Rating: 4 stars
Summary: World War II for the Mac
Review: A strategic-level game of World War II encompassing the entire globe is a dream come true for Mac users interested in the Second World War. Be warned, though -- this is not an action-packed shooter or a Risk-like abstraction. Instead you have to get a kick out of micro-managing economies, resources, technologies, and the movements of divisions and corps through and across continents. What keeps this game from being perfect (5 stars) within its genre is the cluttered user interface and maddeningly inadequate game manual. Between relying on trial-and-error and consulting fan websites you can eventually figure out all of the game's features and where to find important information, but a cleaner interface and more useful manual would be a great help in reducing the learning curve. Serious strategy gamers will like this one; casual gamers had best look elsewhere.

Summary: Hearts of Iron: The Best Global WWII Game to Date for Mac
Review: If the idea of managing your way through WWII sounds like a daunting task, let me assure you it is but one well-worth undertaking. From appointing government ministers to appointing Feild Marshalls and subordinates and directing scientific research to make the armies you build more lethal, you will experience a great deal more with this title than you ever will with any other title that I have played for Mac, and I am a pretty big WWII gaming fan. Be forewarned though, this game is not for the faint of heart and not without some problems, as mentioned in the previous review, but for the most part the game is a hugely absorbing undertaking, and a must for anyone who finds the subject matter interesting.
The game makers really did their homework on this one, and you will find yourself in command of many named historical units and leaders... and they will reflect the attributes of these famous units. Watch a war movie, hear a few historically accurate personalities or the units they lead and they will most likely be there.
for me, the pros far outweigh the cons, so I have to give this one a perfect rating, despite the too-breif manual. I found myself figuring out most of the stuff that the manual overlooked explaining so I really have to give this one a 4.5 out of 5. well worth the dough for an infinitely replayable title.
