, Warcraft II, and now III. This one doesn't disappoint. Just remember to get DirectX 8.1 in there first (I did, but still got whacked by my 3 year old system).
Rating: Summary: ASWOME Review: I am a big fan of the stuff that blizzard puts out.... This was no exception. It was perfect. If you have ever played Starcraft or Warcraft 2 you WILL LOVE this game. Also if you like starategy games in general you will like it. This is nothing special but it is DEFENITALLY WORTH YOU $$$$$$ AND YOU TIME!!!!! Give er a try who knows you might just fall in love all over again!
Rating: Summary: WCIII redefines strategy games Review: This game is the best RTS game I have EVER played. Those of you who are uneasy about buying it due to WarCraft II, don't be. WarCraft III is nothing like WarCraft II. The entire system was redefined, enhanced, then redefined again. The gameplay is similar to WarCraft II and StarCraft, but in many ways is much superior. 1)The addition of RPG-like elements such as Heros makes the game much more challenging. You can have a giant army and no hero and still lose against someone who has a smaller army and a lvl 10 hero. 2)The races are VERY evenly balanced. EVERYTHING has an effective counter, the trick is to building the units required to counter faster than the other guy can tear apart your base. 3)Enhanced AI doesn't simply send enemies at you at programed intervals anymore like starcraft. Instead, it usually effectively counters your attack, again making the game much more interesting. 4)A small food limit seems like a bad thing, but it actually forces you to strategize instead of building a ton of guys. There is no such thing as an overwhelming force if you have the right units and can micro-manage efficiently. 5)The graphics and sound have been greatly improved. (and yes the units still say funny things if you click on them enough) 6)A completely different battle.net makes it much easier to play games. Instead of always playing with people who are 10x better or worse than you, you gain levels. Battle.net automatically pairs you with people of your own skill level based on your current level (which is based on your win/loss ratio). Its long and complicated to explain, and is not fool proof, but works quite well. The only downside to this game is its steep requirements for your PC. You will want to stay quite a bit above the minimum specs to get the most out of your gameplay, but I think its about time that games are being made for faster and better equipped PCs. BEWARE: if you are really into the starcraft and warcraft series, don't make the same mistake I did. Buy the collectors edition instead of this version as it comes with a cinematic DVD and a soundtrack CD.
Rating: Summary: Reign of Chaos Rules! Review: This is a great game. You can cast all sorts of spells, including death spells, or lightning spells. This a great game for 2 or more people, because the multiplayer setting is cool. I reccomend it for Dungeons and Dragons fans.
Rating: Summary: Ok game Review: Ok since everyone has stated many good aspects of this game, I will state my opions about some of the dissatisfied aspects: 1.Unlike Starcraft series, Warcraft iii does not have many defensive units. A single player cannot against an early rush. As a result, a)have your allies come to help you b)build many defence towers c)base gets destroyed and player leaves game. Many experienced players will choose a) since it will preserve ally forces and weaken the enemies.(also, the next rush will probably be taken the same place, so some preparations can be made). Players who choose b) are always trying to protect themselves(or make sure they are the last to die) but ignore the objective of winning the whole game. They will be lucky to have some experienced players along with them to win the game against some newbies. However, there will be ineffiecient military forces against the experienced since it is n v.s n-1. If there are no a) and b), players will usually end up in c), no help from allies nor have defence buildings against an early rush, which many have complained about. 2.There are many unbalanced (maybe just for me) aspects as well: a)There are apparently more gold from Night Elves than any other races I've chosen since Night Evles uses only five wisps to mine gold and the units cost much less. b)The most unbalanced units are sorceress and tanks from Humans: i)Sorceress'polymorph can turn most of the units into sheep, and the only spell I know of to counter it is Dispel Magic(it is not autocast!!! and not many human players produce enough priests against it) With the help of some melee units from allies, two dozen sorceress can wipe out most of the enemies(no matter what furious beasts you have, they will be just turned into sheep and slaughtered.) Adjustment:the timer for polymorph should be decreased from 60secs to 30-45secs. ii)It is actully more effective to have tanks accompanied with melee forces in a map where bases are surrounded less trees. For example, one time I was playing a 4vs4 game, and we had about the same forces. When the enemies entered one of my allies' base, we teleported there and destroyed most of them with melee units and my two dozen sorceress except the twelve tanks left unharmed. They continued to destroy the remaining buildings and entered and destroyed mine so on.. We were jaw dropping seeing most of our buildings destroyed even though those tanks were casted "slow"(the official guide against tanks) and attacked by melee troops(kinghts, huntress ect) After more tanks and melee troops were sent, we lost the game! (altough we tried to struggle by sending all our units to rush one of the bases, we have no barracks ect.and no reinforcements thus unsuccessful) Adjustment:tanks have really thick armors and high hp, either one of these has to be decreased to balance the game. The other effective counters are raiders and frost wyrms, but many will replace raiders with grunts combined with shamen or taurens and have not enough frost wyrms(they might be turned into sheep) against tanks. 3.There are many unnecessary units in Warcraft iii such as the kodo beast(never see one in a game), druid of the talon(sux both at ground and air but require second upgrade, can be replaced by others), meat wagon(used primarily to destroy trees and not effective), gyrocopter(usually destroyed by creeps) and mortar team(costs as much as a tank but does not have the ability to attack air, just to hear the slogan they yell to produce them). I'd give this game a 3.5-3.8 stars since there are not many new units for both humans and orcs, and the above statements.
Rating: Summary: How can anyone say something bad? Review: All of the bad reviews said that the single player campaigns were really bad, but to me, they are probablyt he best single player campaigns I've every played!!! Multiplayer is great too! With an excellent rating and matching system!!! A great game for anyone interested!
Rating: Summary: Campaign is fun, all the rest is boring!! Don't get it!!!! Review: Don't get me wrong on this game, it's pretty fun at the beginning when you are playing the campaign and the story is well laid out. This is Warcraft III reign of Chaos and they are making Warcraft III Frozen Throne right now. The graphics are good but you need a fast computer. I have multiple computers and tried using it on my 128 MB SDRAM and it slowed down when I had about 10 units. I used it on my 512 RAM computer and it runs smoothly no matter what. Pay attention to the system requirments. One hint is if you get this game, you can zoom in and zoom out while in gameplay and some people don't know that. The scrolling button on your mouse controls that function and 2 more buttons do on the keyboard but you go figure them. On battle.net which you can play people all over the world for free, it's kind of cool except the text. The font is SO SMALL, you can hardly see anything. I recommend you stick with Starcraft and Starcraft Broodwar. The graphics might not be better but battle.net rules on there. It might be an old game but A LOT of people still play it so please don't get this ... game and you can count on me when I say that!
