Rating: Summary: THIS GAME IS ADDICTIVE! Review: In a word: Addictive. The story is really well developed. Nice, Clean interface. Quake-like action. A lot of stealthy sneaking around. Lots of people to talk to. Lots of fun - you'll want to follow it through from the end of the first mission. You won't want to stop. Don't believe me? Go try the demo. GREAT GAME!
Rating: Summary: no excuse Review: much has been written about the character of this game and is not necessary to repeat. however, once past the rather tedious training, this game grabs you and holds on so tightly that you neither eat nor sleep (it rivals diablo in this respect); the story and play are that good. i have played it four times in a year and a half, the last on realistic difficulty, and it never loses its appeal. i have gotten to experiment with all the skills and all the augs, and i pick up nuances each time. the mac edition was available almost simultaneously with the windows. since this is the best game ever for mac (maybe windows, too) there is no excuse for its not being at the top of the sales, even at this late date. note that NOLF still is, and DEx came out at the same time, and the latter is a better game. if you want to see DEx II for mac, better get all your mac friends to buy #1.
Rating: Summary: Through the LookingGlass Darkly Review: One does not play "Deus Ex"--one plays in the dark world of off-kilter chaos, oppression, and secrets. No one will have the same game experience as UNATCO agent J.C.Denton--one can play to take every enemy out--with extreme prejuidice--or one can play the way I play--combining stealth with sniper tacrics (and an occasional GEP rocket launched or LAM hurled for good measure.) Winding one's way through these graphics--from the sewers of Hell's Kitchen to the reflective floors of UNATCO HQ and VersaLife--will dazzzle one's eyes--feels like the silver age "Detective Comics" have come to life on my flat panel. The only game that will be better will be "Deus Ex 2"!

Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: Previous reviewers have done a fine job describing the game in detail so I'll just add my two cents: This was one of the best games I have ever played. And for the price, nothing comes close! Great graphics, great soundtrack, great cut scenes, lots of ways to play each level. And it never got boring.
Rating: Summary: Proof that gaming isn't just for bloodthirsty adolescents! Review: The media stereotype of any game in the RPG or FPS genre is that it's either just run-and-gun, rambo style, or worse, Satan worshipping. Gamers have known for a long time these are completely misguided stereotypes, and now finally, a game comes along with the potential to prove it to the world. Deus Ex is an RPG/FPS/Adventure Game, where you take on the role of a secret agent cyborg employed by the UN known as JC Denton. Possibly the most customizable character in any FPS, you can upgrade his "augs" (cyborg implants), earn experience points for his various skills (anything from computer hacking to healing to wielding very, very big guns), and, best of all, determine how characters in the game react to him based on his actions. If you "go Rambo" during the game, you can scavenge equipment off the corpses you leave behind, and everybody thinks you're a hero. If you sneak by everybody, however, you get more experience, but everybody (with the exception of your sometimes-pacifist older brother) thinks you're a big wuss. This game has a great story, with a really in-depth conspiracy behind it, and a kind of dystopian cyberpunk kind of Phillip K. Dick feel that you don't get in a lot of other Sci-Fi games. My only complaint is that AI. True story: I gunned a soldier down, and waited for the other one to come. He ran into the puddle of blood his comrade had made, and got . . . lost. No joke! He started running around in circles, wondering how he was going to escape this tiny little puddle of blood. Finally, I just eliminated him, before he figured out that he could just take two steps in any direction and be out of it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent.. but.. Review: This game is fantastic, don't get me wrong. I rushed out to CompUSA and bought myself a copy as soon as i heard it was released. However-- (i won't get into praising it because that would just be repeating what is known..) the AI is .. moderate.. voice acting is horrid... stereotypes of hong kong are ... racist.. technical issues with equipment (payload, damage, etc) are almost silly.. being that an assault rifle does 1/5th of a pistol per cartridge, map sizes make memory requirements rediculous, and make the game lag when viewing a city street.. but on the upshot, it's a freakin' great game.. very fun. just make sure you have 256MB of real RAM, a decent video card (voodoo2 at the least) and a G3 processor.
Rating: Summary: Not the usual first-person kill everything game Review: This game's plot is non-linear, which has been the catch-phrase of game manufacturers for the past several years. Considering this game came out in '98, it was probably one of, if not the, first games to actually make good on that promise. Deus Ex was 98's Game of the Year, and after playing it through 5 times, I'd categorize it in my top ten ever. The graphics aren't incredible (considered good in 98), but sufficient enough to help the plot of the game along. And what a plot it is. For you conspiracy fans, this will be right up your dark alley, especially if you've recently read "The Da Vinci Code". All the same world domination players are in this story. Well worth the time and money.
Rating: Summary: Great Game Review: This is gonna be one great game for Mac
Rating: Summary: My Favorite Game Review: This is my favorite video game. I've had it for a couple years now, and I can still go back and play it again. There's always something I missed before, something I didn't explore, a different approach to a problem. The only real issue I have with the game is that the plot gets really stupid about two thirds of the way through the game. The levels are all brilliantly designed and laid out. The missions are all fun and chalenging, except the very last level which suffers from sucktion. There is a lot of character interaction with poor at best voice acting. Still this is my favorite game.
