Summary: A Game That Will Be Talked About For Years To Come
Review: When I purchased this game, I did not expect much. The demo didn't hold much for me, and I didn't find the presence of blood in the game comforting. When I got thet game though, those fears went away. Loaded with hours of replay value and a huge variety of ways to play, this game is certainly well worth the... price tag.

As far as single player is concerned, it has six episodes consisting of a minimum of 10 levels, about twenty total levels for each of the three races: Terran, Protoss, and Zerg. Each possesses unique abilities and disabilities, a uniqueness that is demonstrated in the missions Blizzard designed for the game. Objectives range from destroying power plants to ravaging Warp Portals to killing the collective mind of the Zerg. Certain levels have multiple outcomes, meaning that you might want to go back in order to beat it all. Besides that, unlike other games, Starcraft makes it very simple to replay old missions, and the AI makes it interesting every time.

As far as multi-player goes, it's incredible! Ranging from a 1 Human vs. 7 Computers to any number of combinations via the Internet and Battle.net or modem, a multi-player game is never the same twice. Starcraft comes with a number of multi-player maps already programmed and ready to go for yourself and computers, or friends and computers.

But if none of those map suit you fancy, there's always the Map Editor. This is my personal favorite option. You can literally create a map, doing everything that the programmers could do, except for the cinematic sequences. The triggers in the Map Editor allow you to make guns pop out of the floor, open doors, bring in reinforcements, kill units that go to a certain area, or start a team(s) with buildings or units. The options are limitless, the only thing stopping you in making the scenarios is the number of hours in the day.

The only downside I found in the game, as I already mentioned, is the presence of a minor amount of blood when Zerg units are killed. But the amount is so nominal, and the playability is so incredible, that THIS GAME IS A MUST-HAVE!

Summary: ..and I don't hand out 5 stars lightly.
Review: If, by chance, you're reading this and you've never played Starcraft before, just go ahead and skip reading this and buy it. You won't be disappointed.

If you're thinking about buying it for someone else, go ahead and buy it: I've given three Battle Chests as gifts and it was a hit every time for both kids and adults, even to those who hadn't played this kind of game before.

The Battle Chest is definitely the way to go, as you'll save money over buying it and Brood War separately and get the strat guides for free (and, to be honest, I don't think the guides are worth having unless you're completely clueless about how to beat the game, and there is information in the strat guides that is blatantly wrong as well).

I've been playing RTS games since 1997, and in my opinion, this is the best one ever made. No one has made one that's as fun, has as gripping a storyline and artwork, or depth and replayability of gameplay. It's a work of genius. I've had it for two years and I still play it at least a couple of times a week. There's even one mission left that I haven't managed to conquer without cheating, so the challenge is definitely there.

What you have to understand about Starcraft is that it's not meant to be a cutting-edge feature-heavy supergame where you can customize the behavior of your units and give them complex orders. It's meant to be more of a strategy game like real-time chess, and in this it succeeds brilliantly. It shares the quality of chess in that there are a limited number of units with straightforward abilities, but there are an infinite number of things and strategies that you can do with them. To this day players are still inventing new strategies for these units and races.

The artificial intelligence and pathfinding of the game is the best I've ever seen. No RTS game has perfect AI or pathfinding (units getting lost or tangled up on each other or the terrain), but Starcraft's is by far better than any others out there. The computer will flatten you time and again unless you're playing competently.

Multiplayer is a complete blast, and more options are offered than any other RTS game. You can play team games where you and your allies are actually controlling the same units against the computer or others, in addition to a wide range of variations like Capture the Flag, etc.

Blizzard's Battle.net service is free and at any time of day there are literally thousands of people playing. Internet play is smooth. I've played friends both nationally and internationally with bad connections and low-end computers, and it runs solidly even with the additional traffic of voice chat like Roger Wilco over 56k!

Blizzard's continuing support for the game is also excellent. They release a new map for the game every Friday like clockwork, so there are over a hundred new, well-designed maps available for download and replay.

In summary, just a solid, solid, completely fun game. You can't possibly go wrong by picking up a copy.

Summary: Fun but a bit outdated.
Review: This game is extremely long, challenging, and fun... but its a bit old.
The graphics and animation are just plain old ugly.

The 3 races in the game are well balanced and pretty interesting though.

This game might have been great 4 years ago but for now Warcraft 3, also made by Blizzard, is the far superior game.

Summary: One of the most addictive games ever made
Review: I'm a pretty big video game fan. I usually get the hit games kind of late because I won't pay full price for them, but Starcraft is worth every penny I've spent. This game is the most addictive game I've ever played. There are so many things that make this game great and there are really no serious knocks that can be thrown at it.

The story line to Starcraft is pretty simple. You can pick from three different races Terran, Zerg, and Protoss. In the stroyline they all have different goals they want to achieve. The terrans are the humans in the game. They have there pros and cons. They have medium range units that are pretty cheap to build and are all around pretty effective. The Zerg are the buglike species. They have cheap and quick units. The protoss are the alien species of the group. They have expensive but very powerful units.

Single player mode is pretty fun. The missions aren't really all that bad. The story is decent and I enjoyed playing it all the way through. The gem to this game is the multiplayer options.

