Rating: Summary: Looks and sounds great: so where's the "strategy"? Review: Warcraft 3 is usually called a real-time strategy game with some RPG elements. I found that the game combines a lot of elements, but in a mediocre way. The strategy in the game ends up being kind of simple and shallow, and so do the RPG aspects. It?s hard to not recommend this game though, since it is still fun to play, thanks in large part to all of the eye candy. Still, I couldn?t help but be slightly disappointed in the game that I heard so many great things about.Make no mistake about it. This game looks and sounds awesome. Each map is beautiful to look at and sports all sorts of bright colors and features. The various units in the game are animated brilliantly and in stunning detail. No two look alike, and that is saying a lot. Watching your groups move across the screen is, by itself, a treat. The human Gyrocopter spins and buzzes around, the undead Abomination slowly lumbers, and mounted warriors gallop with their horses. Buildings share the same attention to detail. The real experience, however, comes when there is a battle. Watching the units bash on each other while spells spray fire and lightning back and forth is a delight. The great sound has a lot to do with this. All of the bashing and crushing sounds and explosions give you the feeling that there is World War 3 in your living room. The game?s voice samples range from chilling (for the undead Banshee) to very amusing (for the orc Peon), but they are all great. The single-player campaign leaves a lot to be desired when you get past the production values though. The campaign crosses all four of the game?s races and takes you through a bunch of small missions that last about 40 minutes, on average. I like the heroes being the centerpiece in the game, but you get no freedom in choosing them, and not much freedom in developing them. When you advance a level, you upgrade one special ability. Each hero has only three or four special abilities or spells to choose from. There isn?t much thinking or planning for you to do. The whole concept of gaining levels in the game seems kind of pointless. So do all of the aspects that spoil the game?s strategy, like the way that your army, resources, and advancements disappear when you begin each short scenario. You start off on a map, build all of the available upgrades, and then go complete your objective in about 35 minutes. Then, you go to the next map, and you have to ?research? all of your advancements again and repeat the process. The addictiveness that you get from gradually becoming more powerful isn?t there. It just doesn?t seems like there is much to do in this game. You build up your ?army?, which is more like a platoon since it is limited to a small size, and then direct it to a spot on the map. I found it impossible to get wrapped up in this game, since the usual strategy game flow is nonexistent. The size of the game makes it more like a tactics game (ala ?Commandos? or ?Freedom Force?), but the inability to slow or pause the game limits how much you can micromanage your units in battle. So, what you end up with in the end, is a combination of strategy, tactics, and role-playing that is simple and shallow in all of them. That is why I never felt compelled to play this game for more than an hour or so before playing something else. I would give this game 3 stars, but ?Warcraft 3? is a quality title, and at the very least, you should try out the demo. But in the end, I don?t think that this game is worthy of all of the accolades being heaped upon it.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: By far the best RTS game out there. The graphics are beautiful, the gameplay is unfathomably awesome, and the storyline will blow you away. Get this game. Now.
Rating: Summary: the basic truth Review: Warcraft 3 is basically the best of the warcraft series but any idiot could tell you that. When I first started gaming to me everything was about the graphics. Then, sometime last fall while I was playing a game with high graphics, I realized that the game itself was not of good quality. This realization led me to the theory that games should be about the storyline, the graphics, and in stratagy games like this a great way to kick...well you know what I mean. Warcraft 3 has all of these components, in fact, what I liked best about this game is the campaign mode. The heroes in the campiagn like Tyranda Whisperwind and Thrall, son of Duratan each have both awesome attacks and stories in the game so it is real easy to imagine myself right beside the Ork grunts in the thick of the battle the only flaw in the game if it is a flaw is that at the end of the game they left it almost unfinished. Other than that the multiple levels, story line, creeps and items make the game suprisingly... well, awesome.
Rating: Summary: a different, yet thoroughly enjoyable experience Review: WCIII takes some elements from its predecessors and adds new levels of strategies, the Hero concept being paramount. Certainly there are many players who were experts at the simple "mass production skills" developed in the earlier Blizzard titles, especially Starcraft, who will find this game less enjoyable as it plays away from their skills. Simple answer to their gripes: learn new skills. WCIII is more strategy based. This is evident in the fact that units cannot simply be thrown onto enemy defenses until they (the defenses) become overwhelmed. The attacking units need to be controlled at all times for maximum efficiency because 1)there is a low production ceiling and 2) a relatively high cost for high-level units. The game isn't hard to play, but it is difficult to master. The range of playing styles available ensures a different experience from each opponent. Finding an effective strategy that best fits is a challenge. It's not a perfect game, but it is definitely worthwhile.