If you get this game you definetly want to get on the internet and play on Battlenet. Thats what makes the game so addictive. It's a great game, but it gets even better when you can sign on and play against millions of other players. You can also get a hold of crazy maps on battlenet which add new and fun life to the game. We have a 20 port hub at home and this is are favorite multiplayer game to play. Like the guy in the review before me said, you really need to watch the clock when you get on battlenet because you will lose track of time. I will get so into this game, I'll stop for food and the bathroom. The rest of the time you are so engrossed in this awesome game.

This is one of the best games I've ever played. I have no real flaws with the game that are even worth bringing up. If you want a fun game to play then pick this one up and enjoy.

Summary: Brilliant
Review: Starcraft is one of my favorite games of all time. If you have ever played Warcraft or Diablo, you will love this. Even if you haven't, you'll still sit at the computer for hours playing Starcraft. Now, it's so cheap you MUST get it! This Battle Chest comes with the orriginal game, the expansion pack, and Prima's strategy guides for both! This is an awesome and challenging single player experience, and an even better multiplayer game. I'll tell you some of the background and why you have to buy this game.

First, the single player is great and hard. There are three races in this game: The Terran (humans), the Zerg (mutated alien things), and the Protoss (high tech aliens). You start out playing as the Terrans, then the Zerg, then Protoss. In the expansion pack you first play as Protoss, then Terran, then Zerg. The single player is a long experience, and when you don't want a mission, you can just play a skirmish game against the computer. Then, you can play online (no fee required) on Battlenet. This is where Starcraft really shines. It's great playing with 7 other unpredictable humans. You can just play a normal game, or you can play fun games that have ironic twists. Getting online is easy and free.

Now, it's really cheap, and you have to buy it. Now!

Summary: Be careful... This game is like drug... Very addictive...
Review: I bought this game in 1997. In 1998, I bought broodwar expansion. At that time, I've played at least 6 hours everyday no matter what happens.... I was highly addicted and this was ruining my life. In 1999, I broke starcraft CD swearing that I would never play this again. After final examination, however, i was so high that I loosened and bought this game again... After that incident, I played for 2 years...In 2001, I broke CD again because I had to prepare for very important examination. You know what happend? Only after 2 weeks, I couldn't help but buy this game again... This time, i made a pact to myself. I would play just for 2 hours a day. Ever since, I was able to keep up with my promise. I passed exam also!
I heard that Blizzard is working on Starcraft 2. You know what? After what I've gone through, I'm willing to pay up to $ 500 to purchase Starcraft 2. I would even consider spending a grand. This game is simply the best game ever produced in the world. FYI, I've played thousands of games throughout my life. I've played FFX, MGS2, pokemon games of Nintendo, etc. Nothing may dare to compare to this game even in the single player capacity.
If you go online, you would meet hundreds of thousands of opponents that will surprise you with tons of strategies developed for over past 6 years. I bet you would need at least 3 months long 5 hours a day practice to compete in the battle.net. If you do not dare to have that amount of commitment, you may better go for other games.

Summary: Best RTS ever!!!
Review: StarCraft is the best real time strategy game ever. It has three UNIQUE races, so it doesn't feel like your doing the same thing on each one. There is absolutely NO limit to what kind of game you can make, because StarCraft includes a map maker. Even if you usually borrow games and copy, do us all a favor and quit piracy. StarCraft is well worth your money for the original and Brood War the expansion. Also, this is the most addicting game ever made! Be careful about how much time you allow yourself to play StarCraft...

Summary: STARCRAFT is FUN
Review: StarCraft is an excellent strategy war game with arcade action! If you like Command and Conquer and other build up your base and technology and attack the other guy type of games you will LOVE this game. Comes with stratagy guides for both games, StarCraft and StarCraft BroodWar which are great to look at and have good strategies and secrets of the game.

What I really like about is that the characters are LARGE enough to see well, but not so large that you can't have couple of hundred or so of them on screen battling it out. If you remember the original Command and Conquer, you needed a magnifying glass to view the little men characters. In StarCraft they are about a half an inch tall, or larger for tanks and other big units 2-3 inches!! NICE!! Plus all battles are real time with great sound effects, non-laster/missle weapons are just seen on impact hitting the target.

The story line is good too, it is fun to hear the characters argue with each other during the mission briefings. Don't forget to constantly click on a character in the game to hear some REALLY FUNNY responses (This commander is wacked!) and have fun interpreting the Zerg noise ones! And you can create your own senarios with the game editor included.

The Sequel BroodWar has more of the great stuff with 2 additional units for each species, one air and one ground. Whether you battle as the Mighty Terrians, the Technologically advanced Protoss, or the Overwhelming Zerg you will enjoy yourself in single or multi-player action! A classically FUN game!!

Summary: Starcraft, one of the all time greatest
Review: Starcraft was released in 1997. I bought it then and played it for 1 year. Then the expansion came out in 98 and i bought that one aswell. I still play this game to the day. This battle chest is well worth the $20. starcraft was the most bought, #1 game for 97 and 98 when they came out. The graphics are great and sound effects aswell. The story plot is well put together, and you can be three different races, zerg, protoss, and terran. Overall, this is a great game and there should be one in every home.