Rating: Summary: Mixed Bag Review: I'd like to start off that Blizzard has made an awesome game. Unfortunately like all games Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos has flaws. One good factor of this game is its 3d graphics. The 3d graphics in this game make the gameplay enjoyable and they support Blizzards awesome cinematics. Another good factor was its cinematics which were in 3d. The three heroes (for each race) in the game also made the gameplay enjoyable because you controlled these powerful beings and if dead they could be summoned back. Another plus point was battle.net. It's a great way to play with others for FREE!!! Finally the last good factor to this game that I noticed was the storyline. The storyline was spectacular backed up with the 3d cinematics. One thing that seemed flawed to me was that everytime I'd play a custom game my computer would freeze. Being a new computer 2.2 ghz., 256mb I couldn't see why my computer would freeze even if my computer was much higher than the requirement. Another bad factor was that the campaign was more like an rpg and not a strategy game. I knew that this was a mix of rpg and rts but I didn't know that it would be so different from the other warcraft games. Finally the last flaw I noticed was that the max. population of 90 people, which is merely enough to produce a sufficient army. Overall: OKAY game, there are other games out there such as WARLORDS BATTLECRY 2 and EMPIRE EARTH ~Vaib~
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully Planned Review: Warcraft 3 is about defeating the enemy. You can play up to 6 adventures . This game has me puzzled. I think the animation is great. You should have up to the recommended requirements or higher for greater performence. I dont think this should be recommended for children under the age of 10 due to the animated violence and Some mild language. If you love puzzling features , war battles, and mutant heros then i remcommend this game for you.
Rating: Summary: Warcraft III Review: Being a huge (and I mean huge) fan of the first 2 Warcrafts (especially because it's comparable to the 'board game' Warhammer). The charm of the first two Warcrafts also was their accessibility and fantasy charm (which included every mythological creature from orcs, trolls, and ogres to dwarves, elves, and gnomes, not to mention gryphons, daemons and dragons :D). This tradition of traditional fantasy is continued in Warcraft III. The only qualm I had about this game was there was really nothing new as far as gameplay. The story was great and the characters were likable, so on that level the game succeeded. Warcraft was never one for incredible graphics, but the graphics were never (and aren't) bad at all. The view could've been zoomed out a little more on this one, but it doesn't ruin the game. The music and sounds are the technical highlights of this game, as well as the amazing (!) cinematics. Playing online is very fun and the fact that Blizzard.Net is free makes is even more fun :D, but the highlight of this game is it's single-player (as it's always been). So I was a bit disappointed, but not by much, this could've been a whole lot worse, but I would've liked to see something new.
Rating: Summary: 5 Stars, if you have the proper computer. Review: Due to the large range of units featured in this game, the majority of computers that are released can't maintain the process of running this game. Where it may take 20 seconds to focus on one thing, for someone with a high performance computer, it's hardly a second. Get this game as your risk. Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is the follow-up of the two previous Warcraft games. This game is a strategic game, as stated in another review, this is NOT for the stupid. There are four different main races featured in this game - Orcs, Night Elves, Humans, and the Undead. Each race has its own special qualities, so play each one to see which one you highly favor. This game is in 3D and makes it a bit hard to distinguish your characters from enemy and ally characters. The challenge of gaming against other over the internet is hard to ignore. You can game with others and compare and study how other people use their tactics in order for you to become a very skilled player. I have an iMac which was purchased a few years ago (not before 2000), and it has a horrible time processing information on this game. Even for some of the most high performance computers, this game can becoming very agrivating due to its time to process any information. This rating is based on the type of computer you have. If your computer has a hard time even processing information from even the simplest of games, DO NOT buy this game.
Rating: Summary: John Review: Ok game but hard to get use to. I uninstalled it after about 5 times trying to understand how to play. My son loved it, Good kid game but for an adult i would go for something else.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Game Review: Blizzard took the multiple species format of Starcraft, and improved upon it in Warcraft III. With four races to choose from, and each one well balanced against the others games can last for hours and hours. The campaigns are brilliant and challenging enough to be fun, but not so hard you have to try 15 times before you get it. Tons of side quests you can take, each one usually giving your hero a power-up item. Oh, heroes, one of the best parts of Warcraft III. Each race has three, usually one Warrior, one Clever, and one Magician. These heroes can learn skills as they level, and some can become extremely powerful (namely the Demonhunter, Demon form is awesome). Warcraft III also has a new way to use units, no longer do you use four or five groups of medium units to overwhelm your opponent (Starcraft) but instead you can use a smaller force because each unit has at least 150 hp, and enemy attacks usually range around 20 - 30. It was fun to develop new strategies using the new units as opposed to the older ones. This game is another must have for RTS fanatics like me.
